I think that, with Nico, he could have waited. The positive could be (we can't be sure) that he'll get some continuity in his game. But, he has the quality to play in one of the big four of Europe.

In relation to our other forwards, I just hope that Edu Vargas heads back to Brazil and stays there.

There must be something that appeals to them. Otherwise, why go there? I'm assuming the generous salaries for overseas players is a factor; 'generous' relative to what most South Americans will get outside of Brazil.

I think that the UCL will continue to set the standard and serve as an indicator of the most likely teams capable of winning the world cup, as was the case in 06, 10 and 14. Chile needs its core group of world class players to play UCL football for big clubs if a realistic attempt is to be made in 2018.

Some of the guys who leave Europe prematurely should try to play in Brazil, which still boasts top level football. I had hoped that Turboman return to Gremio, for example, after his European spell.

For me, NT-level players should not head to Mexico. If it's just an above-average player who at best would be a bench option for Chile, then I don't mind.

In Brazil most players get paid scraps, compared to what they can get in Mexico.

Besides, given their top level status, at the slightiest decrease in playing level by players, they get completely discarded (not even making it to the bench). Something that at Mexico, hardly ever happens, as at their league, big name players are the ones who will "sell" more tickets.

Brazilian league, gives more importance to playing level.
Mexican league, is only about money.

    You've cherry-picked here, it seems.

Players will get paid, as you say, "scraps" in Brazil compared to Mexico, where even European players like André-Pierre Gignac will play. Even recently, Keisuke Honda left AC Milan to play there at 31, still with enough value to have remained in Europe or in another top league elsewhere.

    So, I get that point.

What I inferred was that (1) professional non-Brazilian footballers in South America (not "most players") are likely to earn more in Brazil than in other parts of South America, on average, and that (2) this is all relative, as Mexico sets the standard for Latin America in this aspect.

I just realised that three of Chile's six registered forwards for the last Confederations Cup play in Mexico:

    - Eduardo Vargas (Tigres UANL, México)
    - Edson Puch (Necaxa, México)
    - Martín Rodríguez (Cruz Azul, México).

Both of those players you mentioned play in Mexico, not in Brazil, which confirms what I posted before. At Mexico's league, there is more money for those interested in it, than whatever south or central american country can offer (and this also includes Brazil).

On average, after Mexico, the league that pays the most to players from diferent nationalities, comes our chilean league. Unfortunately, our league is no where even close to any of the top leagues of the continent, when it gets to the level of the game played.

At Brazil only the few top teams there, which are no more than at most, 10 diferent teams, are those which can show a better economic situation than ours, where player's get paid lots more than what they do in other countries. But to be accepted there, you have to be very good (among the top players from their countries, as well). Average foreign players have no place in the brazilean diferent leagues, as the brazilian average players which are counted by the thousands in Brazil, are all at a higher level than those average players from elsewhere.

So for any player willing to play at Brazil, their level must be very high to think in being accepted there, and in most cases players must also be willing to accept getting paid less than what they would win back here or at other places, so not many players are up to the challenge it represents going there. But with no doubts, playing in Brazil for football players, is like going to a football college, where you go basicly to learn how to be better. So most of the times, only younger players give it a try, as a future investment.

For any experienced player, which only might have a few more years on his back to play actively in pro football, will decide to go to where they will get better paid, as those wages might probably be the last that they will win in their short footballing careers. So they prefer more lucrative markets, and Mexico in the region beats them all.

In any case, for any young player whom has big dreams in playing for the world's top teams, going to Mexico, is almost like a final destination as a football player for them, as not many of the big teams from Europe, scout for players in Mexico. Big european clubs, when it gets to scouting for players, only have eyes for south american talent, which comes basicly from Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.

    You missed Angelo Sagal (Pachuca)

And among those whom didn't make the list, there are also others whom also play in Mexico (Castillo and Mora), which somehow proves that Pizzi loves and looks very dearly, the mexican league.
