Gonna go off on a rant here, but I dislike when people use this quote in isolation. It makes the poem seem like it's about individualism, that there is something great in choosing our own path - the road less travelled. When in reality if you read the damn poem both roads look the same. It isn't clear which road is less travelled. The guy is having a hard time picking one. But he thinks in the future he's going to look back at this moment and claim he took the road less travelled and that is was an important decision. I'm no poetry expert, but it seems to me the poem is almost mocking the rationalizations people give for their decisions. And of course instead of picking up on nuance people read it as triumphant and affirming. Whatever.

Trust yourself bro, your analysis is popularly accepted among scholars. The poem is entitled "The road not taken" not less traveled, and is habitually misinterpreted the way you described. You are right on. It is the path we do not take that is defined here. For no other reason than it was not chosen. Good intuition.

Hey man, today, of all days (National Pancake Day!) to read this...

It's one of those great (not so great) things about poems, songs, etc. There is the intended meaning, the unintended meaning and the appropriated or ascribed meaning. Often the ascribed meaning is the one that "claims" the work, no matter the intention, like a bunch of frat boys in Ray Bans unironically singing Timbuc 3's "Future's So Bright I've got to Wear Shades."

What seems to speak to folks is not the mocking of the rationalization, but the realization that taking a path less traveled can, indeed, make all the difference, Frost's cantankerous swamp-Yankee cleverness be damned.

    Last posts are fantastic.
    A wholly different level

    Thank you. Makes me smile.
Now, do you have any good poems referencing Gothenburg, Gothenborg, Gøteborg or Göteborg?
If so - might come in handy, or handy for awhile.

"There once was a man from Göteborg
Who met a girl he thought was gorg
It was love at first sight
    Try as he might..."

...and the last line is about as bad as you'd expect.

It looks like the Göteborg poetry festival is defunct, actually. The last edition appears to have been in 2015.

Tonight you might see that Mix was never bought out. Maybe we even get to see some proof.

with all sincerity, good luck on this next stanza. it's not a lot of personalities that have the stomach to play this random interaction with anonymous fan game. I really appreciate it - and am hoping you have a great year.

What happens after the loan ends in August, I wonder? Regardless, hope our man Mix kicks some ass over there.

Mix Diskerud isn’t giving up on his USMNT World Cup dream

    http://www.starsandstripesfc.com/us...ud-ifk-goteborg-mls-loan-usmnt-world-cup-2018

With his standing at NYCFC irreparable and his salary too high for any other MLS club to take on, he’s heading to the land of Zlatan to try and get career back on track. MLS has loaned Mix to Swedish club IFK Göteborg. In his first interview after joining his new club, he says he’s not giving up on his hope of representing the USA at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Asked what his ambitions were, Diskerud replied, “Making your players even better for the team. There are those who will score goals and keep a clean sheet, because I expect to be put up in the center. And YES – I have an ambition to continue national team career and get the United States to Russia.”

I've put together an... improved?... translation:

"You ask me my dream. So I think of the team.

To make players better is ever my scheme.

I know some score goals. And some others fill holes.

And keeping a clean sheet compels keepers' souls.

The center is mine. My playmaking's divine.

I lead all my teammates in toeing the line.

My boxes are checked. I'm among the elect.

It's sure that Arena will Mix the select."

There was a Young Lady of Sweden,
    Who went by the slow rain to Weedon;
    When they cried, 'Weedon Station!'
    She made no observation
But thought she should go back to Sweden.
