why do Championship games always seem to have poor quality at least compared to the PL coverage?

Full highlights from against Preston in midweek are below. It looks like he was swapped from left back to right back during the game.

The lost 2-0 at home to Wolves yesterday. Lichaj went the distance. He was back at left back. Eric was beat on the dribble in the box by the goal scorer on the first goal. The finish was from a tight angle though.

Lichaj earned the captain's armband, and apparently he had a good match, plus is on a good run of form in spite of often playing out of position at LWB, but Forest themselves have dipped and are barely above the relegation zone. I think he feels some loyalty at this point, but he really should think about putting in a transfer request. Forest gets closer to being relegated than promoted year after year.

Does he have interest? Transfer request is kinda stupid without it.

Yes, and "putting in a transfer request" is not how things work these days, if they ever really worked like that since the 1970s. Too close to burning your bridges for anyone's comfort.

If Eric wants a move, his agent will make a few calls and put the word out to that effect with clubs that are looking for a guy who can play both full-back positions. If anyone is interested, they'll put in an offer and, with his contract up in June, it won't be very high. It's against the rules, strictly speaking, but it happens all the time and the clubs have given up fighting it long ago.

These days, putting in a formal transfer request only happens if the player is determined to force a particularly attractive move to one club. In Eric's case, that would be an EPL club or Brighton or Huddersfield coming in with an offer. Not sure I see it. More likely he moves on in June on a Bosman.

    Just agreeing.

He's a decent player - he'd have to be to be a regular in the English D2 - but I've never seen anything special either, and neither has anybody else - the local paper once described him as "a solid, hard-working, no nonsense defender" - and it's the bit special that attracts transfer bids. If nobody's seen that bit extra at 28, then you'd have to say he's reached his level.

BTW, there's no criticism there. He's made the most of his talent and had a rewarding career - he earns at least 10k Sterling a week, as opposed to maybe $150-200k a year in MLS. Pity guys like Brek Shea and Jaun Agudelo didn't have a bit more of his attitude

Lost 2-0, but some interesting notes. Gets fouled late in the game, demands to take the penalty. Misses it but is getting massive praise from the fans for his effort. Gives it all every game and displays captain qualities...

Regaining strong form is good news ahead of wc qualifiers in March. Both our rb and lb positions are thin and tenuous right now. He can cover us at both positions and possibly start if need be. He's started in big games before, like at the '11 GC, although the final didn't work out so well once he switched sides.

Forest win 1-0 over Bristol to break their winless skid at 8. Lichaj started at right back. Always helps to play in your favored position. Kept his good form up with a WS rating of 7.4 and positive reviews. Will be surprised if he's not part of the next WC qualifying roster.

He's still under contract. Sounds like he's pretty loyal and he'll ride it out with Nottingham if he/they don't get blown away by an offer. Imagine it would have to come from a low-level EPL team not MLS because they don't pay a premium for fullbacks. Maybe he'd go to his hometown of Chicago when he's on a free. But his wife is English, he's family-oriented, and they may nab Spector since he's on a free a year earlier, from the area too, and they have the need now.

Saw much of his match today. Thought he played well, again. Very poised, sensible, anticipatory defending. Snuffed out attacks before they happened.

Had one particularly good sequenced where he chested down to the keeper when most would have panicked and played out for a corner or at least side out. Then he immediately peeled out to be an option for the keeper and start the counter attack. Received the ball, got ahead of the Villa front, and then was hacked down. Resulted in a yellow and sending off for their player, putting Forest up a man.

Throughout the game his touch was secure, passing was tidy, occasionally got to the touch line or into the box to create a half chance with a shot or cross. Ultimately Forest won at the death, 2-1, on the volley by the teenage academy boy Ben Brereton.

As an aside, fellow American Gboly Ariyibi, was not part of the squad yet.
