Actually Gooch started out as a forward in his youth, so that makes a little more sense. But yeah, putting a big CB up top for the last few minutes is nothing new. Miazga just did that last week for Vitesse.
this guy should def be planting his flag as a starer. Brooks for sure has the spot. But Gonzalez should be able to beat out Besler and is at least as good as Cameron.
I'm a Gonzo fan, but he's behind Cameron. As defenders, I find them more or less interchangeable. But with the ball at feet, Cameron is more than a couple notches superior.

He was subbed out mid second half this weekend. Man for man sub once the victory was locked in. He's having a weaker season than the last. Can't afford to make mistakes with a coach like Alonso. He'll bench your ass for a youth player even if it's risky. We've probably had the most debuts under his tenure than any other coach in their first 3 seasons. Can't remember someone who played this many youths. We're in second place btw. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Can't believe I'm the only one here that remembers this . . . . IIRC, that won the Big Soccer YA Forum "Goal of the Year" award (which was handed out for several years when someone super organized (and damn good-looking too!) was in charge of the now-defunct YA Goal Scorers List). I've always thought that it's a better strategy that you first think - notice how he jumps with his hands up. At first, it looks like he's going to catch the ball. Field players don't jump that way, only keepers. I think it gave him an advantage in leaping.
Didn't watch except the few last minutes but they allowed 4 in. Not good, although the pitch was absolute shit.
So interesting that with such an opportunity in front of goal with only a GK in front of him he decides to pass back and not take a shot. I think if he just touches the ball forward it goes in since goalie was just throwing himself out there. I guess that is why he is a CB.
Not entirely his fault but dude was caught sleeping on that second Cruz Azul goal. We're used to controlling the games for so long, sometimes they get caught cold.
BTW where does he stand right now in the pecking order. He's a RCB so he's not competing with Brooks who I'm assuming has his starting spot sealed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He's probably 2nd or 3rd choice for JK. However, I wish JK would just play 2 left-footed CB's. Besler would be a better choice to me than Gonzo.
I'd imagine he's probably the #2 RCB overall behind Cameron, but may be #3 depending on how Klinsmann feels about Birnbaum's form. Either way I think he's in our top 4 CBs as far as depth goes once important matches come along. If Klinsmann decides to play Cameron at CM (where he plays with Stoke), then I think Omar moves up into the starting line-up discussion depending on who we're playing against. I expect Cameron and Brooks to play CB during most qualifiers.

We're out. He had a weaker tournament than the last. Doesn't look that confident on the ball as of late. We have a good team overall, don't expect any major signings. I think any signings right now would be young players from second division or from one of our feeder teams.
Dreadful by both CBs on that Leon goal. Murrillo taking too long to decide to go and tackle or recede and Omar giving the striker like 2 meters by staying hella far behind the offside line.
