Does Miazga remind anyone of Sokratis Papastathopoulus?

Very similar players in the sense that they are both very physical and emotional on the field (sometimes too physical and emotional, which can get them in trouble), good in the air, excellent 1v1 defenders, rarely make many defensive mistakes, struggle with their passing, and while they are okay in terms of pace, they aren't speedsters and can be beaten over the top in a pure foot race by players with excellent speed?

Miazga is two inches taller, but I think at his peak, thats the level of player he could be.

I'm not familiar with that player. is he world class or is there other reasons you compare the 2?

Do you not watch Pulisic play? His teammate, the greek center back.

i watch Pulisic clips on youtube. I'm so lazy these days, I only watch Liverpool. Gone are the days I'd watch any CL or PL or Bundesliga match

Not really. Sokratis's positioning is head and shoulders above Miazga's.

Sokratis was also the linchpin of the "Pirate Ship" defense back in 2014. He scored the tying goal versus the Ticos, too.

Sokratis is an asset on attack, his short passing may not be that good, but his long balls are dangerous. Matt's not close, IMO.

I like Miazga a lot but it's always been Platonic.

I'm not 100% sure, but this either indicates Miazga and Kruiswijk were demoted to the U15 coed team or they visited a local school. Not sure which.

    https://www.vitesse.nl/nl/nieuws/detail/6351/kruiswijk-miazga-op-de-johannesschool

(basically the kids from the Johannes School get to work with coach Ton Vosselman for 8 weeks.)

Kruiswijk was asked if he watched his diet and admitted to being so hopped up on bennies he has ground his teeth to nubs, or eating a hamburger, I'm not sure which.

  8. This weekend the derby of the bridge too far:

Both cities are a mere 10 miles away from each other, but the rivalry is enormous.
Nijmegen, or Novio Magus as the Romans called it, considers itself as the oldest Dutch city (Maastricht doesnot agree)

It also had a court of Charlemagne.
Arnhem (which means Home of the Eagle) is about a 1000 years younger, but it has the "Duivelshuis"=House of the Devil

Hmmmm. Too bad Oosterbeek doesn't have a team - that would really fill things out.

NEC also has a long history with US players, being one time home of the legendary Chaz Kaz (Charles Kazlauskas) as well as a few other Ams...

So I've been moderately paying attention to this loan spell. It seems like things have picked up.

Someone that's been more all over it: has it been a success? What is Miazga's next move from here?

It's a solid "B" and could get bumped up if the season ends well. He is now playing regularly after on-again/off-again chances in the fall. Vitesse is in 5th in Ered, a very respectable position for them (of course they'd like to be higher, but the top 4 slots in the Dutch top flight are almost always going include 2 o 3 of PSV/Ajax/Feyen. Utrecht is holding up 4th this season AZ and Twente, usually decent teams, are neck and neck with Vitesse.

Miazga has not Emo Hynmaned his way into the side, but I don't think anyone at Chelsea (or another club) will see too much negative for a young CD to get as much game as MM and for his side to remain competitive with the top of the Dutch league.

That said, I have not actually seen his past two games, and how he looks on the field to Chelsea eyes will be more important. I thought he looked pretty decent for a young player in a new league last time I saw him, but since then I can't say.

    I probably agree with a B or B+
A 21 yr old for a 5th place Eredivisie team? Starting the last 7 league games after subbing the first 3?
Having a 4-3 record in those games. With 2 of the losses 1-0 affairs vs Ajax and PSV?
I don't know how to compare that to Emerson Hyndman but I say its pretty good.
Wouldn't absolutely hate another year at Vitesse but don't think they'd be up for a transfer any where what Chelsea paid for 5million. Does a B+ at Vitesse get a loan next year to a mid or lower table Bundesliga team who could pay more than Vitesse? Wait and see.

I think he needs at least one more year at this level or slightly above in Europe to prove himself. Even then not sure Chelsea will see him as first team material, but maybe he could work his way to Bundesliga or something.

I don't think anyone has been watching his matches lately tbh ... sounds more like general situation analysis

Both are human, both are soccer players.
Less snarky: not at all alike. Miazga is a big but finesse player, Socrates is very physical with pretty average skill.

Neither are good passers, very negative passers, they are both physical (sometimes too physical), feisty, good 1v1 and positional defenders but lack raw pace, good in the air, eastern European background.

People don't have to agree with me, but I think they are similar, and thats eventually the level of play I think Miazga could play at.

Sokratis makes good decisions and handle the ball. If Miazga can get to that level he would be a starter

I'd think "a general situation analysis" is exactly what judging a loan would be though, no? Many of us here have seen him play a number of these games (I saw two in March, for instance). It's not likely his form has changed exceptionally in the past two game, especially as Vitesse's results have been pretty much as expected if not better.

During the week I usually check the game summaries from a few of the Dutch on-line "papers." If there's anything exceptional, I'll post it. He's mostly gone unmentioned/mild praise. He seems to not be wowing anyone, but also not out of his depth too badly either.

Well a more informed analysis by someone who has watched his development would be totally different then someone saying, "I see he made 22 appearances in the Eredivisie therefor he should try and move to the Bundesliga or Ligue 1 next season" - anyone can do that but it doesn't tell us much about Miazga or his development. There are indeed more informed posters on BigSoccer who sometimes watch every match and are well informed regarding a players development.

Just glad Miazga fought his way into the regular rotation. Also good that Vitesse wants to hold onto him for another year. As long as they are invested in him, he will get a good education. That is what he needs at this point in his career.
