Gérard Sulon (Belgian international midfielder who played from the late-1950s to the early-1970s, mostly for RFC Liège).
Tahar Abouzid, known as Tahar or Taher or Abouzid or Abouzaid and with different combinations of first name and surname (Egyptian offensive midfielder, Al Ahly, Egypt team). Complete pamarès : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taher_Abouzaid
Please forgive any double-ups. I've read every page, but maybe haven't retained all of the info contained therein. I don't THINK these have been mentioned: Edgar Davids Soren Lerby Piet Keizer Laurent Blanc Gio van Bronckhorst Phillippe Cocu Ze Roberto Kily Gonzalez Gerson Mario Zagallo Rildo Zmarildo Pedrag Mijatovic Zinho Walter Samuel Nacka Skoglund Liam Brady Bixente Lizarazu Paolo Futre Omar Sivori Giovanni Francini Raul Gonzalez Jozef Chovanec Robert Jarni Paco Gento Srecko Katanec Again, apologies for any repeats. I'm not 100% about ALL of these, but I reckon they're all correct.
Some great names here. I don't think that Zico, Holzenbein, Francescoli or Netzer were left footed though - although I seem to remember Brian Glanville, no less, ascribing left footedness to both Zico and Netzer. They definitely both took free kicks with their rights though.
Rafa Marquez isn't a leftie. You missed off the all-time great Mexican leftie though: Hugo Sanchez! (I know he's already been mentioned elsewhere).
Alfred Pfaff (German international inside forward who played for Eintracht Frankfurt among other clubs from the mid-40s to early-60s)
There are a number of famous left-sided players who were right-footed, also Paul Breitner, Karl-Heinz Schnellinger, Paolo Maldini (not entirely sure), Franck Ribery and several others.
To help you out like you've done for others!: - Blanc no. - Mijatovic no unless I make a mistake and he was somehow two sided but predominantly left or something, but I'm thinking not. - Katanec I forget exactly but I think no, although he sometimes played left back I know. - I don't know about Chovanec (literally) but I assume you are correct having named him! - Amarildo (just a typo but I knew who you meant), yes I think so. - Skogland I assume yes unless he was one of those left-sided right-footed cases, but without checking again today I think from what I saw he did seem left footed primarily.
You're quite right, actually, about both Blanc and Mijatovic - definitely both righties. My memory has been playing tricks on me! I also think I got Katanec wrong (for the same reason!). Thanks for correcting me on this! I actually watched the '58 World Cup final just the other night (inspired by this very thread, actually), to check out a few of what I thought might've been leftie candidates - being Gren, Liedholm and Skoglund. Turns out only Skoglund was a genuine leftie.
I was very surprised the first time I saw Maldini take a free-kick - with his right foot (which as others have noted, is a pretty good [though not infallible] guide to footedness. On the subject of righties playing on the left, was Lars Bastrup a rightie? I couldn't find any good footage of him.
Yeah, I saw that a while ago and actually felt (with other input to my brain too) Liedholm was probably left footed primarily (although he scored with his right in that game and is two sided really) but that might have been discussed on the thread already. Gren definitely right yes, and Skoglund I thought was left indeed but my memory wasn't quite so clear for sure (probably because some 'old' left wing legends were certainly right footed).
I'd forgotten this guy, too (might have been partly due to the fact that he largely played on the right - very unusual for the time): Bruno Conti.
Sebastiano Nela (Italian international left back who played from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s for Genoa, Roma and Napoli).
