his effort and work ethic is still there.... how many guys would have not had pressure that defensive back, Zaza took a gamble that he would pass back and then ran into position to intercept, when that did not happen,

he sprinted after him and actually recovered the ball..... then he took it down and played a ball with good pace that would have been good for a first touch shot...

He just put too much on it, most forewards would not have put on that pressure and would have also just played a lazy slow ball outside allowing the defense to somewhat reset...

I really hope he ends up coming back to Juve... its obvious he is off form over there, maybe he has is not getting along with guys and its affecting his play, or maybe he is just adjusting.

Its strange watching EPL fanboys sweat Ibra so much despite him being quite lazy to the point he puts in pickup game effort, but they will all throw shade at Zaza.

Also.. I have previously brought up how i thought it was perplexing that Zaza was called up and not Gio, that doesnt not mean I rate one over the other, Zaza actually produced for Juve and its clear something is off...

On another note, I find it kinda harsh we bash Zaza for the miss pk, the run up was terrible.... but it was his first touch in a sink or swim situation and he did just put too much on the kick, it would have been a goal if he used more finesse.... He prob felt overmatched facing a keeper off that quality and felt that not having any scout video of him taking a pk would help especially with a very slow run up... He was prob also nervous as hell coming into that situation. Cold feet for 120 minutes until that situation.

Pelle on the other hand was the one who really did a blunder with his call out to Nuer... I get what he is trying to do, but compare how a guy like Pirlo handled himself when he did the Panenka pk with substance over aesthetic where as Pelle was "style over substance".... Pelle also pouted when he was subbed and Zaza visibly showed he was very distraught at missing that pk....

Zaza is a mediocore professional footballer to me with an moderate to occasional penchant for scoring... he however does run like nonstop, almost at Gattuso level of work ethic in my eyes.... maybe im overrating him tho... but work ethic is never a bad thing.

at the very least, it says to better players... if you dont put in the proper amount of work and running on the field, I got a guy who is ready to do it every time. It's good pressure for the starters to have as a monkey on their back.

He litteraly helped us advance in the Euros when things looked grim.

He played Zaza for 3 minutes because clearly he's sending a message that Zaza is next in contention if one of the other guys gets injured/dropped.

So yes i agree with you that it was done to encourage/motivate Zaza rather than for tactical purposes within the context of the game.

 

He's just having some fun, like both our teams were today. No one really wanted to win. Just be nice to each other by not scoring. That's all.

It's great to see Italy play with a flowing haired defender again (Romagnoli). Reminds me of the days of Nesta and Maldini. Too many shaved heads and short haired defenders for the azzurri lately, e.g. Cannavaro, Bonucci, Chiellini, Barzagli, Paletta (lol), Ogbonna, some other dusters.
