Although France has not been particularly impressive this tournameny, I'm taking them 2-1 over Germany due largely to the players that the Germans will be missing. Hummels and Gomez are big losses that will significantly alter the way Germany play and I think we will finally see the best of France.

Will be interested to see what Low does tactically in the midfield. They will run into some problems if schweinsteiger (or someone else if schweinsteiger is unable to go) and krooos end up having to deal with Pogba, Matuidi, and Kante without help

Could add Sakho to that lineup. Then it starts to look like 2014, where with a little more luck/better officiating, France might have beaten Germany, and gone on to win the WC instead of them.

Germany plays against the host in semi final. The last time they played against the host in semi final is 2014 and could it be

The last time Germany played France at a major tournament was also 2014.
I'd say 1-0 is more expected than 7-1.

So how do you guys rate euro'16 so far ?
I've found it to be mostly negative and boring with no team really standing out..
How do you think it compares to previous tournaments ? .. i would say euro '2000 is still the best euros overall that i've witnessed ..

I would say it is obviously on the conservative side comparing to recent tournaments let say WC2014. Weaker teams tend to park the bus and play counters, as a result it is harder to score against them. Even strong team especially Germany played more defensively than they did in WC 2014.

Agreed...has not been a memorable tournament.
My personal favorite was EURO 2008 thanks in large part to all of the thrilling finishes involving Turkey

    it's a mixed feeling ...

Group stage exposed UEFA's flaw in the format 24 - with lowest scoring ever in Euro history and many upsets

From R16 to SF it was getting better and better as it should

This must be the worst tournament. Before Euro 2016, Many people considered Euro 2004 as a weak tournament. The tournament had at least two great games on top of my head: England vs France and Portugal vs England. Greece? They did not win many fans with their playing style, but nevertheless, their victory was a great story.

So far, none of the matches was entertaining, but I actually enjoy it as much as any tournament.

You forgot about the best game of Euro 2004 (and one of the best games I've seen) Czech Republic vs Holland. That game was amazing.

Iceland, Austria, Hungry, Croatia, Poland, Wales

Has there ever been an easier run to a Euro final? Never mind that Portugal finished 3rd with only three points in what was the easiest group, but they have only managed to win one match in regular time. Had Iceland not scored that late goal vs Austria, Portugal would have been on the much more difficult side of the bracket and we wouldn't be talking about them in the final.

It's a farce that they were able to get out of the group with 3 points and worse that they are going to get an opportunity to play in the final.

This has been one of the worst Euros I've ever watched. There have been so few memorable matches between two quality opponents. Italy vs Belgium, Spain, Germany and tomorrow Germany vs Portugal have been the only matches to really pit two top teams vs each other. Well maybe not Belgium seeing as they aren't a very good side despite the overrated talent they possess.

Germany will be at a disadvantage given that they just played a grueling match vs Italy while France were able to "rest" of Iceland. On top of that as you mention Germany will be without important players. Then again, they can't really use this as an excuse given that they were the much more rested and healthy side vs a depleted Italian side that had to overcome Spain while Germany trounced Slovakia.

As for France, they have faced Romania, Albania, Switzerland, Ireland, and Iceland. They haven't been tested by a quality opponent at all.

That to me is the general issue with this 24 team format. Seeing as past Euros only featured four groups with the top two qualifying, the group stage pitted quality teams against each other immediately. Outside of Italy who had to go through Belgium, Spain, and Germany, most of the other important sides have been able to avoid each other. It's also a joke that certain group winners were able to play against 3rd place sides while others didn't.

Whoever wins tomorrow will likely win the Euros. As for Portugal, for them to have a realistic shot in the final, they will need two things:

    1. Germany and France have a gruelling 120 minute match where the victor (whoever it may be) goes into the final without a full squad, because of suspensions and injuries.

    2. Ronaldo and Pepe to have the game of their lives in the final. Ronaldo will actually need to show up in this final and not disappoint like he did in his last 3 CL finals.

Czech vs Holland and to a lesser extent vs Germany. I remember Italy vs Sweden being great in the 1st half. Italy played so well.
Sweden vs Bulgaria wasn't bad either. Of the Euros I've watched, I'd say it's 2000, 2008, 2004/2012 then 2016 unless something really special happens in the last two matches.

More games but less quality and not many stadn out games at all. I did feel the alst WC fell away a lot in the kock out phases but had very good groups, I feel that Eur2016 has not even had that...... I am struggling to come up with 5 decent games.

There's been a lack of dribblers and creativity in my opinion.. sometimes a game is crying out for a player who can take out a few defenders and open up space ...

Yep I agree, not may f the teams have been good to watch, France probaly the most entertaining, a lot of very negative teams aswell, including ones who are good going forward. At least in the group stages some of the lesser teams had a go, Hungary, Albania, Iceland, for example, but often not the quality to score, okay Hungary scored three versus Portugal but two big deflections.

Ever since the shock of the 1990 World Cup I do not go into a tournament expecting to witness great things. Thus my low expectations of Euro 2016 have been met by and large.

Naive fans like me had such huge expectations ahead of Italia '90 which was a result of being totally spoilt by the 1982 and 1986 World Cups as well as the surreal Euro 1984 and (to a lesser extent) Euro 1988. That were four massively entertaining tournaments in a row during the years when I was a teenager and I thought it would go on like this forever ..... then came Italia '90 and I must have been one of the very few Germans back in July 1990 who wasn't celebrating like crazy because of the victory, because to me it all tasted sour due to the tournament being such a huge disappointment and the final game was even worse than the previous games.

Nowadays nothing can disappoint me anymore!

^ don't be so negative. The match has not begun yet, Germany has still a chance to make a new double.
    Even without Khedira, Hummels, Reus...Gomez.

I have not celebrated like crazy in 98, nor in 2000 btw.

    Good match!

The WC in 1990 was a big disappointment. I think it was Pele(he is usually wrong, but I did agree with him before the tournament) who said the best players were playing in Serie A in 1990 and they would have the best tournament by playing in Italy.

Having said that, I thought for a German perspective, the tournament was entertaining. West Germany was entertaining in 1990. They had a boring game against Czechoslovakia and Argentina in Final. They were very entertaining against Yugoslavia, UAE, Holland and England. The Germans were very boring in 1986 and 1984(I missed the Euro 1988). In 1982, the Germans played a classic match against France, but they also had games liked the ones vs Austria and Algeria.

The expectations before Italia 90 were huge. Media expected the greatest tournament known to mankind, that's how huge it was. The tournament was thus a huge disappointment in general and while Germany played great in the group phase and against the Netherlands, afterwards it all went downhill with a dull game against Czechoslovakia, a lucky elimination of England (although the penalty shoot-out in that game was the most intense experience I ever had in a football game) and then came the absolute stinker of a final against Argentina which was just poor poor poor. Back then I was already thinking in historical categories and I knew that this would go down as the worst WC final ever seen...

I'm guessing you don't understand how this new 24 team format works. Don't hate the player, hate the game. Portugal could only play who was in their way. All that matters and will be remembered is who won the Euro, not how they got there. Easy road or tough road is irrelevant.
