So Chung Mong Kyu says that he isn't considering sacking Stielike. ******** Chung Mong Kyu. Shame he ended being just as incompetent and stubborn as the rest of them.
http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/news/2017/03/24/0200000000AEN20170324001000315.html "We didn't play such a bad match," Chung told reporters at Incheon International Airport. "We had a few chances in the second half but just couldn't convert them. The players did the best they could under the circumstances. We haven't lost hopes of qualifying for the World Cup and talks of a coaching change (are premature)."
This morning I was debating between taking the metro or shelling out more money to take an Uber that, among other things, would have allowed me to leave later and watch the first 30 minutes of this match. I ended up taking the metro, and I'm glad Stielike justified my decision to save some money. I still haven't seen a single minute of the match, but just looking at the lineups tells me the entire story. Why is someone like Lee Junghyup still starting? The time for experimentation is over. Reading through this thread, someone noted that at least Stielike started Jang Hyunsoo at CB instead of RB. I find that hilarious. It's been over two years with Stielike at the helm. We are now closer to the next World Cup than we are to last one. And arguably the biggest improvement that Stielike has made is play an out-and-out CB at CB instead of RB. Maybe the only new thing to note from this match is how Stielike keeps doing his best to prove his (few remaining) supporters wrong. When Lee Junghyup was first selected, some people said he was just testing things out. Yet here we are, in the last round of WCQ, with Lee Junghyup still a starter. When Stielike was noted for picking a lot of ME and China-based players, some people said he didn't actually have a bias toward those leagues. And then he comes out and says moving to CSL is good for our players and that he wishes he had Sebastian Soria. When we barely scraped a win against China last time, some people said there was no way we could get worse. And here we are. Congratulations to Stielike for somehow managing to give China over half of the points, all of the goals, and the only victory that they have won this WCQ round. I guess that's an achievement. Maybe Stielike doesn't like THAAD either.
In addition to what others said, I suspect that the fact that Stielike was working with the German youth set-up that eventually brought Germany great success was part of it. Of course, what Lee Yongsoo (the guy who recruited him) didn't realize was that Stielike had little role to play in that development. There was a reason this guy was a journeyman in the Middle East before we hired h You're right, we could have had a much better coach. We could have had Bert van Marwijk, who said that he wishes he could have coached Korea and currently has Saudi Arabia at the top of a much tougher group, while we cling onto 2nd.
It's his money. If he wants to burn it on UliShit, then so be it. He just needs to know he's an imbecile and a laughingstock by sticking with UliShit.
Well, then I hope he's ready to get fired when we don't make the World Cup as a result of his complete idiocy. Under Stielke, we are going to be a shit team who loses all three matches at the World Cup at best.
kfa didnt groom shin taeyong for the last 3 years so they can let him go. if they decide domestic coach is the way shin taeyong will always be on top of the list. only way someone else is considered is if a coach who has accomplished more than shin taeyong becomes vocal about his interest. so for choi yongsu to be considered he probably will have to win a title or two this season
My observation: CYS has definitely improved as a manager and tactician over the few seasons I have watched him. After the season in which he took FC Seoul to a league title and ACL runners-up (2012 or 13 I believe?), he had to deal with player exodus season after season. It was like rebuilding every season or sometimes middle of one. So I give him props for at least having tried to flexibly deal with the situation he was dealt with. I don't how much authority he had in signing replacement players, but many were disappointing. But players like Osmar Barba and Yojiro Takahagi I believe were great signings and ones in which Choi really put to good use (integrating them and developing a role for them). I do recall some members here more knowledgable about FC Seoul than me (such as Chaduri) expressing frustration with Choi in 2014-15 seasons. CYS's FC Seoul struggled in the league and miraculously scraped by in the ACL. Goals weren't coming and the team looked rigid and unimaginative. Boring. Uninspiring. The thing is, he did manage to pull FC Seoul out of group stages somehow i the ACL (though i recall getting pummeled in the knockouts) and somehow qualifying the team for ACL (through cup tournament). After signing the likes of PCY and Adriano, I think Choi really figured out his attacking style. Often resembling a sort of "Asian MSN", choi's FC seoul ripped through both K-league and ACL defense, often displaying beautiful plays. Soon after he left for China. I recall one Korean football pundit saying that he felt that was a good time for Choi to head over because, "he [Choi] has proven he can take on bigger challenges in another country. He has 'figured out' what style of winning football he wants and how he can get players to play that way". Pros: He can experiment with variety of formations (and willing), seems good at adapting decently to not-so-favorable situations, knack for tournament (ACL at least). Achieved a lot in Korea and (hopefully) in China. Cons: inexperienced in managing a national side, not sure if his managerial skills can handle international football.
I was about to write my typical, annoying, facetious, and cynical sh*t post or two, but I stopped. That is because I truly feel sorry for Cha Duri and Seol Ki hyun for having to be associated with these f**king clowns from now on. EDIT: and for having their post-player career tarnished at their beginnings.
im not sure what happened? we did great under uli up until the asian cup final. what happened after that?
We have the right players There are rumors that STYs influence as an assistant coach faded and Stielike took control over everything (it's even inofficially confirmed as he stated to opt for inexperienced Cha and Seol over a foreign assistant with experience after STY became U20 manager). Without STY the little bit of tactics we had, has vanished.
1) Player Selection: I'm not asking him to base all of 23 players on form alone. Having worked with KNT for nearly 3 years now, he should have his set of favorites (as with most managers, I assume). But the problem is that he outright refuses to integrate new faces (maybe sprinkle 2-4 newbies who are in-form for their respective clubs), the new players he does occasionally call up are suspect and don't get used anyways. More problematic is that Stielike has not demonstrated effective use of his "favorites". He is not good at assigning roles to his players. 2) In-Game Decisions Poor line-up and selections complicated by poor tactics. On good days, Stielike's team looks dull and inefficient. On bad days, they look dysfunctional and appear to concede at any second. On any days, they look confused. Substitutions = wtf. 3) P.R. This guy has a knack for making enemies (and make himself look like a clueless arsehole). I'll give him that.
why should he? what's wrong with wanting & supporting KNT to win the next match? regardless of the situation or the "manager", it is only logical for fans to want their teams to win
