Tim Ream just took the ball off 16-year-old Ryan Sessegnon to stop him getting a hat-trick against Newcastle. Then he missed. What a tit. pic.twitter.com/86wLK3ZEKk— Football Tweet ⚽ (@Football__Tweet) March 11, 2017 Tim with a mention
90+2' Penalty missed. Tim Ream steps up and powers it just past the right post. It remains FFC 3-1 NUFC— Fulham Football Club (@FulhamFC) March 11, 2017 (1/2) Not my decision folks, was completely prepared to have Sess take it. Embarrassing nonetheless. Manager took the decision.— Tim Ream (@timream5) March 11, 2017 (2/2) Cheers for the kind words though 😂😂. Shouldn't take away from the great team performance away from home!! We go again Tuesday!!!— Tim Ream (@timream5) March 11, 2017
I know this is the Ream thread, but does anyone else feel bad that there is a significant chance that Sessegnon is going to get bought by a big club and either get stuck being a reserve or being loaned out like the classroom pet. The kid has got "it", I hope he goes to a situation that helps him.
I think he'll stay for another year or two with Fulham. He has a brother at the club, has been with the club long term, and is only 16 (turns 17 in May). If any of those factors were different? Probably gone this year.
He needs to go to the right club at the right time and he's good enough that this summer might be the right time. Anything that resulted in a loan back into the Championship would be useless but if a bigger club trusted him with a squad role straight off the bat - similar to Trent Alexander-Arnold this season at Liverpool - that would be a good situation for him IMO. On Ream, I think he should have disobeyed orders and given Sessegnon the penalty. Everyone (outside of Newcastle) wanted to see that hat trick happen.
Either: A) He didn't want Sessegnon to get too full of himself; or B) He wanted Ream to look like a tit. Or maybe a bit of both ...
But better would have been to refuse his manager's orders, citing if necessary Nuremberg Principle IV. Quoting Wiki: "The fact that a person acted pursuant to order of his Government or of a superior does not relieve him from responsibility under international law, provided a moral choice was in fact possible to him". This principle could be paraphrased as follows: "It is not an acceptable excuse to say 'I was just following my superior's orders'." Now, one might argue that Ream's taking Sessegnon's penalty kick was not a "crime against peace" nor a "war crime," but I think it walks right up to the edge of being a "crime against humanity." Right at the line, but not over it, would be my verdict.

A win would likely do the trick as sixth place Sheffield Wednesday and fifth place Reading face off. With one of those two dropping points, the door is once again open for Fulham to get back into the playoff picture."
