Title pretty much says it all.

    About me:
    1. From Chicago.
    2. Mostly enjoys a technically sound team with fine passing.
I've researched a little about any connections Scotland has to my city and found nothing. I then was led to Midlothian, a suburb of Chicago, and a sub-region of Scotland. If we go by geography that would bring me to the city of Edinburgh, giving me Hearts and Hibernian.

So Hearts and Hibernian. Which one? Is there any certain background associated with each e.g. working class?

EDIT: I'm aware that Hearts is sitting comfortably in top flight while Hibernian was just promoted from second tier. I' have no real issue with supporting a borderline top flight/2md tier team. (I'm an Aston Villa supporter.)

You may want to reconsider having a Scottish team, then. :p

Hearts are the bigger, more popular club. Both are small compared to Celtic and Rangers. Hearts have -- in my opinion -- the best small stadium in the world, 17k seats, very steep stands, great atmosphere. They mostly fill that stadium in most games. I enjoy watching their games.

Hibs are smaller, but still big by Scottish standards. Both had hard times lately. Hearts got promoted to top flight in 2015, Hibs are still in the 2nd division.

Hearts had a bigger, more athletic, physical team last year compared to other teams from what I remember. I saw a few Hibs games but I can't remember how they played. But yeah, Scottish league isn't known for very technical football. It doesn't help that weather is bad for many games and some pitches can get pretty bad, which makes the game more erratic.

As far as working class background, they are both from working class neighbourhoods in different parts of the town. Hearts are a bigger club now and have more supporters from all over eastern Scotland and internationally. I guess the Hibs might be perceived as a bit more working class now. I've seen some Hearts supporters call Hibs trailer trash and such. :)

I'd say it's Celtic who like to stress that working class background more than other Scottish clubs. They were created to raise money for the poor. But there's also a strong sectarian history with Celtic / Rangers.

@chungachanga : thanks for the info!

Ah! No where near close to choosing between the two. I'm going to watch a couple of games if I can of them on livefootballvideo later tonight.

Thought you were gonna wait for the season and have a team choose you?

It sorta turned out that way. I watched a few matches of what I can get and I saw how the club reaches out to its fans. I like that. I also like the unique history of Hibernian. In a way I chose the club by narrowing it down to two and then let "the feels" take over to a degree. I'm not the type that uses the "club chooses you" method entirely. It's unorthodox and many probably think it's a trivial way to go about the process, but it works for me.

A nice benefit with Hibernian -- they'll have a good shot to win their league this year.

On the other hand, I wonder how many championship games they'll show this year on main TV channels.

Last couple years they kept showing quite a few because of the Rangers, but now the Rangers got promoted, and that league will now be less sexy for TV.

I'd find out if the Hibs have some sort of season TV pass. They probably do.

I briefly read about the Rangers' insolvency. Dang. The good part is that within five years they're back in top flight.

Concerning the TV pass, Hibernian is offering a tv subscription for a relatively small fee. See: http://www.hibernianfc.co.uk/tv
