He plays a different role for Spurs that gets the best out of him. Hodgson played him pretty much as a CM. Should play as a forward behind our more technical options or not at all imo.

Are we placing bets on a replacement? I say Southgate won't break the habit of a lifetime therefore won't call up an replacement.
Yeah I doubt he will call anyone. I guess with a 26 man squad it isn't so bad. It unintentionally makes Walcott's omission a little sillier.
The thread links look exactly the same whether you've read the thread or not. It's a pain in the arse.
Don't know if any of you heard Piers Morgan today, on Durham's Talksport show, hammering Wenger like no one else can. He also called two of the players a disgrace (for standing around when West Brom scored a couple of the goals). One was Chamberlain (the other Ramsey) Still that's Chamberlain I suppose.
Morgan has always hated Wenger. Eventually Arsenal will let Arsene go only after he completely bottles it. It doesn't help at all that Kronke just cares about the profits and couldn't care less about the product on the pitch. I really hope Ox can play well in these upcoming games for England.
What a surprise: "Manchester United defender Phil Jones has pulled out of the England squad to face Germany and Lithuania after picking up an injury in training."
Team news for tomorrow. Southgate insinuated that Sterling will not play because of a heavy club work load. Cahill to captain the team.
I think our style suits well against Germany cause we're decent at counter-attacking football and none of their defenders have much pace. Ozil, Gomez and Draxler have been ruled out.
One could point out that the English team in the QFs has four regular starters who are English and only one in the current squad..... In fact, they have started 7 English players in the group stages. But I won't.
Roy Hodgson rejects criticism of England tactics at Euro 2016. By @DTguardian https://t.co/l1L8fwLvbD— Guardian sport (@guardian_sport) March 21, 2017 Seriously Roy is deluded, not that we didn't already know it. Have we ever had a more stubborn and pig headed manager in charge of England?
Hodgson was always very stubborn. That was evidenced in previous roles he had failed in before the England role. The stuff always about the changes against Slovakia wasn't really a big issue though imo. We actually played well until he made changes and continuously made us worse.
Hmmm... not sure how telling these sorts of broad brush-stroke things are, though. We've had multiple teams in the CL, often with a number of Eng players in years gone by, (although not the proportions the foreign sides do, that's true), and I can't say as I've noticed us doing any better. We had CFC, LeArse, ManU and Liverpool in 2008 with CFC and ManU in the finals, (with10 English outfield players, IIRC), and didn't even qualify for the euros under McSven. I suppose it gives you a trend but, y'know...
His logic about Harry Kane, the best striker of ball, for his reason of him taking corners is floored. The corners that Kane took were terrible if I remember right, and Kane would be best served in the box from a corner. Lallana would of been my choice to take corners. Hodgson baffled me with what seemed silly mistakes and not acting to change things, when certain plans weren't working. You have got to get the basics right in tournaments. Hopefully Southgate will be better in these situations.
