    Did not know:

Also returning to the club is Serbian-American attacking midfielder [Dusañ] Stevanović, who had one goal in 13 appearances a season ago. A local standout who began his professional career with FK Sinđelić Beograd in his native Serbia, the 24-year-old Stevanović scored his first goal for Orange County on May 21 against Real Monarchs SLC.

It's relatively rare for me to post links to Vogue, but I guess beauty's where you find it.

Story's about a young runway model named Dorien Olson:

“Soccer was a longtime interest of mine—watching it, playing it, talking about it. I wish I kept up a little more this season when it came to playing and watching. I’ve mainly resorted to FIFA to get that thrill this past year, but I’ll always love the sport. I moved to Santa Cruz, Bolivia, for a short period to pursue the sport. I was a part of the Tahuichi Academy, advancing my skills to try out for the Blooming professional soccer team. It was hard to go from Chicago to Bolivia, one of the poorest countries in South America—but I got to develop some skills and saw my potential in a way that I would never have in the U.S. Eventually, I came back and was practically a whole new person on the field. I started playing for the Chicago Fire Jr. team. I was on the Youth 16 team when I was 14. Some time passed and the sport didn’t coincide with the lifestyle I wanted to live, so I eventually just made it a hobby instead of a full-time career.”

    Don't just stand there.

Something I didn't know about a Gen X radio host:

In his early years, fresh out of school, Chad left everything he knew at home in Southern California to play professional soccer in Europe and was talented enough to be signed onto the rosters of several teams including the Bristol Rovers, the Fallkirk Scotland and the Portsmouth Football Club.

Huh. Appears not to have been one when he signed in 2013.

Got a Green Card before the 2015 season.

This story on the Houston signing only says GC:

This sounds like maybe he married an American? @BostonRed, thoughts on the timeline? (Obviously, this happened long after he was an international player for URU.)

The only way to get US citizenship *faster* than the 3 years for marrying an American is the "David Regis" track, which is marry an American who then takes employment with a US company or US government entity overseas. He spent the last year or so overseas, so that makes it harder to get the time in country needed if it was for marrying a US citizen.

    I guess the options are:

    1) The club is mistaken and he is only a Green Card holder (perhaps mostly likely)
    2) The 2015 date for the GC is wrong and he received it earlier (and married a US citizen)
    3) The David Regis move

US U-19 keeper Matias Reynares, who just moved from Ft. Lauderdale Strikers to North Carolina FC (the former Carolina Railhawks), had spent three years at Defensor Sporting Club's academy in Uruguay, before moving back stateside to sign with the Strikers for the 2016 season. He also has been called up to Uruguay U-17. Doesn't appear we had a YA thread on him.

    Snip:

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Harrisburg City Islanders announced on Friday it had re-signed defender Chris Hill, pending league and federation approval. The defender returns to Central Pennsylvania after making his USL debut with Harrisburg last season.

    ...

In the offseason, Hill spent some time overseas training in Italy and Germany and looks forward to playing a larger role in 2017 for the Harrisburg City Islanders.

    Christopher Avila:

An all-district honorable mention defender as a senior at Robert E. Lee, Avila was given a chance to play professionally in Mexico, where he played for San Luis Potosi for a couple years.

“It’s funny because ever since I got picked to go play in Mexico I always thought, ‘How come this guy didn’t get picked - why me?’ ” Avila said. “I didn’t feel like I was the best player out of Tyler, Texas.”

Avila played until he turned 21, when he was no longer considered a youth player.

While the club offered him a contract, it wasn’t enough money to support himself.

“I was interested in making money,” Avila said. “That’s why I went to the oil fields.”

He now works with Tyler of the NPSL in a non-playing capacity.
