Just read Rayo OKC won't be returning to the NASL and I believe Puerto Rico FC and FC Edmonton are ineligible, so we are left with only 6 NASL teams. Changes below: 1st Round = 44 Amateur Teams (14 USASA clubs, 15 NPSL clubs and 15 PDL clubs)*. 2nd Round = 22 First Round Winners + 14 USL clubs + 4 NASL clubs === 40 R2 teams. 3rd Round = 20 Second Round Winners + 2 USL Eastern Conference Finalists + 2 USL Western Conference Finalists + 2 NASL Finalists === 26 R3 teams. 4th Round = 13 Third Round Winners + 19 MLS Clubs === 32 R4 teams. *I'm positive that at least 11 USASA clubs will be chosen for the local qualifying round. The USSF might add more teams. MLS = 19 (all in R4). NASL = 6 (2 Finalists in R3, other 4 in R2). USL = 18 (4 from Conference Finals in R3, other 14 in R2). NPSL = 15 (all in R1). PDL = 15 (all in R1). USASA = 14 (all in R1).
That's possible. However your number for the NASL is off. The NASL has 6 teams eligible: Miami, Jacksonville, NCFC, Cosmos, Indy, San Francisco. Edmonton and Puerto Rico cannot play in the U.S. Open Cup. EDIT: You corrected that while I was posting. Also, the the USL conference finalists from last year include 3 MLS2 teams that are not eligible. You would have to dig deeper into those conferences to get 4 teams for the bye. You keep referring to the USASA. I guess that you mean the teams coming out of the USSF Qualifying tournament. I don't think those are all USASA teams. That tournament has 18 teams left so the USSF certainly has some flexibility on how many of those teams get into the tournament proper.
Local qualifying teams are considered USASA teams. There are currently 18 teams in the third qualifying round and I believe there will be at least 8 pairings with 3 other teams qualifying directly for the first round proper due to their distance from other opponents. So the minimum will be 11 teams from USASA or at most 14. 1. GPS Omens (MA)...might receive bye 2. FC Motown (NJ) vs Christos FC (MD) 3.Tartan Devils Oak Avalon (PA) vs. Junior Lone Star FC (PA) 4. Boca Raton FC (FL) vs. Red Force FC (FL) 5. Minneapolis City SC (MN)...might get bye 6. NTX Rayados (TX)...might get bye 7. Azteca FC (CO) vs. Colorado Rush (CO) 8. Anahuac FC (NV)...might get bye 9. Moreno Valley FC (CA) vs. Chula Vista FC (CA) 10. Outbreak FC (CA) vs. El Farolito (CA) 11. La Máquina FC (CA) vs. LA Wolves FC (CA). Regarding the Finalists from both USL Conferences, spots for byes can go directly to the eligible teams that made the playoffs (whether conference semifinalits or quarterfinalists).
Huh? I don't think that is the case. Harpo's got knocked this year in the qualifying tournament but they play in a league sanctioned by United States Specialty Sports Association. They were in the Open Cup last year representing that organization. San Francisco City now in the PDL was also in the Open Cup last year representing U.S. Club Soccer. I don't know about all the remaining teams this year but they are not necessarily USASA teams. http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2015/06/18/09/23/150618-usoc-2016-amateur-qualifying-format-rel The USSF said this when they set up the qualifying tournament: That would seem to indicate that they are not all USASA teams. We shall see. Last year the USSF cancelled the final rounds of the Qualifying tournament and just let all of the teams remaining into the Open Cup. I think the number of Qualifying tournament teams that get in will be determined by how the USSF sets up the tournament.
What I meant was that all the remaining teams in the Local qualifying Round this year applied as USASA clubs. During the application, clubs were required to select which organization (USASA, USSSA, USCS) they were affiliated with. Looking at thone clubs remaining, it's safe to say that they will be representing USASA even though few of them might be playing in the NPSL during the season but they won't be considered an NPSL team. Well, I hope the USSF will allow all 18 teams through but I heard that they wanted to reduce the amount of Amateur teams.
Well, that certainly is an interesting interpretation. That if you switch leagues, you break your original USSF affiliation to get a new affiliation, so you can't continue in the competition as a "constant" affiliate. Another confusion caused by the centralized qualifying process, which was supposed to eliminate these problems. And as a Midwesterner, I again have to point out that USSF finds these ways to discourage Midwest teams from playing. (It's as if USSF just wants these "regional" leagues to dissolve, and only have PDL - NPSL as any kind of inter-state leagues.) However, that last line about challenging the winner to a match-up of "undefeated" clubs is a bit over-smarmy.
http://www.americanpyramidblog.com/home/minneapolis-city-disqualified-from-the-us-open-cup Minneapolis City is out of the U.S. Open Cup. Because we switched leagues from the Premier League of American (PLA) to the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), we violate Section 202 rule C1a. It is a heartbreaking way to be bounced from the tournament. It is outrageously unfair. This offseason has been famous for the upheaval in professional soccer: Minnesota United leave NASL for MLS, Tampa Bay Rowdies leave NASL for USL, New York Cosmos fail and then are saved, and on and on. For all that upheaval, the professional teams remain eligible. We stay at the same level of the pyramid, leaving one league for another to help manage our travel costs, and we are out. How? The rules are skewed toward the professional teams.
http://www.flakoglost.com/ did an interview with John Motta, head of the USASA. He is also on the open cup board. Mentioned in the interview that 1. the 2 DIV 2 leagues will start in the same round 2. There will be 56 amateur teams that start in the first round. With this information, I believe that the open cup will look as follows. 1st round : 56 amateur teams ( 17 open div, 21 PDL, 18 NPSL) 2nd round: 28 winners plus 18 USL and 6 NASL 3rd round : 26 winners 4th round : 13 winners plus 19 MLS Straight knock out bracket from here till final. We have 18 winners of the 2nd round of qualifing. MPLS City getiting DQ'ed lowers that to 17. That leaves 39 teams from the NPSL and the PDL. I think that 21:18 is the best fit with what the ratio between the pdl and npsl had been the last two years.
Called it! In this thread back on January 8. I did some hedging on the exact setup for Round 1 but basically correct.
That's 99 clubs. It's too bad they were disqualified and the USOC won't have 100 clubs for what I'm assuming would be the first time.

Baltimore-based Christos FC, one of six amateur teams still alive in the 2017 U.S. Open Cup needs to raise $7,500 for its trip to Chicago for the third round and it's using fundraising platform GoFundMe. https://www.socceramerica.com/artic...tan-donates-to-christos-fc.html?edition=17237 Christos, a longtime USASA power making its first appearance in the Open Cup, beat the former Open Cup champion Richmond Kickers, 1-0, to set up a date at another amateur team, the PDL's Chicago FC United, on May 31. Players will have to take two days of work to travel to the game. As of Sunday night, Christos was close to reaching its goal of raising $7,500 for the airfare, hotel and other expenses.
