It is fair to say that City have not particularly missed him while he has been out but I did some research about Aguero and his goal record at City and found this article. His goals per game ratio is unbelievable and I really do think he will go down as one of, if not the best Prem striker of all-time. I do however think he struggles to match the overall topscorers....largely as i think he will either leave City or suffer injuries but his GPG record is outstanding. Thoughts? Does anybody think he doesn't deserve to be up there?
He hasn't been in the Premier League in a while, but I still think Cristiano Ronaldo should have been included. He scored 0.43 goals per Premier League game he played in.
Stats to me meanless in making some kind of realistic determination here. Thierry henry, Jurgen Klinsman (past his prime, but nonetheless), and Luis Suarez were better strikers. I think probably Robbie Fowler too. Maybe Van Pistelrooy also. There's a need for some kind of matrix between these stat charts and the subjective personal.. which is an impossibility we can't arrive at, of course...... If you play a longer time then when you fade a bit the numerical graph representation for time will change ..... so, in essence, let's say the study was one that calculates the best dribbler, in terms of double player beating dribbles - a player like John barnes or Ryan Giggs, because they played much longer, would probably be on a similar stat for minutes played range as lesser players who only played in the prem three or four years.
Obviously Shearer has the record for most amount of games in the Premier League but for me I would go with Henry who I think would have beaten that record if he had stayed in England until the end of his career.
Shearer was a beast, you must remember he was scoring goals for fun in much weaker teams, and was the key man in the Blackburn team that won The Premiership. The same could be said for players like Matt Le Tissier as well, scored a lot in a weaker Premier League side and had much more to his game than just scoring goals. I probably wouldn't even put Aguero in my top 5...although he is class.
i was not around for Shearer so gotta take your guys word for it. how does he compare against other strikers of his generation?
Back then there was no end of top forwards, not only in The Premiership, but around the world...But Shearer was right up there on world level, I'd say only the Brazilian Ronaldo would've been seen as a more reputable striker...Romario was another goal machine too. But Shearer was without doubt the best of his generation in The Premiership, Robbie Fowler, Andy Cole, Les Ferdinand and Ian Wright would've been his main rivals as all out goal scorers...Then you had great forwards like Cantona, Berkamp, Zola, Le Tissier etc all good through the 90's. Shearer was the best in my opinion simply because of the consistency, being a big game player, and done it for different teams.
It often seems at least when comparable to other 90s strikers from what I'm aware of that Shearer seems to be more valued by the English and not so much those outside. Maybe it's just cause he never played for a big CL club. I mean why choose Newcastle over United? And weren't Barcelona interested in him or maybe just something wikipedia listed
If you could have any combination (front 2) which would you go for? Could probably make a case for Bergkamp & Henry, the way those two played together.
Henry for me. Aguero is great though. But Suarez produced the greatest pl performance ever in 2013-14 season. Just unbelievable and very shame that Liverpool did not win
No, he's not. He's hte best there is NOW. Of all-time, it's the guy who won four golden boots (still a record), and two European Golden Boots in England and not Barca (Shearer never won the European Golden Boot). if people need a clue, he's French and now works on Sky Sports.
I would concur with Henry. Only played 8 years in the PL and left an outstanding memory there and especially with Arsenal. Honestly I don't get how Shearer is the top scorer of all time in the league. You'd have thought it would be Henry or even Rooney. How good was Shearer at his peak? Cause he seems quite underrated for that time period when compared to say Ronaldo in the 90s
Aguero is without doubt one of the most accomplished strikers in the Premier League, but to say he is the best would be a massive over statement. I'd say he's not even the best South-American to ever grace the Premier League. Suarez for me was head and shoulder above him. Suarez played with a much below par team as compared to Aguero yet he managed to outscore him in his last season in PL.
