at the beach rite now...(missed the game the other nite)...but I will definitely go on assignment for you when I get back.
And I hope not, as that would be even further for me. Unless they have a location in uptown there's no point in moving again until Memorial unless they absolutely have to. And I hope no one thought I was being negative in my initial post, I was simply pointing out how last night was more evident than ever Rwood is a temporary location and nothing more. The packed stadium shows there are fans in the area, just need a better location and this team still has crazy potential.
Finally back into the win column last night with a dominant showing, hope this starts a run of good form.
Nice looking stadium. the stone element is interesting. It would be interesting to see more details. 22-25 mil doesn't seem cheap considering no luxury suites, no roof, no parking, land costs nothing, retail will be mostly food trucks and such. I guess much of the price goes into saving the outer wall / renovation. If they could just tear it down and rebuild, it might be cheaper.
http://www.bizjournals.com/charlott...e-independence-looking-for-mls-investors.html Surprising thats they lose 2 million a year...

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/article93330232.html http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/article121184193.html Charlotte has a billionaire owner, now we just have to get a stadium plan together and boom.
Correction, Charlotte has billionaires with MLS aspirations. And probably aspirations more realistic than the independence. So if anything this might be bad news for the Indepedence.
Better choice of words, I admit my post lacked accuracy due to anxiety caused by this entire situation. The Smith's definitely have the bank to make things happen. As you mentioned the biggest questions now are whether the Independence are apart of their plans and whether they can put together a bid, including a stadium deal, that puts us in slot 27 or 28.
I do feel that the current organization should at least be purchased by the new group because it was the Independence that light the fuse on this whole "MLS2CLT" thing. Personally I would like a better club name regardless, something like my screen name on here and a Dark Green color scheme with a crossed sash for the home kit...lol
My guess is that from the tweets from both groups, they are not working together and the Smiths have no intention of doing so.
Yes I think the Smiths are a bullish bunch, they have been the same way about their desire to acquire the Panthers. They'll probably let the Independence die a slow death, if I'm the current owner of the Independence I would at least try to push the fact that he would be offering an already put together USL playoff team that the Smiths could rebrand and relocate as they see fit. I believe a lot of potential supporters have a bad taste in their mouth from the Independence's short existence and, a new brand would have a better chance at catching on with the city.
This is true. There are some people who straight up dislike the team now. The Memorial thing stuck in a lot of people's craw, I know it's not entirely their fault and that some blame lies with the city and the county, but knowing that there were that many moving parts they shouldn't have promised the moon. It took the Knights years to secure that old paper factory across from BoA and the Knights are a known commodity, and a beloved part of Charlotte (really, ask people what they think of Homer and they start grinning, he's part of the city's fabric). I don't know. The team just doesn't move the needle for me now. I'm not accusing him of giving up because I know he hopes the best for Charlotte soccer, but the fact that Zach stopped doing Crown Town Soccer says a lot. He cares about the sport here, wants to see it do well and invested a lot of time, money, and energy into that project. What about the people who don't care that much? The people who "want" an MLS team but aren't willing to lay asphalt for one? I feel like that's what seperates Charlotte from the Cincys, Sacramentos, and San Antonios. They're willing to sweat, Charlotte seems to want it to fall into its lap. I know that's a sweeping indictment, and that it's unfair to some of y'all who are out there evangelizing and working, and I appreciate and respect y'all, but you've got to admit your numbers are scant. Maybe Bruton can fix it, hopefully, but maybe it's not meant to be.
Woah. Big news this morning. City officials are discussing a proposal to bulldoze Memorial Stadium for Grady Cole to build an MLS stadium. It would seat 19,000
I thought they recently said they were backing off any deal with the Independence to build at Memorial?
Neither side is stating they are working with the other (Indy and Marcus Smith). So far seems the city is going all in on the Smith's proposal. Feel for the Indy group but at the same time as wanting to be competitive for MLS they let their merch site domain expire around the holiday's. And the one they posted relaunched is a template of a shopping site. Still things that make me shake my head from an ops perspective. Love our club on the field but I don't see the Indy group getting competitive in this race against the Smith's. Best case is they find a reason to partner and the Queen City Soccer Club name can be used for any MLS bid.
Oh so this is the next level. Apparently the city and county are abandoning the Independence and working with the Smiths on the memorial stadium redevelopment. Ouch http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/politics-government/article124734829.html
You would have to think that McPhilliamy is involved in some way, considering his MLL team plays there and would be out of a home.
And I thought MLS required "City Name" to be a part of every team's moniker. I'm telling you Charlotte Town is the way to go man. Green and white with a crossed sash kit (white pants). Maybe even a Carolina blue clash or third.
That was the USL rule when we entered because the Independence was originally going to come in as QCSC. But Chivas USA? Might have changed since, but first example I came up with.
Very true, the Hounds would most likely just be tenants. If I'm McPhilliamy I would be doing everything I could to ride the Smith's bandwagon, set me up with a good support system for my current USL team (that I can move somewhere else within the Metrolina area as a "2" team) and get my MLL team an upgraded home at a decent rate. I'm sure he will try to get as many of those 20 free dates as he can for himself. But you have to consider the big HSFB games that have been a staple at that location for a long time as well.
