Yes, every four years in the US the year after the regular tournament. However, it should probably be given a different name to distinguish it from Copa America. The Gold Cup should only be held every four years after the World Cup, and it should only have eight teams-CONCACAF will be fine financially because of the 16-team tournament.

An eight team Gold Cup is not going to happen. But that is something to argue about in another thread in the CONCACAF section.

CONCACAF will not give up a Gold Cup, why would they? Its financially succesful and it provides qualifying tournaments which give lower teams much needed activity.

Copa America has existed for 100 years, I dont know where this idea of "it needs CONCACAF" comes from, I seriously doubt the World isnt interested in watching players such as Messi, Neymar, Suarez, Sanchez, Vidal, James, Cuadrado etc etc
The Mexicans in US are not the only viewers out there.

I'm pretty sure that, even with a split cut, this tournament made them more money than any Gold Cup ever has. I'm certain that CONCACAF would be happy enough with the increased revenue that they would gladly drop one of their Copa Americas.

Noone's saying that the Copa America doesn't have viewers or that it doesn't make money. We're simply saying that this tournament probably made more money and had many more viewers than Copa America's played without the US viewership. You may not care about that, but I'm sure that CONMEBOL officials do.

The real question is, will as second combined tournament draw the interest of South American teams? That's doubtful. This one only did because it was on the FIFA calendar and it was considered an official major tournament by CONMEBOL. Do this on a regular basis, though, and the chances of replicating that are slim. CONMEBOL already invites 2 national teams and one of them is usually Mexico. I personally wonder why the US either rarely goes or is invited. They've invited many non-Latin American nations like Jamaica, but one of the two best CONCACAF sides rarely sees it's way to the tournament. Perhaps, if it's competition that we crave, we should start behaving more like Mexico and trying to involve ourselves in any competition in South America that takes place. It's not like we don't have a significant Latino population here or something...

Concacaf don't have involvement in any Copa America's. Theirs is the so called Gold cup.

Fact is, that with or without the US participation, in the tournament, many viewers in the USA still get to see the regular Copa America's (specially those interested in the sport). Their only problem is that probably it doesn't get the same level of coverage as this past tournament did. But really doesn't matter that much as US regular fans, prefer other sports over Football, and despite being extensively covered, they will still not watch it. Most viewers for this Copa America centenario, were probably the same as those viewers for regular CA tournaments, with a small increase, but not from the regular US fan, but from fans of other football minded Concacaf countries.

With all the indictments and money's getting frozen over it, together with the high costs that meant travel tickets and places where to stay for the teams and its traveling fans, it really didn't result in the cash cow that everybody in South America believed it would be, and in fact for lots of teams it actually meant negative figures, so it is not likely they will want to ever repeat the experience again. Lots of administrative adjustments in order to have a better share of the profits for Conmebol, sould be required for the possibility of having it there again, in which case the ones whom would probably not feel the same kind of incentive, will be Concacaf instead. It's hard to believe it will ever happen again, and if it does, it will have lots of changes so it would be a completely diferent type of tournament.

About the USA not getting invited, that's false as for almost every tournament they've been invited the same day as of Mexico (there must have been at most only a couple of tournaments where they didn't get invited, as for regular Copa America's, there are spots for only 2 guests each time, and sometimes we've prefered to invite others, for diferent reasons). The reason why they haven't accepted the invitation, you must ask them, why they didn't want to come. Of course if they got invited and they refused it, you can't expect Conmebol to insist on it. Once rejected, Conmebol would send the invitation to someone else right away (so once someone refuses to come, there is no place for a second thought on the issue).

Everyone knows that the USA doesn't go to the Copa America is because they want the players for the Gold Cup so that they can get into the Confederation cup as well as try to make the Gold Cup prestigious

Rumors now swirling that the Confederations Cup might be terminated after 2017. This might paint a different picture on this discussion. The existence of the Confederations Cup is a pretty big incentive to keep the Gold Cup as it is (i.e. every 2 years and strictly between CONCACAF nations). W/o the Confed Cup a Gold Cup every 4 years would seem to be enough, leaving the top CONCACAF nations free to play in an expanded Copa during the other odd years.

Of course, that’s just the CONCACAF perspective. Still need to get buy-in from CONMEBOL nations.

Funny how just last month in another thread the Brazilians on this forum where arguing how important the Confed Cup actually is... so important it's on the way to being exterminated

With the Confed hopefully gone, that frees that summer (WC-1) for qualification matches. It could be logistically feasible to have qualifiers for both a Combined CA (WC-3), the actual tournament (WC-2), and then start the WC qualifiers from WC-2 until WC-1...about 18 months.

Only problem is that Uefa is planning on having a Club WC (with a strong presence for Uefa clubs), to replace it, where without "their" top stars and players from this part of the pond, will not even attract radio broadcasting stations.

In those dates, don't even dream on having players released.

The UEFA Nations League "final four" is taking place in June 2019 (and presumably every June in odd-numbered years). The CWC cannot take place in June as a result. So CONMEBOL teams will be free to get their players at those times at least.

I wouldn't mind that at all I would love to face the Conmebol nations more regularly

I read that the people behind the termination of the Confederations Cup are the European Club owners, they insist that with World Cup, local Continent Cup, Qualifiers and FIFA dates, National team players do not get the rest they need, I doubt anyone will approve of a new tournament being created.
My opinion is...Hope you enjoyed it because it might be a while till we see this again.
