Ranieri sacking is not really a surprise considering Leicester's current league position and the risk of dropping a division.....no loyalty in football similarly with players that don't perform or accepting the best offer for shirt sponsors, it's whats in the interest of the club that matters and the deciding factor

Going back to Ranieri, his managerial career has always involved clubs teetering on success but just stumbling on the last hurdle

I've been watching a lot of games recently, and what I'm seeing is a game that is rapidly descending into a non-contact sport.

This has been happening for years as we all know, but god almighty it's getting ridiculous now. Every mild contact gets called a foul - certainly if anyone goes to ground - and every slight touch produces either Oscar-calibre theatrics or real screams from players who seem to have no pain threshold whatsoever.

    Very depressing to watch.

I blame those foreign players........ For introducing it.
It was never in your dreams a problem when we were growing up playing and watching the game.
Then came the South Americans. (Come at me:)) into the European leagues and brought it with them like Ebola.
Germany soon became infested as did other leagues and then it finally made it to Britain. Where it seemed it was readily accepted among a lot of players without any pride at all.
Now certain clubs have diving days just to practice.

It's too late to stamp out The refs have a tough job sorting out the real from the dramatic and often get it wrong.
Recordings with independent reviews post match with huge fines, would help sort it out a little but they're not going to catch it all.
    Perhaps a monthly firing squad.

that's the ticket. I'll volunteer to be on the panel to select who gets shot. if it's a Manc or Chelsea player I'll do double-duty with the rifle as well....

Our very own Michael Owen was an expert at it although he never displayed the post tackle amateur dramatics seen today....and it's a well known secret that managers 'encourage' going down in the 6 yard box for a penalty

And remember Sterling, he stayed on his feet when he was clearly fouled and deserved a pen if he hit the deck....expros and so called pundits criticised him for this

I like the reffing. The small, dribbling Messis would not have developed under English reffing and esp not under 80ies reffing cause those guys would have died out there if you dont protect them like today.

It highlights it even further how good players like Maradona, Dalglish, Cruyff and even Zidane earlier on, used to get the rough treatment in games but these players managed to shine.....Best used to get hacked down in games but that was A OK given he was a Manutd player

I agree up to a point. for example stopping the tackles from behind was long overdue.

but at this point almost any contact, no matter how slight, that causes a player to lose balance will cause him to go down and almost always gets blown up by the ref. it stops the game, slows things down, and gets players and fans pissed off and demanding retribution. players who gets slightly knocked off balance don't even try to recover --- as Don described if they don't go down and it doesn't work out they'll probably get shit from their teammates, or manager, or both.

I don't have any real solutions to suggest other then refs being less whistle-happy with this kind of thing. let the players play and accept that not all contact is illegal.

oh well, it's all good innit? can you believe this shit?

England international Eric Dier says his Tottenham teammate Dele Alli is learning to cope with attempts to rile him by opposing sides.

Alli was sent off in the 2-2 draw with Gent last week but responded with a goal as Spurs beat Stoke 4-0 at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

"He is very young and that (tackle against Gent) won't be the last mistake he makes," close friend Dier says.

"He will make more mistakes and the most important thing is he learns from them and reacts in the right way, and he does. He was very disappointed after what happened on Thursday and there has been a lot of attention on him.

"But he is very young and of course he is going to make a mistake. I don't think it fazes him, he played his game and scored a goal, and everyone will forget about what happened on Thursday."

Translation: He's a whiney entitled bitch.

He's one that needs camera watching and facing the firing squad for second offence.

Honest question - you don't miss Skrtel's massive heart? His passion? Yeah he's prone to the occasional f up now and again but the man bled for Liverpool (sometimes literally). Watch any of his LFC goals and you can see the intensity and the "I don't give a f, get out of my way" mentality. Skrtel brought it every game he was here. I miss THAT.

I don't think Skrtel was any worse defensively than Lovren or Klavan? He was certainly a bigger threat at set pieces. And he had plenty of passion.

El Nino was released from the hospital and allowed to go home after a night of observation due to yesterday's head injury during Atletico's game at Deportiva La Coruna.

Bottle job at Old Crapford as Mings stamps on Ibrahimovic's head who elbows him to the ground. No action taken in the most blatantly incompetent referring performance for some time.

will his elbow get reviewed? the comms seemed to think so, saying he'd get 3 games.

I'm not sure of the rules these days ....
