I believe it mostly churn in the Naperville club scene. In the last few years, there has been a bunch of club splits/small clubs forming/closing, etc. My son's club has had to hire more coaches as well due to the influx of kids coming from other teams.

Yes Sockers in Naperville is begining to rival Palatine for the # of teams in some ages.

They've picked up 3 coaches and moved one from Crystal Lake in 2 years to handle the load.

PB is leaving for Chicago Fire Jr.s and taking on a handful of players.

    Another major staff coach gone.

    What a mess!

Maybe it's time for what's left or Magic to call RD or DR and switch brands?

I am fairly certain the fat lady is warming up for Chicago Magic. Apparently PB has been talking with DR and awhile back. This is a huge loss as PB is one of the most respected coaches - amongst coaches in Region II and maybe even beyond!

Who knows who is running Magic now. I said he would be leaving. The good couches leave because the owners tell them what kids to play and how to play the game. Don't be fooled this really happens. Maybe they will bring back their lame yes man LM. He'll just tell people what they want to hear. We'll just wait and see how many more kids they'll ruin. They may of won the USYS national but it was a stacked team with kids from the academy. So the kids that played all year on that team got benched for a win. That's how you draw more players. And now those kids they put on that team are gonna follow PB. Its all about the win.

Well now they are all just hired guns. As long as there is a paycheck they will coach.

But no unity - no soul.

Bato and Youhanna would be wise to consider calling RD at Eclipse or DR at Sockers and put what's left in order so that the kids there have a chance.

It's unlikely though - owners did not fight to keep or grow Magic North when they were in Crystal Lake, they let Bailey and Pitcock go. Angel and Wickart left as well - Ngameni, Ducci and Dean are all gone. South is shut down.

Looks like once the owners kids had no more use...

On the Magic front it looks like FC United may be taking over the Magic - DA stays under the name Magic but Admin falls under FC United. I understand that Magic has been on double secret probation from US Soccer (DA).

Not much of a catch really for the FC United as the girls are all but non-existent and the DA name (as mentioned) will stay as the Magic. I guess it will allow FCU boys to move up into DA play - that's not all too bad.

Sockers North has some competition from Chicago Inferno which is also a USClub team on the boys end of it. Looks like a Crystal Lake Force coach left and is now running the Inferno out that way.

LOTS of clubs to choose from in the NW burbs...

That would be the best thing that could ever happen. The three clowns TR, D? and their old sidekick LM lied and ruined more kids since taking over that club. It was only for the owners kids to have somewhere to play and LM to get a paycheck. They did all kinds things against the rules. I still wouldn't listen to a thing anyone says there. Keep your eyes open if your there. Good luck

That would be really, really sad if that were the case.

    Pascal?

    You disagree?

I know coaches who would not mind working with him - DA coaches at that.

    Alex Jurado now with Sockers....

LM honored at the annual Sockers benefit - future for him at Sockers as well?

Not sure what the deal is with so many coaches - I know the boys side has grown a lot but the girls are no where near that pace.

The transformation for FC United continues - hiring Colorado Rapids Jamie Smith and DePaul head coach Erin Chastain. Magic will be DA in name only while FC United takes control.

Who in the world would have guess this is how the Magic would come to an end?

1989 - 2016. They had a great run. I played on the first team and my son went through, but the club was not passed into good stewardship after the original people moved on.

Looks like the NISL has set up a girls division to rival IWSL in the state.

    This ought to be interesting.

They have tried before and it didn't work even with about 10 of the biggest clubs supporting it.

The list they have posted is not accurate. Most of those teams are playing in the iwsl this year.

I coach for one of the teams listed as participating in NISL girls. Playing in the NISL was never considered. Our boys don't even play in NISL. We work with several clubs on that list and they are not entering the NISL league. IWSL has the teams posted for the fall and many of these teams are registered there.

This is in reference to US Club Soccer NPL league "run" through NISL. The announcement shows clubs not teams that will play in NPL. I would assume they have a commitment from these clubs that they will place at least one team in NPL. NPL is roughly US Club soccer's version of MRL and teams can play both IWSL and NPL.

This is what I was referencing

A lot of those clubs will not be participating in any US Club leagues

OK, now I see what you mean... When I looked at that link I thought "this must be boy teams" but the title does say girl teams. I am now skeptical of this as well; there seems to be too many clubs showing check marks in all age groups. I also am doubtful all of those teams would be leaving IWSL

Yeah - if they are not (at least some teams) then it does not seem that well planned to advertise this.

I guarantee most, if not all, of those clubs listed will have teams in the IWSL. Why? Because the girls NPL division will only have a 6 game schedule in the fall with games on alternating weeks. As a growing league, more membership is needed to complete a schedule that would be developmentally appropriate (the keywords here).

This whole league was created to give clubs a different option than the USYS/MRL competition platforms. Personally, I believe MRL is poison for Northern Illinois girls soccer. IWSL bent over and created the joke of a Club Open division so even average clubs can schedule 3 local games then go play in an MRL Red division against other average clubs but have to drive to Omaha to do it. Outside of the Premier divisions, why? Why play games that are no more developmentally appropriate than ones you can play 15min from home but pay hundreds adding up to thousands to do it?

Lets compare the LOCAL competition platforms for boys and girls in the area:

Most, if not all, top boys clubs (with the exception of Fire who have a lucrative deal with IYSA to play in their State Prem), play in the NISL Premier Divisions and it's made a fantastic local platform for elite teams. No expensive travel, regular schedule set by the league, all played on the same fields right off I290. Go to Olympic Park on a Wednesday night and you'll see 7 games played at the same time that are better than what you'd get in Ohio.

Now consider girls, are you telling me IWSL Club Open or IYSA State Premiership are even close? You have the largest, strongest pool of players in Region 2 in the Chicagoland area. You're saying there can't be a localized league with Eclipse, FCU, Sockers, Fire, Campton, etc? You could even sprinkle in the better teams from other mid-level local clubs that could compete at the level. More developmentally appropriate games weekly without having to leave the area.

There's still a need for Regional play. With the new girls DA coming, the ECNL provides the perfect regional platform: clubs are scheduled to play their "league play" against other top clubs in the region, with national showcase events sprinkled in. Perfect regional set-up.

End of the day these are simply my opinions. There's countless others that are just as valid in their own way, but with all this "us against them" stuff between local league leadership annoys the hell out of me. End rant.

Great post. Certain smaller clubs in my area use MRL as a marketing tool in order to gain prestige with parents. The MRL red division for u15 last year looked exactly like the IWSL A and A/B division when those girls were u11.

Does anyone know what's going on with Magic boys' USSDA teams for the upcoming fall season? Effectively being run by FC United?
