Time to start this thing up... the first game is a few weeks away. Following are some posts from the qualifying thread that probably should of gone in this thread.
I just read elsewhere that Fox let their rights to this expire, so there's currently no English-language broadcaster of the tournament. Not good.
It would really benefit the tournment if ESPN picked up the rights. They have a much better platform to broadcast and grow this thing
I looked and I didn't find any English TV for the games. That explains why. http://www.livesoccertv.com/competitions/international/concacaf-champions-league/ says Univision Deportes will show 5 of the 8 games on Matchday 1, but unfortunately not the Red Bulls because they're playing at the same time as Pumas UNAM. Pachuca vs. Olimpia isn't one of the five games, but I'd be shocked if there wasn't Spanish TV for it. Here's Univision Deportes' schedule: Tuesday August 2: Central FC vs. Vancouver Whitecaps at 8:00 P.M. Not listed on TV: Pachuca vs. Olimpia at 10:00 P.M. Wednesday August 3: W Connection vs. Pumas UNAM at 8:00 P.M. Don Bosco vs. Monterrey at 10:00 P.M. Not listed on TV: New York Red Bulls vs. Antigua at 8:00 P.M. and Portland Timbers vs. Dragon at 10:00 P.M. Thursday August 4: FC Dallas vs. Real Esteli at 8:00 P.M. Plaza Amador vs. Herediano at 10:00 P.M. CONCACAF used to make a PDF with the TV schedule in different countries, but they haven't made that for 2016-2017.
http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2016/08/02/ccls-group-stage-games-be-streamed-live-english-facebook All Group Stage games will be streamed live on Facebook
So, six games, six favourites won their matches. Portland scored in 90th minute to win their game. Nice start for the MLS - 3 out of 3. Dallas should join tonight with win against Esteli.
Is this like the Twitter MLB and NHL streams where they will be available even if you're not logged in to Facebook? Also, are the streams being archived anywhere or is the English coverage live-only?
I guess there wan't much interest in last night's games. Here are the scores: Central FC 2:2 Sporting Kansas City Alianza FC 1:1 New York Red Bulls Olimpia 4:0 Insee Police (Insee Police got the only red card of the night)
Wow, huge upset in Monterrey - Arabe game, 2-3. Is this the first-ever non-US win on Mexico soil in the CCL?
Nope, but not far off. 2008-09: Atlante 0 - 1 Joe Public (Trinidad) 2013-14: America 0 - 1 Alajuelense (Costa Rica)
Actually, I don't think a MLS team has won on Mexico soil yet either... MLS teams have knocked Mexican teams out based on aggregate, but I don't think they ever beat them on Mexican soil.
Nope. Happened twice in the 2011-12 group stage. 2011-12: Pumas 0 - 1 FC Dallas 2011-12: Monterrey 0 - 1 Seattle You're right that they haven't won a knockout leg in Mexico though.
Yep, I missed that... I forgot the format changed from a 4 team group to a 3 team group... and US based MLS teams once played against Mexican teams in the group stage during this time. I was only looking at the knockout rounds.
CONCACAF's wet dream: a guaranteed non-Mexican team in the final. As of right now... Pumas UNAM (MEX) vs. CF Pachuca (MEX) Tigres UANL (MEX) vs. Árabe Unido (PAN) --- New York Red Bulls (USA) vs. Vancouver Whitecaps (CAN) Deportivo Saprissa (CRC) vs. FC Dallas (USA)
Am I correct in assuming that Saprissa will be favored over Portland? Portland struggled to beat Dragon at home while Saprissa blew them away with ease. Portland is also struggling in the league and will have a hard time to qualify for the six game post season knockout tournament.
Yeah, you are. Saprissa's also in killer form in their league - unbeaten in the first 8, with a +13 GD.
Saprissa always gets the better of mls teams. The only time I remember an mls team eliminating Saprissa was the best mls team of all time RSL 2011
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deportivo_Saprissa#Record_versus_other_nations.27_teams says it has their "Official tournament results: Plus a sampling of other results." It lists 57 clubs, of which 7 are in MLS. Saprissa has at least as many wins as losses and a positive goal differential against all of the clubs. They are Chicago, Columbus, D.C., Houston, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Sporting Kansas City. The table is obviously incomplete because it doesn't list Real Salt Lake. I'm not going to try to add a new line to the table on Wikipedia. I did post on the article's Talk Page that it neglects the games against Real Salt Lake, but I don't think that Talk Page will get too many views. The Talk Page didn't exist before because I was the first person to post on it.
I wouldn't know that. So, at the 50% mark, Real Esteli is first eliminated team while Dragon might (and will) join them tonight. Arabe Unido confirmed their Monterrey triumph with 5-2 win in Haiti. Don Bosco is at two losses from their both home games. Vancouver trashed Sporting yesterday and they will qualify to the final stage. CFU teams since new format, excluding this season: 2-2-8 (TRI 2-1-5) 2-0-10 (JAM 2-0-2) 0-1-11 1-4-7 TOTAL 5-7-36. This season they are at 0-1-4 with each game played on their soil allowing 15 goals. My point is that CONCACAF has to do something about it, they have to try to make CFU football (at least a tiny bit) stronger and more competitive. This what they are doing is pointless.
