I see now. It was bound to happen eventually.... I will give him the point about MLS resources, but the beginning of their league season is a stretch, especially the second game.

Arabe Unido played their first game of the new season on July 16 (with a 2 month break from the previous season)

They played Monterrey in the CCL on August 17 (1 month and 5 games into the season)

and again played Monterrey in the CCL on Sept 14 (2 months and 9 games into the season)

MLS season starts in early March the CCL knockout starts in late February. (2 weeks before the MLS season starts and 0 games into the MLS season)

The CCL knockout games are literally preseason games for MLS teams.
(with a 3 or 4 month break from the previous season)

:) good luck! For the latest jersey, you'd have to go to Panama or pray someone is selling it on Ebay. You could try this store in Panama City (Official Sports Fan, phone # 507 3913708) and see if they'll ship it to you.

    Yesterday's scores:

Antigua Guatemala 0:0 New York Red Bulls
Dragon 1:2 Portland (Dragon scored first before Portland equalized in the 79th minute and scored the winning goal in the 90th minute)

In the eight complete Group Stages including seasons with groups of 3 and seasons with groups of 4, the best group winner has been from Mexico six times. The other two times were D.C. United in 2014-2015 and Marathon in the first Champions League in 2008-2009.

Is it just me or has Liga MX lost an abnormally high amount of games to Cental American opposition this year?

Honduras Progreso - Pumas UNAM 2:1
CF Monterrey - Arabe Unido 2:3
Arabe Unido - CF Monterrey 2:1
Plaza Amador - Tigres UANL 1:0

And the group stage has yet to conclude. The only one to avoid defeat so far is Pachuca.

No, Mexican clubs losing in Central America is pretty typical. What's new this year is 1) losing at home to a Panamanian side and 2) Panamanian teams being Mexico's main stumbling block, rather than Costa Rica or Honduras (shouldn't speak too soon - Olimpia can still drop Pachuca).

    Really exciting season.

Timbers are amazing group of players, they won two games (against same oppositon) with 90th minute goal. Amazing.

More amazing is the fact that five groups will be decided in last matchday with four home sides looking for a win to qualify. All of that if Honduras Progreso win their home game against William Connection tonight what they should.

Did Tuca send out the kids again?
Yes, it's not exactly uncommon but four losses to clubs not called Saprissa or Alajuelense?

Has that ever happened in the three team group stage? Paging @EvanJ

Using my system, Mexico's coefficient after 5 matchdays, year-by-year:

    2016-17: 6.750
    2015-16: 7.500
    2014-15: 6.375
    2013-14: 8.625
    2012-13: 7.125

Overall group stage losses, by year:
2016-17: Honduras Progreso (A), Arabe Unido (H), Arabe Unido (A), Plaza Amador (A)
    2015-16: Saprissa (A), San Francisco (A)
    2014-15: Real Espana (A), Chorrillo (A), Herediano (A)
    2013-14: Alajuelense (H), Alajuelense (A)
    2012-13: Xelaju (A)

If the CCL group stage ended today...

Vancouver Whitecaps (CAN) vs. FC Dallas (USA)
New York Red Bulls (USA) vs. Deportivo Saprissa (CRC)

    ---

CF Pachuca (MEX) vs. Tigres UANL (MEX)
Árabe Unido (PAN) vs. Honduras Progreso (HON)

Mind you, unless an unmotivated W Connection play the game of their lives in October, Pumas should jump over Honduras Progresso to win the group.

On another note: if FIFA's threatened suspension of the Guatemalan federation goes through, FC Dallas may win their group by default.

I read somewhere on here earlier today that the Guatemala issue has been settled without suspension. Don't know how true that is.

True, but even if we get three MEX teams in the QFs as we should, how even things are depends on whether you want to count USA and CAN as separate, or lump them together as MLS, especially considering preseason vs. midseason form. MLS HQ site will certainly trumpet the latter. It will certainly be interesting seeing what happens with the CPL.

I think I saw over in the MLS forum that the conflict was worked out and the games will be played as scheduled.

Yeah it was the B team. Their A team didn´t look impressive at all in the knochout stages earlier this year. Gignac ended up asking Oribe for an autograph in the end. :coffee:

Here's how the Top 4 seeds could come from 4 countries other than the USA:

    Vancouver finished with 12 points.
Arabe Unido draws or wins an easy game to finish with 10 or 12 points.
Olimpia wins by mutiple goals hosting Pachuca to win the head-to-head tiebreaker and wins their group with 9 points.
At least one of Tigres UANL and Pumas UNAM wins to finish with 9 points. If they both win, goal differential would determine which one of them got a Top 4 seed.
The three group winners with fewer than 9 points would be Deportivo Saprissa with 8 after a draw at Portland, the Red Bulls who are done playing, and FC Dallas or Suchitepequez who have 5 points each and can't finish with more than 8.

Árabe Unido could only beat Don Bosco 2-0, leaving them with 12 points and a +7 GD...1 behind Vancouver's +8. As it stands, the Whitecaps will be ranked #1 for the knockout round unless Pachuca win in Honduras tomorrow...

Tigres are on their way through. 2-0 after 35 minutes, and Herediano look completely overmatched.

If Vancouver gets the 1 seed, Canada will become the fourth country to have the best Group Stage club, including retroactively applying the current seeding to when there were 4 groups of 4 and a draw for the Knockout Rounds. The two non-Mexican clubs to be the best Group Stage club were Marathon in the first CCL in 2008-2009 and D.C. in 2014-2015.

    It ended 3:0.

Police United finished with a CCL record -22 goal differential. The previous worst was -21 by Puerto Rico Bayamon in 2014-2015.

Nope, Saprissa losses and they are out. 7 points for Saprissa to Portlands 9. They (Saprissa) are through with a tie or a win.

Is this Timbers' best XI? If not, who is missing?

We are basically missing our best RB (Heiner Mora) and CF (Fabrizio Ronchetti). The guy's that came in for them (Arauz and Blackburn) are not bad at all, though. Other than that, pretty much our best.
