Maybe I'm wrong here, but I haven't seen any advertisement for Charlotte this year? There are a few games that should be strongly advertised due to geography and potential rivalries.

#1 - NC teams in the US Open. I know the Eagles are D4, but it's potential for a great rivalry and the Eagles always have a good team. Along that line, the Railhawks. A chance to claim rights in NC and knock off a D2 team is always a huge plus in my book! I know they are normally a mid-week game, but look at the Knights baseball. Their mid-week games do great. If Charlotte would promote, throw some beer and food specials, I think it would be a great atmosphere!

#2 - Charleston and Wilmington. Especially Charleston! They had a great fan turn out in Charlotte last year. This could become a huge rivalry if our fans would buy in and Charlotte front office would advertise!

#3 - Lastly, Cincy. It seems silly, but the potential for the Queen City Cup is a good draw. Cincy is blowing their home attendance out of the park, while we sit here with (if we're lucky) 2,000.

I want to support Charlotte Independence! I love soccer and love having a home team, but the front office is killing me! What's the deal??? Oh...and we are currently 2nd at the moment! We are playing well, but that hasn't seemed to change the amount of butts in seats either!

I'll probably get blasted for this, and that's fine...

Again, Charlotte Eagles put out quality sides, time and time again. They got zero support. People blamed their "vision" or "emphasis," whatever...it's more than that. Fans just aren't there, they just don't care much. I never once bought that and thought it was an absolute stupid excuse -- I support and watch soccer because of the game, period. Put out a good side, they deserved to be watched regardless of the team's "ministry."

I get it, "Independence is setup different." Guess what, same complaints are occurring: front office issues, attendance issues, stadium issues, etc. Maybe Charlotte isn't a great place for soccer after all?

I got an email this morning saying the game was cancelled due to adverse field conditions. Our games are played in a temporary facility but this being the second season you would think the field should be able to handle it. We have had and continue to have a lot of rain in the area.
Everyone was looking forward to the Queen City rematch.

You and I have had our differences over the Eagles in the past, but I'm not gonna be one to blast you. It is extremely disheartening to see how the Independence saga has progressed. Initially we were going to play in a renovated Memorial Stadium in uptown Charlotte - now we are in a temporary facility in the middle of nowhere and tailgating with alcoholic beverages is illegal (although they do have a nice selection of local beers inside the stadium).
With that said I believe last years attendance probably tripled the Eagles attendance while they were in the USL. I still believe this City can support a team, but it needs to be uptown. Unfortunately I have not seen any sign of progress between the ownership and the city/county on renovation of Memorial Stadium.

If they can hold on until 2018 and Roberts loses they might stand a chance, but I don't see an Uptown venue ever happening under her.

Came to post this earlier but decided to hold off. Cats out of the bag now, we're playing Swansea City on July 13th!

Also rumor has it the team is going to partner with RiRa Uptown for some additional transportation options for fans to get to/from Ramblewood. For example $15 for season ticket holders to get to/from the game (bus outside RiRa) with a beer on the bus , two at the stadium, water on the ride back. Considering parking and concession prices if you live in the Uptown area this is a solid deal.

Big game tonight, really, really need to end this run of poor form. I'll be attending for the first time this season tonight, I'm super excited to be back at the park. Hoping for three points.

Nice win tonight, could have easily been a more lopsided scoreline. Very important road trip coming up.

I really hope these plans for the stadium are built. I think it's going to raise the profile of the Independence dramatically, and then people are going to actually realize we have a team...

    County Commissioners Hear Stadium Proposal

    7/6/2016

After almost a 90 minute wait, the proposed Memorial Stadium renovation project was presented to the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners. The presentation and comments/questions from the commissioners took an hour, but there was plenty of good discussion.

How was everyone's experience tonight? Obviously the result sucked but not like it was a shock. I had to take one of the shuttles because I didn't think to get a parking pass on time - that sucked. Getting there was no big deal, we parked and were on a shuttle within 8 minutes. But getting back was just a shit show. You had so many people all trying to get onto the same shuttles, I had to do some maneuvering just to get on the third or fourth shuttle. Makes you think about how much of an absolute disaster games would be if they always sold out. I can't imagine many people that were at the game tonight are eager to get back. I'll still go to as many games as possible because I love the team and will always support them, but they need to get serious about moving to Memorial. I pray it happens.

Beautiful night for the beautiful game, was incredible seeing a full stadium for an Independence game.

I'd say committing $8M to renovate a public facility is pretty serious... I get what you're saying, but the team doesn't like Ramblewood any more than the rest of us. Just look at the article yesterday stating the team is due to lose another $2.2M this year, bringing their loss to over $4M in the first two years of existence.

What's more distressing is the county's tone on Ramblewood and trying to have the team move to Matthews Sportsplex until Memorial is renovated. The team has a lot of money on the line to continue putting out a product like this but it really seems like they've hit every road block imaginable finding a suitable venue close to Uptown.

Part of me wishes they could find a large enough piece of land to buy and build a stadium without any city/county involvement besides the zoning. Leave the county with the full costs of dealing with their beloved (yet neglected) Memorial.

ha...well then you have just been placed in charge of taking photos for us of the site in question...I was down there over 10 years ago and I have to imagine that Matthews has grown by leaps and bounds since then.
