I didn't include Michel Preud'homme because Bart Verhaeghe already confirmed what we all knew: that he isn't a candidate for the job.
Am I wrong in thinking that the situation of having current presidents and directors of clubs serving concurrently on a national federation board is a big conflict of interest and unique to the KBVB? Anyway my preference would have been Preud'homme, but failing him, De Boer, Van Gaal or Vanhaezebrouck (in that order).
It's basically like this: The F.A. made Bart Verhaeghe vice president because they want him to help with clearing the financial rubble left in the wake of Steven Martens term as CEO. At the same time, Bart Verhaeghe just moved heaven and earth to get Michel Preud'homme to stay on as Club Brugge manager. Now it seems politically impossible for the F.A. to steal Michel Preud'homme from Club Brugge for the reasons mentioned above. They sort of need Bart Verhaeghe now and Bart Verhaeghe wants Michel Preud'homme to stay at his club. In any case, I don't think that the F.A. should ever steal a manager from a club, but that is another matter entirely.

Regardless ... the profile of our next manager fills about 2 pages but the KBVB only wanted to reveal that they're looking for a tactically astute manager with experience in modern football/achieved success, flexibility (adapting tactics depending on the opponent), accustomed to working in a high performance context/people manager, who openly communicates with the media and who's able to work within the KBVB structures ... above all else, a manager that will work for peanuts. MPH is the best Belgian option while we can't afford to waste opportunities ... I was hoping he'd bite or at least combine the job during this season (not many NT fixtures and he took on less responsibility at Club) ... Verhaeghe, again, made clear that's a big no-no ... a dirty shame ... letting it slide because Bruges jumped on the Leekens grenade Mr. 90%: "Sky is the limit bij Club" I'll always prefer a promising manager under 40yo or not much older ... ideally a Belgian one but the managers from abroad might be more interesting +/- affordable ... that's why I don't mind casting a wider net. Hiddink, IMAO, redeemed himself when he turned Mourinho's trainwreck of a season around ... he went on a long unbeaten streak until the starting XI was mostly the kiddies ... also did well as interim CFC manager in the past) ... and he shouldn't even receive too much blame for a Strootman/Robben-less underperformance of the dutchies (in the end he was stabbed in the back ... had to work in a dysfunctional environment ... don't think another manager would have fared any better ... as Blind has shown by doing even worse) ... after all Hiddink has a helluva resume. He's tactically astute, a healing and stimulating people manager, very flexible compared to M.Olsen or the stubborn rigidity of LVG's sterile displays at MUFC, great at helping young talents integrate (has plenty of work cut out for him), experience at top (club) level + leading NTs (Holland 1998, S.Korea, Australia, Russia ... usually overperformed and didn't fail like LVG in 2002 with an extraordinary amount of world-class players), knows Russia well, feels comfy there and will put everybody at ease, has worked with some of our players (and admires the others + Belgian taxman), reportedly he's okay with earning low wages, is used to speaking Dutch and English (maybe even French ... got along with Hazard), there's a striker-trainer at PSV he could work well with, he's very relaxed when talking to the press, more than just fit into the organisation he'd improve it, etc. Hiddink can deliver attacking 4-3-3 football ... in 1998 he helped launch Rijkaard's managerial career ... like I said earlier, I'll always prefer a young promising manager ... the KBVB is looking for lots of experience ... yet they could invest in the likes of Y.Ferrera (or his mate) and get Hiddink to mentor him/another promising Belgian manager and prepare him to take over the reigns after Russia2018 (or introduce him to big clubs/reaping rewards later/paying it forward). I'm viewing Hiddink as a transitional manager and I also feel comfy knowing Hiddink likes to go out on a high note. Hiddink, LVG and the others ... weighing them up against each other ... I have to give it to Hiddink.

Hiddink and LVG seem to be looking for the perfect swan song to walk out on (they're being mentioned a lot and they sound up for the job) ... reportedly Marcello Lippi, Rudi Garcia, Dick Advocaat, et al. are interested as well ... *facepalm superdeluxe* So this is what an "accomplished" manager looks like according to the KBVB. The fact they took a decision a week too soon says enough. But fine, will give Martinez the benefit of the doubt, even though I shouldn't.

Strong and open communicator: He does seem like an open, sociable man, so I guess he conforms to this aspect of the profile.

Agreements were reached with R.Rangnick, R.Garcia and D.Advocaat ... and it was Jesse De Preter who convinced Martinez to apply ... in the end the FA preferred a younger manager ... who's more in touch with this generation of players. He IS a charming basterd ... and Everton were a joy to watch ... defensively they were woeful though.

I will give him a chance, like I would have with any other appointment, but his last two seasons at Everton do not fill me with a lot of belief.
Looking at the highest paid NT managers (from the usual suspects within UEFA) ... England......Allardyce Italy............Ventura Turkey........Terim Germany....Löw Spain..........Lopetegui France........Deschamps Russia.........Cherchesov (TBA) Holland......Blind That's by no means a thrilling list ... and Löw has to digest plenty of criticism (as does Deschamps). Hodgson was paid between 6 to 7 times more than Wilmots ... it wouldn't be a big surprise when Allardyce's salary turns out to be 6x that of Martinez ... Holland probably will spend 3 to 4 times as much as we do (Advocaat won't tutor for free) ... while the other NTs on this list have even more money to throw around. I'm reconsidering my initial reaction ... compared to the others ... Martinez on the cheap looks like the best value for money. Both Guardiola and Martinez are disciples of Cruijff ... in that sense, they are in the same mould ... just nowhere near the same level and success. Martinez was being hailed as the coming man ... sure that has cooled down in the last 2 seasons ... still he's more than young enough to redeem himself and he does well in cup competitions ... that's what matters to us anyway. Despite Everton's defense being far from awesome, build-up play has been great to watch ... I even wouldn't put it past Martinez to help forge a defense that hardly ever concedes ... we have much better CBs (who helped out Wilmots a lot whenever they're fully fit), Martinez has used 3 ATB (I'm still a proponent) and he's bringing a club mentality to the job ... in offense, I'm looking for a break with Wilmots ... what I want for the future is exciting, stylish, fluid, courageous, sophisticated ... it's sparkling, it's free-flowing, it's attacking football ... with all due respect to the old farts, the geezers, the past ... Martinez deserves to be given time to prove himself ... he might do a magnificent job, he might not ... in any case it will be entertaining.
Was not hugely impressed when he was announced as manager (though I really liked his early work at Everton and some of the stuff he tried at Wigan). Defensively we were quite poor this tournament, partially due to tactics, partially due to injuries. And even though we know defensive tactics work (see Portugal), as I've gotten older I care less about the winning and more about how entertaining and pleasing the football I'm watching is. I'm pretty excited to see a really aggressive, open Belgium that will just try to outscore teams; that could be really fun. It's hard to win tournaments like that, but people still remember Holland in 1974 and Brazil in 1982 and even Russia in 2008. This tournament was just terrible to watch, and almost turned me off international play, so it'd be nice to see someone get away from 'defend, defend, defend, counter, defend, defend, corner/set piece' mentality.
