Just thought I'd get this thread rolling, since many of the currently-confirmed teams have been coming out with player signings over the past week or so. I know tryouts have been announced (held?) as well, so hopefully we'll get some preseason games soon too. In the meantime, some of the interesting signings so far: FCI: Laura Suarez (PUR captain), Kelly Johnson (PUR) DET: Isabella Habuda (CAN U17), Hannah Drkulec (CRO U17) SAC: Melissa Herrera (CRC, WWC15), Carolina Venegas (CRC, WWC15) GRD: Michaela "Mouse" Kovacs (USA U19), Annie Steinlage (MSU/UVA, Vaasa FC), Paige Eli (ENG U19)
No. Drafts have only ever been for the top-level leagues. And for WoSo in particular, the non-top-level leagues have never been professional, contract-wise, across the board. So it's not like there are player rights to worry about. For the UWS clubs that do give professional contracts, everyone is a free agent. It's not a single-entity league.
A few more signings to point out: SAC: Katherine Alvarado (CRC captain, WWC15) DET: Carly Alfano (Xavier, CAN U-?)
Alright, things are really starting to get under way I guess... Before we get there, it seems that SAC has re-signed four core players from last year: Gudgeon, Castaneda, Hernandez & McCaskill In bigger news, though, some Central Conference teams have started releasing their schedules. Seems like it'll be a ten-game slate for each Central Conference team despite there being seven teams in the conference - and yes, newly-added member Indy Premier is included in these ten-game schedules. So it'll be interesting to see how SoS factors in to things, if at all. What we know so far:
In addition to the two PUR players mentioned earlier, FCI has now added a second GUA NTer, with Jennifer Munoz joining GUA teammate Dani Andrade for the Lionesses.
I saw over the weekend that SAC continue to build a strong roster in their defense of the UWS title... they signed Venezuelan international & FSU forward Deyna Castellanos. She's one helluva player from what I've seen written about her. Also, this... Its like shoot and BANG... in the back of the net.
GRFC schedule out: With three of the seven Midwest schedules out, we can probably guess as to what the remaining four are, though I don't have the focus right now to play with these puzzle pieces...
Stay tuned all of our fans, friends & families of #UWoSo... we'll be announcing our official 2017 conference alignments/schedules next week!— United Women's Soccer (UWS) (@UWSSoccer) February 28, 2017 Also, some more notable signings: DET: Natalie Winters (USA U-20) FCI: Annelie Leitner (AUT) TOL: Ella Walsh (WLS) GRD: Matri Corby (2x DII player of the year)
where did she play last season... or did she even play last season? You'd probably have to go to Santa Clarita...
I don't think she played last season... She was on trial with FCKC, then was apparently subject to the redistribution draft and wasn't selected by anyone. I'm not sure if that left her as a free agent in NWSL's eyes or actually blocked her out.
FCI has signed Yo Tachibana (Japan U-20). @blissett @Lechus7 FCI is certainly trying to compete with SAC for the most international team in UWS, it seems! X-D SAC is winning in the WWC experience category, though.
They're late on this now. I did notice, though, when I went to their site that the "teams" tab is no longer there; I assume it's been temporarily removed while they update it...
I have to say that, despite her international status, I don't know much about her. I'll try asking something more on Japan's thread.
As is usually with DII-WoSo in the US, accurate information is hard to come by... it seems that she's represented Japan at U-16 and U-17, but I actually can't find confirmation she's been capped at the U-20 level.
Well that would explain why they're late on their promise to release the schedule. And I was so looking forward to the 7-7-7 conference alignment. X-D
Hmm... http://www.excellesports.com/news/western-ny-flash-uws/ Bad reporting, or is there a huge shuffle that's gonna be dropped on us soon?
Toledo's schedule is now available, and the ending is brutal: four away games in nine days! http://toledovillafc.com/schedules.html
