That would be very commendable - but from a strict soccer viewpoint, it would probably be players whose absence is affordable. If that occurred, it'd be huge in terms of goodwill.

Just saying if those are the players sent the club will cease to be a first division club. The teams status is important for the city. Teams can disappear in Brazil or go practically in exile. See Portuguesa for a recent example. Sao Caetano as well.

I gotta say, "fraternidade sul-americana" is shining through right now. Atlético Nacional's website has notes of condolences in Spanish and in Portuguese, and its player-based declaration that the title be given to Chapecoense is class. It's not just that team; Colombia's press is all over this and they are showing support - look at the image below from El Colombiano.

Argentina has responded in kind. It suspended a trip to Uruguay by its U-20 squad, and all of its teams - all levels - will play the next round with black armbands. AFA has issued a statement of condolences, and its teams observed a minute of silence before training sessions.

Chilean soccer has also expressed support. Universidad de Chile and Universidad Católica observed a minute of silence before training today.

The saddest part aside from the obvious crash itself, is the context of this. Chapecoense worked so hard the last few years for their town of Chapeco and right when they reached the peak of what they worked for, the whole team passes away. Atletico Nacional have been my Colombian side for years and now I like them even more. What a great club they are.

Mi mas sentido pesame a la familia de los victimas y todo el pueblo de Chapeco. Voce e o campeao.

I've become an Atl. Nacional fan after seeing this team's sportsmanship and compassion. And this from a Brazilian who was outraged while watching Brazil vs. Colombia in 2014. If my team or Brazilian teams aren't involved, I will root for Nacional in cup competitions going forward - starting with the upcoming Copa Mundial de Clubes in Japan.

As far as I'm concerned, Atletico Nacional are also champions for the act. They had a chance to complete a rare continental double, but put their pride aside and made a very honorable decision. If you ask me, Atletico Nacional are continental double champs no matter what happens.

If they defeat Real Madrid, I imagine some of these guys will remember Chapecoense - they have no obligation to do so, but I think they'll do it anyway. They've earned my respect.

Sin duda muy triste, devastado por todo esto.
CHapecoense iba en busca de la gloria, y quedaron en la eternidad
Y muy bonito el gesto de Atletico Nacional de cederles el titulo en honor.

I haven't seen it anywhere. Having said that, let's be cool and rational. Too much is happening too fast.

Brazilian clubs already want to loan players to Chape for free; very commendable, and now, PSG from France supposedly donated 40 million Euros. If Chape gets that kind of money, after giving a good amount to the families, would it need 22 free players?

Much to be sorted out in the next few days and weeks. And anybody saying that should be ashamed of themselves, but again, let's wait until proof comes out.

Estaba viendo el partido en vivo de la semifinal y fue increíble la tapada de Danilo sobre el final a Angeleri, y verlos festejar por pasar a la final de una copa internacional...

Qué mierda fue despertarse con esta noticia.
