I still can't wrap my head around how this was made possible by a missed penalty.

WOW!!! The first 10 minutes they looked like a bundle of nerves. The rest of the game they looked like the best team in South America.

This team is the future of Ecuador.

I don't even care that I'm a Liga fan....right now, I'm all in for IDV. This team has stood as a pillar of national pride for Ecuador in the face of so much adversity this year.

Kudos to a team that has fantastic ownership, quality facilities, and an organization that buys into the culture of steady and controlled growth.

Several of the homies balled out- sent them congrats via whatsapp...hoping to hear from them soon.

In any case, this team definitely deserves to be here- knocking out two Argentinian titans and knocking out Pumas in a nailbiter pk shootout. WOW!

I'm considering going to the game in Medellin. Is anyone else pondering the idea? :)

What this team just did is not just historic up until this point. It's legendary. From what I've heard no team has EVER in the history of Copa Libertadores been able to eliminate both Boca AND River. It's mind blowing. I'm in awe. That small team that got promoted into first division in 2010 is now the finalist of the Copa Libertadores and eliminated BIG TEAMS only. As much as I love Liga and everything my team has done, THIS run IDV has had may possibly be the most difficult out of any Liga had. River, Pumas, Boca- do you guys have any idea of how BIG this is? Boca and River are the two giants of not only Argentina, but of the Americas. When it comes to the biggest derby in latin America, it's THAT one. It's unbelievable. And PUMAS is one of the BIG BOYS in Mexico. Probably has 10 times the budget of IDV. Boca and River....let me not even start. INCREDIBLE!! Also, no team has been able to defeat Boca home AND away since 1963 when Santos did it. IDV just broke so many records. What an amazing run!

Now regarding the game- YES, Arturo Mina is ALWAYS a beast and had another phenomenal game which isn't surprising, but did you guys see how Luis Caicedo shut down Carlos Tevez? I honestly think he was the MVP of last night. What a game that man had. In the most decisive instances of the cup. In the hardest game. In the hardest stadium to play away in the continent. He shut down Boca's star player- an argentine NT striker who is regarded as world class. Note: Erazo and Achilier- I'm sorry guys, but if this is what the Mina and Caicedo duo can do for us on the NT, by ALL MEANS let's have them start in the Qualifier. I'm so against experimenting in that arena b/c it's serious matter and the usual starters KNOW how to play together by memory, BUT Mina-Caicedo is one of the best duos I've seen us have as a country (even though this is only club level ball) since Hurtado and Espinoza. These guys are f*cking monsters. Campos-Erazo was an awesome duo, but this one far surpasses it. Geez! Salute to you IDV!

Bryan Cabezas is another player that IMO has shown even better futbol in these final decisive instances in this cup. 18 years old and putting in this kind of work on these big teams? Won't be in Ecuador much longer. If anything I wouldn't be surprised if he's one of the first to be picked up and taken to Europe. What a player this kid is. I didn't honestly think he could actually display even better futbol as the cup progressed. At least I wasn't expecting it from an 18 year old, but damn did this kid shut me up.

Orejuela & the Angulos- my question is Where will they all end up? Not when, but where. Teams are bound to snatch them. Simply amazing. Orejuela and Tin Angulo- NT all the way. At this point Quinteros, you are INSANE if you don't have the names Jose Angulo, Jefferson Orejuela, Luis Caicedo, and Arturo Mina on the list...and Bryan Cabezas possibly in consideration if we encounter an injury....or maybe even as an invite. There's no way these guys aren't on the list in September, NO MOTHER F*CKING WAY.

Caicedo had an awsome game vs Aucas and now had an even better one against Boca Im proud of that kid he is really growing and picking up momentum. Cabezas did the same thing to it amazing what confidence and inspiration can do to theses kids Passing the group stage and eliminating River Plate was pivotal to them being hungry for more. All the praise they got for doing this really inspired them. I am glad for them.

They need to have continued support after Libertadores too so I really do hope Quinteros helps them integrate into the NT.

The fact that they mentally can come back from adversity multiple times in this cup just demonstrates that they have an excellent coach. Repetto is amazing and I'm sure after December there will be big teams in other countries that want him. Even more if he wins the Libertadores. I would put money down for him to come to Liga. A coach that believes in the youth and mentally prepares them to this level is incredible. It's a VERY difficult task and he's done it.

He had all the tools to do this he said once they passed the group stage and eliminated River he made everyone in his team believe they can do more and they did.Four years of dedication struggle and hard work with various youth players and this is the end product a team with a couple of amazing youth players in the finals of la libertadores.

I think its smart how he did it the foreigners Like Tellechera and Rizotto may not always be starters but can play various positions and play a vital part in the team they bring experience to the table when needed. Nunez is an experienced and consistent player. And the way Mina, and Caicedo are prefoming in back Orejuella, Cabezas, Sornoza playing in mid and El tin Angulo up front, Azcona constantly making vital save to avoid through out each game. This team is amazing It really is. I enjoyed watching the game.

last year I wouldnt have thought they would have made it this far into the copa Libertadores after watching Emelec and Liga get eliminated I wasnt expecting much to happen. it took four years to get those youth players ready for this. To play good futbol in an international cup . This final is going to be exciting this team can win the finals they can do it.

I cant stop saying it but Eliminating River and Boca is huge they broke so many records that no other team has done in years. they are getting so much attention and making a name for them selves.

Its funny because Liga wanted him after Zubeldia left and it because he does such great work developing these players I couldnt have thought of a coach more perfect for this team and everything its worked for. He decided to stay because he knew he wasn't Finnish working with this team. And now we are seeing the results of it. I hope he doesnt leave after Libertadores Im interested to see what career move he takes this guy is really good with this team and the youth players. What will Independiente do if he leaves? Do you think they would look for some one like Bauza or Zubeldia to continue Independiente projects? It would be interesting.

Now lets talk about the national team and how these players are going to be a part of it. Meaning how do we get these guys on our national team. I really hope Quinteros opens his eyes to the players in Independiente and everything they have done in Libertadores. I know our mid field will get more competitive with all our up coming players and I hope Orejuela makes it to the list as well as Angulo and Caicedo. Maybe we cant do it during Qualifiers but the minute we schedule a friendly I hope this is what Quinteros is planing to do call these players up!!!

I think a lot more teams will try to follow what Independiente does after seeing them in the finals. We all know that Liga, El Nacional, Barcelona, Emelec, Aucas are going these routes they all are improving their youth systems and integrating a lot of youth players in to the first team. And a lot of these teams look more for coaches that are great with youth players.

Mina to River Plate is the latest rumor and lots of Argentine newspapers are running with it. Would this be a good career move? Surely it's a step above, but I think he can definitely do better with his current form.

They bought 60% of his pass for $2.7 million with a total value of $4.5 million in which IDV will retain 40% of his pass. Unbelievable he should go to the EPL. Hopefully he plays one year and makes the move to the EPL for a bigger purchase price and IDV will get 40% of the pass.

First time I saw these boys playing scared. No threat and no urgency after the first goal in the first 10 minutes. Atletico Nacional was just a better overall team well deserved win for them. IDV made us proud hopefully they made enough money to invest in their stadium and training grounds.

So now Repetto is officially leaving I wanna talk about what IDV is going to do next. So far only Mina has made the jump to El Exterior he is going to River. I know it sucks that not all our players got picked up like the colombian players but these kids are young and only getting better. They will make the jump eventually and IDV for the next Copa will be contenders. We also have Recopa to look forward to. And I also think FEF should schedule a friendly with IDV. NT vs IDV.

Azcona, Cabezas, J. Angulo, Sornoza are drawing attention from various teams but nothing official yet. It sucks that Repetto is leaving and that we didnt win but he left a strong base of players for the team and even more players developing and coming up. I want to see who IDV chooses to replace him.

It was their first final. Your right I never saw them play scared before but I fell like Angulo getting injured, Repetto announcing that he is leaving and the media distracted them a little. But still great run guys and like I said they will be contenders for next Copa!

How you play a final separates the GREATS from the rest. By GREATS, I mean the teams that make a name for themselves in history and go all out to win the final prize- the cup. IDV has always fell off in the most crucial moments of campeonatos/cups. I had a feeling this time would be different until Angulo got injured and then you hear Repetto leaving, Mina going to River, Sornoza to Fluminense, etc. That's all distracting. I think they screwed up there. But it's ok...that's what lack of experience can cause. IDV had never been in this scenario, the team was really young, and the fact that distractions kicked in wasn't good. Atletico Nacional deserves the cup. They were indeed the best team. The stats are the "tell all" and they're the most deserving of winning it. That team has lots of Colombian NT players, so the experience and bond is also VERY strong. Not to say IDV's isn't...shoot, if anything IDV players grow up together and are well gelled on the field due to that, but a little more experience may have been needed for the final BIG game.

The positive is that this run they had will allow them to continue believing in their philosophy of developing young talented players and having them be the face of their institution over all. They contributed their possible ticket earnings/profit to an important cause that allowed the country to unite and help each other out in difficult times....for people who were in need. They showcased their young talent at top level and demonstrated Ecuadorians and the rest of the continent that we have great young talent that's worthy of exportation- The team wins, the institution wins, the people who suffered the damages of the earthquake win, etc. That's what counts to me. The NT wins too b/c now I heard Quinteros has been "convinced" b/c it seemed like he wasn't before regarding players like Orejuela and Tin Angulo. I just read an interview where he said NOW Jose Angulo is ready b/c he needed a few more international games. When Quinteros took him to Copa America I'm positive that he didn't fully believe in Angulo. Now he says Orejuela, Angulo, and Sornoza convinced him that they're ready. I hope Luis Caicedo did too b/c he was a stand out in the cup as well. There's no reason why Luis Caicedo, Jefferson Orejuela, Jose Angulo, and of course Arturo Mina (already a firm NT players) aren't on the list come September. No freaking way. I'll label it bullsh*t if one of them are missing UNLESS there' s an injury. Those 4 guys are the best in their positions and able to compete with the rest of our squad.

This semester my eyes are on BSC in Copa Sudamericana. We have a BSC that has the best defense of the campeonato (they were scored on the least) and the best attack of the campeonato. I think in campeonato history they have the best goal difference record ever. Their defense is VERY young too. Let's see what they can do at international level. My eyes are on Dario Aimar and Anderson Ordonez. I've seen Velasco and Pineida play internationally and they've done well, but my interest is seeing these two center backs hold their ground. Especially Aimar since he's had a great semester and been one of the most consistent players in BSC and played the most games in the first semester. I'm eager to see if he's deserving of the NT.

Looks like Cunti Caicedo is going to Brazil next season. Him Orejuela and Sornoza are leaving.
As good as there youth system may be I dont think they will have enough players to build back a competitive squad. They will need to get some players at least two or tree in my opinion.

I think they should try to snatch a handful of Aucas Players. Mostly Aryton Preciado and Alex Bolanos. Any Center backs you guys think would be good for IDV? I think he should be an experienced CB from our league or a Foreigner.

Casquete even though FEF has registered him has not played one game in any of their teams no reserves games U-19 nothing. Anyone know whats going on?

Alexis Mendoza should not continue to coach them Either. If I were IDV I would go for Vizuete he would the Ideal coach for them.

Maybe Andy Casquete never really got signed to them at the end of the day. I highly doubt IDV would not play him in any tournament if he were part of their squad. Maybe it fell off and the media just never really picked up on the news. I have a feeling the kid doesn't have a team yet. Unless of course he's injured.

Regarding the departure of their players (Sornoza, Caicedo, and Orejuela) who are key backbone players to the base of their squad, I'm sure they will be able to lift themselves back up. Struggle or no struggle I see IDV as a team that stays true to their philosophy. Remember when Fernando Guerrero, Jonathan Gonzalez, Daniel Angulo, and Junior Sornoza all left at the same time? In other words, their 4 attacking starters (half the team). They still managed to come back from that and in 1 year they were playing a final of libertadores....to my surprise and everyones. I thought they were going to struggle without those four guys and then out of the blue came Bryan Cabezas, Julio Angulo (originally a sub), Sornoza returned, and Jose Angulo came and surprised the world since he debuted. Orejuela was starting to develop consistency around the time these guys left and a little later Luis Caicedo did too. Arturo Mina maintained a solid consistent level and later became a NT player and standout at IDV. So you can't doubt their youth system. Remember these guys undergo the longest and most effective development process in the country and IMO one of the best in the entire continent. I can tell you right now the IDV staff isn't worried about next season when these guys leave. Their young guys who you'll be seeing next season have most likely won 2, 3, 4 or more campeonatos at the youth level and know eachother since childhood days. The only difference is that now they'll be playing in the top squad at professional level which will be a new challenge for them. Their adaption process will only be to first division ball and not so much to each other (connecting as a team) b/c they already have that bond from previous consecutive years.

IDV shouldn't invest much or any money at all in signing new players or bringing in foreigners. Stay true to their philosophy and promote the new generation is what they should stick to. They'll do just fine.

A drop was expected. By 2017 they'd have lost their coach and more than half the squad that played the Libertadores final. Gone are Mina, Cabezas, and the two Angulos. With Sornoza, Orejuela, and Caicedo set to leave...that's 7 players gone. It might take them a couple of years to reach similar heights. Their scouting and player development is top notch so I'm sure 3-5 years from now they'll still be producing talent.

I think their biggest issue will be lossing Repetto. They need a coach that will properly transition the youth players into Primera division. And to me Mendoza isnt it.

Im not saying they shouldnt promote players cause they do have players coming up. Andy Burbano, Andi Caicedo,
Anthony Landazuri, Carlos Cuero, Jhegson Mendez, Alejandro Cabezas, Wiler Ayovi, Renny Jaramillo, Marcos Ramos and even more coming up. But the way the coach executes their development will be key.

They should take advantage that Aucas is most likely going to the B. Artuto Mina was purchased by IDV right after Macara decended if im not mistaken and look how great he turned out. Aucas has a lot of raw talent and youth players some that look like they just need to be polished off. Castillo, Montezuma, Betancourt, Preciado. They picked up quite a few players from the U-17 and U-20 and they were breaking into the first squad. Not to mention that Alex Bolanos would be available and he would be a great and experiance player for them to have.

They only have Risotto and Nunez as forgeiners and whose to say they will be with them next season as well. I think maybe two players would be fine for them if Risotto or Nunez leaves then a foreigner.

They are struggling now I hope they win next game vs El Nacional so that they Qualify for Copa.

Estrada off to a good start in the Libertadores with his first goal and could've had another.

Cortez is ballin' out there. Segovia and Leon also looked really good. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come.

They're a class act organization. Since I went to their facilities in 2011, I've always been impressed with their forward vision for player development. It's definitely unlike anything in Ecuador today.
