The nine CFU Club Championships that qualified clubs to a CCL had 7 to 17 clubs (excluding clubs who withdrew) and an average of 13.3 clubs, so 20 clubs is an increase.

How will Finals work? 5-team group? Some second-placed team(s) qualify too?

Again, CFU's website is just shameful so as their PR. Not a single article on this. And they want to break away from CONCACAF. [IMG]

A 5 club group would require 5 matchdays (with every club having 1 matchday off), and I don't know if clubs would want to spend that long in one place. If I had to design the next round given that it starts with 5 groups of 4, I would advance 3 out of 5 second place teams. Then I would make 2 groups of 4 with the 2 winners qualifying (a championship game would be optional) and the 2 second place clubs playing a third place game for the last CCL spot. I agree that CFU doesn't do enough work on their website. On the top right it's easy to find the standings from last year's Caribbean Club Championship.

I would design it (qualification) the same way.

But, if what Nicaraguans officials posted on Facebook is true, CFU will have four berths - three in "Fall season" and one in "Spring season" (two if one of three wins "Fall" title). So I'd love to see two groups of four hosted in two locations with top two progressing to CCL with home/away playoff between group winners to determine CFU champion and "Sping season" berth.

I hope this will not happening. CONCACAF members are a little strange ... how can put 16 teams in first round to fight for only a place in next round against mexicans or MLS? In rest, look well .... only if first stage will be knock-out + second stage have 4 groups of 4 teams. Because i think (1) both phases can't have groups...and (2) will be a tragedy to noy see mexican clubs or MLS in groups (only in knock out, as Round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, final). In rest, is ok that we must wait these years to change this horrible format of 3 x 8... and this look like an expansion ... with 3 teams x Costa Rica, Honduras, Panama, Guatemala and El Salvador and is awesome. But, again I say ... this expansion must include more teams from mexico, mls and Canada to grow up. 6 mexicans, 6 mls and why not 2 or 3 from Canada? They have Voyager Cup ...they have MLS ... deserve more than a team in CCL ..especially when we see last results of canadians in competition. And don`t forget CFU ... some teams are competitive.

Racing des Gonaives wins group (same points as Inter, better goal differential by sole goal), qualifies to Final round.

Next up: groups B and C (1-5 March).

So if they would have had same GD, would they have just flipped a coin to decide who advanced?

Although Wikipedia doesn't list tiebreakers, goals scored is normally used after goal differential. Racing des Gonaives had 8 goals scored and 2 goals allowed. Inter Moengotapoe had 8 goals scored and 3 goals allowed. If you improved Inter Moengotapoe's goal differential by giving them one more goal, they would have more goals scored than Racing des Gonaives. If you improved Inter Moengotapoe's goal differential by giving them one fewer goal allowed, goals scored and goals allowed would have been tied.

Hosts Don Bosco drew 1-1 with USR of Guadeloupe.

In the other group, Dominican Republic champion Barcelona Atletico (funny name) defeated Elite of Cayman Islands 4-0. In the same group, a shocker, Montego Bay lost at home to Grenades of Antigua and Barbuda. They are currently #4 in Jamaica (other representative, Waterhouse, is #5 after 23 games).

So, Dominican Republic league is rocking while two former 3rd placed teams and CL contestants (Montego 3rd in 2015, Bosco in 2016) are in tough positions.

    Don Bosco 11 - 0 Police
    Cibao 1 - 0 USR
Next Match is Don Bosco vs Cibao. A draw will see Cibao advance to the next round

    Grenades 2 - 2 Barcelona Atlético
Montego Bay United 5 - 0 Elite SC
Grenades should rain goals on Elite SC

I assume 5 goals margin will be enough for Grenades.

We might see six teams from six countries in final stage. And no Jamaican teams. :D

Cibao qualifies after 1-1 draw vs Don Bosco, biggest achievement by Dominican club.

Police of Montserrat finished with three losses: 0-16, 0-11, 0-16.

Grenades also qualified. They defeated their opponent by just two goals, but MoBay took point off Barcelona (two goals in last 10 minutes to make it 2-2) to help Antiguan side go through.

At least one team will make their CL debut.

    ^^^ No.

San Juan Jabloteh wins its group and qualifies to final stage.

    One preliminary group left.

Puerto Rico and Portmore started their group with wins. They face each other on last day, what should be proper final.

    Puerto Rico website says:
"...Each of the winners of the five groups will move on to the Caribbean final along with last year’s champions Central FC. All six teams will face each other in a round robin in which the winner will earn a direct pass..."

Schedule announced before was wrong  so Puerto Rico faced Portmore last night. Jamaicans scored in the 90th minute and won 1-0. Transvaal easily defeated Scholars.

Going into last matchday (Puerto Rico - Scholars, Transvaal - Portmore) we have these scenarios:
    if Portmore win or draw, they qualify (most points);
    if Transvaal win by two goals or by one goal, but scoring at least two (2-1, 3-2...), they qualify (best head-to-head if all teams finish with 6 pts, better head-to-head than Portmore if PRFC don't win);
if Puerto Rico win by five or more and Transvaal defeat Portmore exactly 1-0, they qualify (best goal-difference as all three teams would have 3 pts and 1-1 goal-difference in head-to-head; it is their only way to qualify).

    Final six:
Central United, San Juan (Trinidad and Tobago)
    Cibao (Dominican Republic)
    Grenades (Antigua and Barbuda)
    Portmore United (Jamaica)
    Racing (Haiti)
