Surinam and Guyana are welcome to Conmebol !

Or maybe Venezuela can join the new CFU , and finally qualify to the World Cup ! ......

Anyone have any history on why Suriname and Guyana were initially considered part of CONCACAF instead of CONMEBOL? They are South American countries right?

they choose CONCACAF because CFU have same level of football like them (poor) :) What chances will they have againns Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Uruguay? 0 !! For example ... UEFA have same "problem" : Israel, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan. Asia have Australia.

Or, how will look an surinamese team in Copa Libertadores groups stage? :D I would like to see Surinam and Guyana in CONMEBOL, to increase the number of participants there .... but probably this will not happening.

Their culture and race is very close to and is practically part of Caribbean culture and race. Also, they were colonies of Netherlands and England just like many Caribbean countries so there's political reason too. There are ties stronger than (geographic) ties with Latin countries in South America. Also, their football quality is miles of quality of CONMEBOL members so they can do better in CONCACAF (CFU).

If breakaway happens, this would become the most interesting confederation in terms of WC qualification. They would get like one spot and there would be few teams of similar level (JAM, TTO, HAI, hopefully Suriname with changes in legislation) fighting for it. :D

The last time and maybe only time Suriname or Guyana played against a CONMEBOL member was in 2012

    Bolivia 2-0 Guyana ( Santa Cruz )
    Colombia 7-1 Guyana ( Bogotá )

Suriname and Guyana are in a weaker confederation than where they are geographically located. Israel, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Australia are in a stronger confederation than where they are georgraphically located.

Yes, you right .. but all these are competitive there. Israel, azerbaijan, kazakhstan, georgia have teams in Europa League groups stage ... even Champions League. Australia won AFC Champions League, now, what chances you give for surinamese clubs against brazilians? Don't understand me bad... i want these teams in CONMEBOL, but i see they never been there, from the begining they were Concacaf part and probabil will remain so ... or CFU confederation.
