I see the logic, but in practice it really feels like we're splitting hairs to distinguish between league matches and cup matches.
So, is Bob Bradley getting a promotion to Yanks Abroad? Or, are the French leagues considered too inferior?
Can I say I am enjoying the move to having an Academy sub-forum. Really has made following threads much easier. Curious if there has been more activity due to have a dedicated space for these players.
Yo - @bungadiri - this one's needed over in the main forum now. It's significant enough for that I think.
I get your point. This is big news (and I'm delighted for Bob Bradley.) However... With respect to coaching, significance has never been the issue. For that matter, significance has never been the issue for any of the decisions we made when we split between the main and academy forums. There are times when young, developing player threads are the most popular (and arguably therefore the most significant) in YA, but that's not going to move them to the Main forum. The split was made precisely to spread the popular threads out, using the additional space available on 2 "page ones" to make them more findable. There was no derogation intended at all in placing coaches in Academy. Which is a round-about way of saying that the thread stays here. I am genuinely sorry if that seems wrong to folks, but it's worked reasonably well so far.
Well, but but but... He is an American coach in a first division on a non scandanavian etc.. team. If there ever was a needed precedent, Bradley @ EPL Swansea is without question it.
I did a thread title search for it in this specific main YA forum, found nothing, so I started this thread. It turns out the problem is that the default Bob Bradley thread is still, after all this time, located in the YA Academy forum when it really should be moved over to this forum. (the primary YA forum).
Mods -- this needs to be moved over to the main YA forum. I started a thread on the Swansea appointment over there, but apparently this is the main Bradley thread (in the recesses of the Academy forum).
Y I would like to add my voice to those expressing dismay at the "rule" that Yank Abroad coaches are to be relegated to a (admit it) lesser page on BS, particularly in the current instance. Bob Bradley's promotion to Swansea is a big deal, bigger IMHO than CCV getting one game with Spurs. Something equivalent to BB's promotion has not previously happened to any American coach, to my knowledge. It is in a class its own and, at the very least, deserves more recognition in BS. The "rule" should be flexible, not rigid. Take a poll, if necessary. From a purely practical point of view, I'd rather have all YA big timers in the same location, whether they are players, coaches or front office types.
I agree. This is not the place for following Bradley's career at Swansea. I lean toward the YA Gameday thread so his tactics and selection can be discussed. However, it might be good to have a general thread dealing with the experience of the first American to coach in the EPL, and I would put that in Yanks Abroad. I didn't even know the Bradley Le Havre thread existed until I accidentally found it tonight.
I don't know about the other mods, but I have neither the time nor the inclination to police a floating system based on who qualifies as a YA big timer. I'm guessing it would be a non-stop pain in the neck that would involve more arguments in a month than this simple subdivision has since we implemented it. It would also explicitly bring into play the kind of judgment you and others are finding so objectionable when you mistakenly read it into the Academy vs regular forum assignments: this guy is more important than that guy. That was not the rationale for creation of the Academy forum and, as I said, there's no derogation intended by placing anyone's thread here. For more than a year, we had regular users raising their concerns with us that a single discussion forum had become cumbersome to use. After some discussion, this is what we settled on. This setup doesn't stop anybody from following Bob Bradley: This thread has been among the more active ones in YA since he started at Le Havre and there's nothing about its position in the Academy forum that prevents it from being an effective means for following his career at Swansea. I'd guess it's far more likely that this thread will stay on the front page of Academy (and therefore be easier to find) far more easily than it would in the regular forum.
The gameday forum is for threads about specific games. There's nothing stopping anyone from starting a thread for Swansea games, just as there was never anything preventing people from starting game-specific threads when Le Havre played or when Staebek played, for that matter.
I get your objections but, for the record, I don't believe for an instant that management would be more cumbersome or time-consuming. Nor, if implemented according to the apparent standards already in existence for players, would it invoke any kind of judgment about quality. Bob's case is a perfect example. He received a promotion to coach a first tier club just as CCV recently received a promotion to play for a first tier club. The logic is the same; the rule is the same. I simply do not see a problem. Besides, how many times has this issue ever arisen previously? Zero, to my knowledge. How many Yanks do you expect to move into head coach positions in first tier clubs during the next few years anyway? That's what it comes down to.
That's too reasonable. We can't go around having reason on BigSoccer. The site's reputation will be tarnished! I even had the best thread title ready - with loads of alliteration: "Saddest Swan Song - Bob Bradley Banished to YA Backwaters by Bungadiri, at Swansea" - rolls off the tongue right? Whenever issues like this come up I am always baffled as to why people don't use the watched threads function. You have the patience of a saint, @bungadiri
I think we are also at the point to consider a "YA Coaches" forum. Put the coaches and administrative folks in there and let people find something else to argue over.
I think Bob should have his own separate board in the USA section. The nepotism threads could be archived there as well.
That sound you just heard was me throwing my laptop out the window. Sent from bungadiri's ********ing Android
Thanks. And I'm happy to admit it if I'm wrong about something. If that were to ever happen of course.
