Snip: Oguchi Onyewu made his name as one of the most imposing defenders to ever play for the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team, and now after his retirement in 2014, he’s trying to tackle the Richmond fitness scene. Onyewu and partner Chris Gorres are launching Onyx Elite, a sports performance training facility that will set up shop in 10,000 square feet within the 150,000-square-foot U-Turn Sports facility on Maywill Street, near Willow Lawn. http://richmondbizsense.com/2016/11...r-to-open-training-facility-near-willow-lawn/
Last spotted at a Tampa Bay Rowdies event: Jake Nutting @jakenutting 6 Dec 2016 Oguchi Onyewu at tonight's Rowdies event. Not entirely sure why yet. Bill Edwards gave him a shout out on the stage, though. How awesome would it be if Bruce called in Gooch for Camp Cupcake, just to break in the rookies?
Gooch now "training" (not trialing) with Philadelphia Union: So Onyewu is just training I'm told. Already has a personalized "O2" Union hat. pic.twitter.com/elhP8MjcfA— Matthew De George (@sportsdoctormd) January 24, 2017
I mean he's younger than Jones and the same age as Beckerman. So he still might have another season or two in the tank. He really hasn't had any consistent playing time since before South Africa though. I really hope the Union didn't overspend on him just because he was a national teamer
What? That would be crazy. He shouldn't be paid anything more than 150k, tops. I also wonder about the length of the deal - might only last until the summer, to put him in the Euro transfer window once more.
i totally agree but Gooch has achieved the impossible with moves to certain clubs which might boggle the mind a tad. I'd really expect him to be paid no less then 300 K for this year
He did. In the 2012-13 season. Not sure that's in any way relevant to the 2017 MLS season. He ain't kicked a ball in anger sine February 7th 2015, when he was struggling to claim a place a the clusterf&*k that was - and still is - Charlton Athletic. It's a strange signing, but then his moves since he turned down Sheffield Wednesday's contract extension in 2014 have been strange anyway. Glad he's back, but I'll be interested to see how much PT he actually gets
