From what it sounds like, the coach convinced her that Chelsea was aiming for Champions League success and putting pieces in place to achieve that so she agreed to stay. To be honest, I was surprised that any NWSL teams were even in the discussion. I figured her next move would be to a big German or French club. Going to NWSL would mean a paycut over what she makes at Chelsea and a fraction of what she could get paid in Germany or France. NWSL would make her a better player, but is she willing to take a paycut for that?

Just found out that Genoveva Anonma is playing for Suwon FMC this year. Great addition. She struggled last year in NWSL with Portland Thorns, but tore it up in Germany with Turbine Potsdam prior to that. She will score a lot of goals.

Incheon Hyundai Red Steel Angels striker, Beatriz (Known as 비야 in Korea), was on fire for Brazil today. Scored a brace against Sweden.

Is WK-League the CSL of women's football? I am not too familiar with women's club football except what I read from this forum. It seems WK league teams sign(ed) players who end up representing Brazil NT...

By that you mean China Super League? Lord no. There are two players on Hyundai Steel Red Angels (Beatriz and Thais) who have started seeing some time with the Brazilian WNT. Both are good players, but neither is among the best Brazilians. Brazil itself is mediocre-ish national team. Never been further than the QF's of the World Cup. Have won a couple of silver medals at the Olympics.

Those two players are by far and away the best foreign players in WK-League. From there you have a steep drop-off in foreign talent. Mostly you get second rate Australians and African or South American players. The two Brazilians are paid more than anybody else on Red Angels (which is the best financially backed team in WK=League and the most successful) which means they are paid $55k per season while the top Korean players on the team make about $35k per season.

The Chinese women's league is about to be the CSL of Asian women's football. Starting to throw a lot of money around to get top foreign talent to come play there.

My pleasure. One thing I got wrong though (should have gone back to my notes from discussions with WK-League players first!). Red Angels, which have one of the best salary structures in the league, have 5 pay grades. Max base salary for Korean players on the team last year was KRW 50 mil. Lowest was KRW 12 mil. The foreign players got another KRW 10 mil over the max Korean salary, so KRW 60 mil.

This pay structure is devised and used by Red Angles, and not imposed by WK League. Am I correct?

Correct. Every team has their own structure. Red Angels is the highest as Hyundai Steel has traditionally provided more financial support than anybody else. As you might imagine given they are always the main competitor to Red Angels, Daekyo Kangaroos is next up.

Suwon FMC has been splashing some cash for foreign players in recent times. This year they brought in Gema Simon, a decent Australian fullback. They signed Genoveva Anonma from Equitorial Guinea who had a great stretch with Turbine Potsdam in Germany before going to NWSL with Portland Thorns last year where she flopped and was waived. She was fairly poor for Suwon this year in what was a pretty sub-par season for them. For next year, they have already signed Jennifer Skogerboe who spent half the season with Portland Thorns this year. She is pretty mediocre so not sure it is a good signing for them. They had discussions with an Australian friend of mine but she couldn't make the schedule work out with her other activities. I know they offered her more than she was making in NWSL.

    WK League 2017

Picking up the thread again for 2018. But first, here's a potted history of the season we kinda missed.

The new team of Gyeongju were added to make an 8-team league in 2017. Another new move was Friday night matches.

Sadly, it was Icheon Daekyo's final season, as the team was disbanded - the players only heard the news from journalists. Icheon were replaced after 2017 by Changnyeong.

A few match videos, starting with the season opener:

Incheon Hyundai Steel v Gumi Sportstoto, 14 Apr 2017 loud highlights
인천현대제철 vs 구미스포츠토토(2017.4.14) 하이라이트 (or full match vid)

A hard-fought game from round 18 in July:

Suwon Facility v Icheon Daekyo, 24 Jul 2017 (kickoff @12.00 mins)
    수원시설 vs 이천대교 : WK리그 18R Full - 2017.7.24

The highest-scoring match of the season:

Incheon Hyundai Steel v Hwacheon KSPO, 21 Aug 2017 highlights
    인천현대제철 vs 화천KSPO : WK리그 19R 하이라이트 - 2017.8.21

After the regular season had ended, the first playoff game was a battle of 2nd v 3rd to take a place in the final:

Icheon Daekyo v Hwacheon KSPO, playoff, 13 Nov 2017 (kickoff @24.30 mins)
플레이오프 이천대교 vs 화천KSPO : WK리그 PO - 2017.11.13

The final was a 2-leg match over a few days in November.

You can skip to see the TENSE CONTROVERSY of the final 1st leg, or watch the whole thing:

Hwacheon KSPO v Incheon Hyundai Steel (1st leg), 17 Nov 2017
    화천KSPO vs 인천현대제철 : WK리그 챔프1차전 - 2017.11.17

Incheon Hyundai Steel v Hwacheon KSPO (2nd leg), 20 Nov 2017
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivoI-FihzXQ

The 2nd leg kickoff was greeted by unexpected loud explosions of fireworks, which probably wasn't the most welcome sound in 2017. The match was followed by the trophy presentation.

Ah, forgot to mention. Here's something you don't see every day...

Free kick by Suwon goalie Kim Min Jung (김민정), who has become the number 24 for Incheon Hyundai Steel in 2018. Apparently, she was an outfield player until about 2013.

^ Not a clip from Footballers Say The Weirdest Things – you get some funny subtitles using 2 kinds of glitchy technology (voice recognition and auto-translate).

I'll post matches soon, unless someone else does it sooner. :) It's taken 3 months just to try and understand those subtitles. It'd be quicker to learn Korean...
