And after being unable to win a tailor-made tournament... the answer is NO.

News that Messi has retired from International play has started to spread. Same kind of news circulated after last year's Copa America. We'll see

I think he still has another good World Cup before retirement.

I never thought I'd see Lebron showing more heart than Messi... how could he quit?

Come on with Lebron now, that's the ultimate team sport player. One of the reasons he got the "scared of the big shot" was because he would always gladly pass the ball to a teammate with a better scoring chance than his own. Instead of taking bad shots.

He has retired from international football recently so that will never happen

He cant afford to let his country down by not showing up in international games..

True. I always thought he would win the WC with Argentina but I guess we will never see it now that he retired. Messi has way too much dignity to go back on his word and play for Argentina again.

I really doubt, given that he is getting older, the world cup in 2018 might be his last chance, but there are simply much better teams than Argentina out there!

Sometimes when you're the best player on the team, you have to take the big shot. He's finally learned that, but I truly think that he "copped out" of the big shot by overly focusing on getting his teammates involved. I think that he subconsciously used that aspect of his game to avoid the pressure of taking the bulk of the load on himself.

No. Too much pressure. They will probably when one once he retires .

I think he has one last chance, he is already 33 years old, but the odds are against him because he is old. And there is something else, if you want to take a World Cup, you need a big help from your teammates. His national teammates are old too! Higuan? Di Maria? I do not think so! The goalkeeper and the defence is really bad also!

I think it's too late now for WC glory. He'll be 35 in Qatar and is showing signs of ageing. Barcelona was like Argentina recently when they played against Napoli and Real Sociedad. Doesn't bode well for them, probably in for a royal beating in the QF.

He may pull a Zidane but then Argentina doesn't seem to have the sort of defensive power that Zidane could rely upon. Maybe that will change in 2,5 years time but I somehow doubt it.

But maybe Messi will win the Copa 2020.

might be one of the greatest comebacks in football history.not only did he won both the copa and the WC he was also the most influential player on the team and the best player of both competitions plus he won the finalissima where he had an amazing perfomance.

It could be argued that Luis Diaz was the best in the Copa America but other than that I agree with most of your post.

With a bit of luck and encouragement from his team, maybe. But I feel Messi needs a better team to win anything. Seems some people agree with me too
