He said teams that spend money dont always win. He also said a 200 m investment is enough to win the Champions League. I think he wants to win and will spend money but he doesnt really know about football.
Well look at it this way. Bordeaux was a more popular club than Lyon in the 80's- early 2000's but after that Lyon blew right past them and Bordeaux since they won the title in 2008 have sunk to irrelevancy. Time for a change.
anyone knows about france spots in champions league after new changes that will show up from season 2018-19?! ...i saw footbal italia site wroten that france will have just 1 guaranteed spot and 1 qualifying place..really?!!! just 1.5 spots for ligue1 in champions league ?!!!
http://www.espnfc.us/uefa-champions...evamp-a-scandal-for-ligue-1-clubs-union-chief They have a better chance of getting 3 teams in year after year because the 3rd place team will avoid teams from the top 4 leagues and only have 1 qualifying round to play.
I haven't seen that anywhere. The changes that were proposed actually aren't as dramatic. From what I read, France will still get 3 spots, 2 of which are guaranteed. France still sends big clubs to the Champions League. It's more just smaller leagues that are going to feel the pinch.
I mean is it fair England, Spain, Germany, Italy get 4 guaranteed spots and France gets 2.5 ? Yeah because of French team's performances on the field. Plus France can always surpass Italy or Germany and get those 4 spots. Unlikely but possible. I would rather the 5 place league get 3 guaranteed spots but whatever. France battles Portugal for 5th place anyways, they arent even a solid 5th place.
thanks i didnt see that link before and now read it and its seems your right....plus now i just seached and find this link that explains all changes with almost every details... http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/AccessList2018.html
i think at least france should have 3 guaranteed spots ...really i dont see Serie A level above Ligue 1 through they get better points in last five season ...here in ligue 1 we have MONACO OL .OM and PSG and just 2.5 spots ?!..its not fair
The 2 Milans arent what they used to be, thats why the gap has closed between the 2 leagues. If they ever get back to what they once where, the gap will widen again. France doesnt have anything that can equal them. If you go PSG = Juventus, Lyon = Roma, Monaco = Napoli, Marseille = Lazio, Who in France can equal Milan and Inter ? Bordeaux, Lille ? LOL yeah right !
If French teams did better in European competitions (both Champions AND Europa League), they could justify more teams. Aside from this year, there's usually at least one Serie A team in quarterfinals or both the Champions League and Europa League. It's not so much one team going deep. It's many teams going far enough. Germany overtook Italy, and ultimately England, solely because their teams took the Europa League seriously. It's why England would've lost their fourth Champions League spot to Italy, but the new rules are preventing that from happening. French clubs who have no chance of winning the league or even finishing near the top 3 should be taking Europa League seriously, but that typically doesn't happen. This year, OL appears to be taking it seriously, but that might be because winning it would be their only way into the Champions League next year.
Before the CL format change, the top 3 Spain, Germany, England all getting 3.5 spots while the 4th place Italy getting 2.5 spots. With after the new CL format change in 2018-2019, the biggest winner out of it will be Italy as the new format basically guarantee the top 4 leagues Spain, Germany, England and Italy with 4 spots. (This arguably benefits Italy the most) The 5th & 6th place France and Russia will be getting 2.5 spots while the 7th to 10th ranked Portugal, Ukraine, Belgium and Turkey will all getting 1.5 spots. I really hope Monaco & Lyon can continue their momentum and go further in their current CL & Europa League campaign. We can close the gap with the Italy to take the 4 guarantee spots from them.
The biggest winner is actually England. They were on the verge of losing the 4th spot to Italy before this change was made because Italian teams had been going deeper in both competitions than English teams.
Gotta do it this year because both clubs next year are likely to lose important key players. I have faith that both clubs can restock but thats not a guarantee.
