Hello Guys and Gals, I am a Portuguese person who loves football. I live in the United States (NJ Specifically) and am a supporter of FC Porto. I want to get into the EPL because they are the teams easiest to watch over here in the states on a weekly basis from Europe. But I am finding it difficult on what team to choose. I was thinking Man U because of the Portuguese history that club has or Chelsea but I am not to sure. I don't mind whether it is a big club like Chelsea, Man U, Man City etc.. or a an above average club like Everton and the Spurs or even a lower level club like West Ham. Please discuss on this forum. I would love to hear what you guys have to offer and will read all details you have. I plan to support this year!
West Ham isn't a lower level club anymore. In terms of watching on TV, do you get NBC's Extra Time channels and/or Live Extra online to watch all the games?
I get both so I can watch both. It really is not a matter of who I can watch it is just who I should support
What you need to do is pick a club that fits you i don't know how old you are but just be careful don't be a bandwagon fan.I'm 37 and have been a southampton fc fan for a few years.
I am 22. I am thinking about ManU but at the same time I don't really want to be labeled as a band wagoner. It just so happens ManU seems to be doing the most interesting things during the off season as I am looking for a team to support.
Support Stoke, we play decent football now, so are fun to watch but everyone still hates us so you're never going to accused of being on the bandwagon
Also we have a decent sized Portuguese community, my next door neighbours are from Portugal for example.
I would but I want a league that is more even that that. Spanish league has 3 great teams that are the only ones competing for the league.
Liverpool Great manager & fun team. A strong/loyal fan base. A club on the rise with Jurgen Klopp in charge. Big club, so you never have to worry about relegation. A great history as well. Whatever you do, don't choose Man United. You will be looked at as a "Glory Hunter". Clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham are more deserving.
I've heard it said that your club picks you. I've found that to be true for me. I didn't have a team in PL but I'd watch to track the progress of the Americans ( Dempsey, Howard, etc ). After awhile it was very clear which team I really liked (not one with any Americans ), and it would never have been a club I would have chosen myself. So pick a team and watch a bunch of matches. Then after a while, if you are honest with yourself, your club will pick you. Also, pay zero attention to what anyone else thinks about your choice.
Objectively, I'd say it's a great time to get on board with Everton. Solid new manager in Koeman. Daddy warbucks owner in Moshiri, so you know they'll sign competitively in the coming years. Really solid base of players, and a fair amount of youth. One of the EPL's best strikers in Lukaku (assuming he sticks around beyond next year). And you couldn't be labeled a frontrunner/glory hound, since Everton's closed around top 6-11 recently. But they're ascendant. I honestly think they'll fight for a Champions League spot this year, and Europa's pretty much a lock.
I don't think just picking a team is a good idea. Instead I recommend getting immersed in the Premier League this year. Watch multiple games each week if you can. Try to watch the best games each week and then maybe Match of the Day. Research any clubs or players you like. Then maybe after a few months you will probably be naturally drawn to a club or players. That is better IMO that just trying to pick a team off the top of your head with no connection.
I agree in principle but what I meant was its easier to get into it if you have something specific to cheer for, even short term.
