AJ is a pure goal scorer. If he stays healthy, he should get 10+ goals. I trust his ability to score in that league more than I trust Wood's ability to score in that league, and thats not an indictment on Wood, I think Johannsson is right there with Dempsey and Altidore for our best finisher.
Werder's midfield (not to mention defense and goalkeeping) is awful though - they make the Quakes look like eminent purveyors of joga bonito by comparison. Aron and Gnabry are more or less on their own, but I hope Skripnik tries to keep them on the field once Pizza comes back.
Josh Gatt came on at the 67 for his first action in over 2 years injury-unavailable. According to reports he still appears to have blistering speed!
Yup. He's part of the group of returning guys. These three (Gyau, Boyd, and Gatt) really support each other in social media. everyone counted us out, but we just getting started #comebackbros @36finest @JoshuaGatt https://t.co/xeQDIfFla0— Terrence Boyd (@TBoyd91) September 11, 2016 This is a Klinsmann comment from March. At that time all three were still in his mind. “We have players that are injured a bit longer than we thought. We feel for them, but we are also waiting for them, players like Terrence Boyd, like Joe Gyau, like Josh Gatt, or even Aron Johannsson out for a couple months. These players are not forgotten. They play a wider role in building our group, our core, for 2018 in Russia. So hopefully they get back on track as quickly as possible. But in the short run, like a hamstring with Jozy, we will manage it, we will make the best out of it, but it has an effect on the roster. There’s no doubt about it.”
Glad the hurt guys are returning. With future possible injuries the bigger the pool the better. Gyau and Gatt are also two of out very few speedy winger types. Be nice to have at least one of those types on the roster for Russia instead of trying to force a fast forward wide who doesn't quite get it.
I remember this Jeff Carlisle piece in 2012 ranking the top 10 USMNT prospects under 21............... http://www.espn.com/sports/soccer/n...459350/the-top-10-us-players-21-jeff-carlisle Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeefus. Exactly zero of them are currently part of the USMNT for a myriad of reasons. So when Klinsmann talks about the current "lost generation" of U23s, this is the previous generation of U23s here that really haven't advanced to USMNT material. Agudelo probably played his best game as a Rev this past weekend, and I still have hopes for him. The rest suffered injury problems, or just haven't advanced past the "good MLS-level player" stage. Boss, who at one time was considered one of our best prospects, bombed out of Europe. He's a pretty good NASL-level player right now. 1) Agudelo 2) Gatt 3) Boyd 4) Gatt 5) Lletget 6) Valentin 7) Kitchen 8) Okugo 9) Rowe 10) Agbossoumonde
No mention of Wood's 2nd in 2 matches? http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/...d-gets-second-goal-second-bundesliga-game-hsv
Lynden Gooch about to start alongsode Januzaj, haven't been this excited over a Sunderland match in a while.
Boyd also mentioned that Klinsmann had gotten them together in Germany to rehab! But not only was he not forgotten, at one point he says Klinsmann helped to arrange a trip to Munich with other American players Josh Gatt, Joe Gyau, and Aron Johannsson who were all attempting to return from long-term injuries. The group rehabbed together. http://americansoccernow.com/articles/terrence-boyd-tells-asn-my-knee-is-healthy-and-fit
They all took a whole bunch of pictures during those rehab sessions...... Rehab with the fastest white guy 🇺🇸 @JoshuaGatt pic.twitter.com/OfdIFBSUcM— Terrence Boyd (@TBoyd91) January 20, 2016
Lets see him do it in Columbus for yet another Dos a Cero and I will post that one for you over there!
It was tactical, Gooch was having a good game from what I could tell, even had the closest goal scoring opportunity up until that point.
I only caught the 1st half. English announcer guy gushed about Gooch. Then said that he is eligible for Ireland and England "though those watching tonight in America won't like me saying that."
