Looks like games that were postponed will take place on November 9 (Haiti vs Guyana) and 13 (St. Kitts vs Haiti & Jamaica vs Suriname). This will have to push back the 5th place games since they were supposed to take place November 9-15.
So, honest question: if the best the CFU can do for the final round now is Jamaica, Curaçao, Martinique and French Guiana, do they still have a realistic chance of breaking even if they hold it in the US? I'd say (assuming Jamaica win tonight) just host in in Montego Bay or Kingston and cut down on overhead.
Jamaica won 1:0 to win their group. Haiti won 2:0 after extra time, but lost the tiebreaker and was eliminated for being the worst second place team. Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, and Antigua and Barbuda will play in a three team group to determine fifth place. There are no upcoming matchdays that Trinidad and Tobago doesn't have Hexagonal games, so I think that group will be played when clubs don't have to release players.
If the French Caribbean territories had the funding and development that's provided to all FIFA members, I think they'd be doing a lot better than just qualifying for the Gold Cup. They'd probably be challenging for a World Cup spot.
Yesterday through Sunday - Haiti vs. Suriname up next tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. Eastern, then Trinidad and Tobago vs. Haiti on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Eastern. Trini station i95.5 fm is covering the games, although we might have to rely on a Haitian radio network like Total Mix Radio for tomorrow's match with T&T idle.
Haiti 4:3 Trinidad and Tobago (after extra time) Trinidad and Tobago led 1:0 and 2:1. It was 2:2 after regulation. Haiti scored in the 111th minute, Trinidad and Tobago scored in the 113th minute, and Haiti scored the game-winning goal in the 117th minute. Haiti finished fifth in CFU.
Final will be held in Martinique from June 22-25. http://www.cfufootball.org/index.ph...for-scotiabank-cfu-men-s-caribbean-cup-finals
Elson Hooi, who has 8 career Eredivisie goals, scored both of Curacao's goals. Florent Malouda, who used to play for France, now plays for French Guiana. He's age 37. He played for Lyon for four seasons and they won Ligue 1 all four times. Then he spent six seasons with Chelsea and they won one title. I wonder if he's the first player to play in the Caribbean Cup after having won five titles in top leagues.
Not sure if he played in the Caribbean Cup, but Jocelyn Angloma, a Champions League winner with Marseilles, played in the CONCACAF Gold Cup for Guadeloupe when they went on a very successful run in 2007.
He's the reason CONCACAF settled on requiring a five-year retirement from les Bleus for players to be eligible to represent a DOM-TOM team here. Funny story: my dad and I drove down from Gainesville to Miami to see Canada vs. Guadeloupe and Haiti vs. Costa Rica back in 2007. He had bought the tickets from a Haitian website...and the ticket rep only shows up at halftime of the first game! Even worse, he had the gall to tell us who made a six-hour drive there that he got stuck in traffic So yeah, I didn't see any of the goals in the first game in person
