So here it is! The momentous occasion that is the Euro 2016 semi-finals are here including Germany vs France! Now who wins is the big question, because after watching France's display vs Iceland, I am even wondering who will go through. However I will predict Germany. France may be at home and they may score lots of goals, but Germany can defend well enough to shut France's offence down and they can still score goals. France's defence are not all that amazing which will be the key for Germany to get past France. It will be a good dogfight, but Germany have the edge for me. Now without further ado, start discussing here what your thoughts are about this tie!

I think we saw France play as a pretty cohesive unit today which I'm not sure I've seen from Germany. This could go either way which..........is really the point right. It's awesome entertainment.....nothing more....nothing less.....

The bookmakers already have their odds and it's basically 50/50. Betfair odds are 2.00/2.00 right now, very seldom ;-) For me Germany is definately the favourite here.
    Reasons are:
    1. Pressure: Germans are World Champions, most of the players have nothing to prove anymore, they even beat Italy the first time in history. France play at home, they have to succeed otherwise the players will go down as losers. France's last trophy was 1998.
    2. Goalkeeper and Defense: Germany was very strong defensively and have the best goalkeeper in the world. Hummels will be out for the SF but even with Hoewedes they will still be much better than the french GK/Defense. Lloris is not bad but compared to Neuer very medicore. The back 4 of France (Evra, Koscielny, Rani and Sagna) weren't really be tested by Romania, Albania, Switzerland, Ireland and Iceland. They are just too old or internationally medicore (except of Koscielny)
3.Midfield: I'd say Germany is slightly better here. Schweinsteiger,Kroos,Oezil,Mueller,Goetze are all World Champions and they know how to win titles. France midfield is slightly weaker for me with Pogba,Payet etc.
    4. Forwards: France much better, no question!
I think the better defense and experience will make the difference, so Germany vs Wales in the final!

What about Trezeguet's golden goal volley in 2000 ?

Germany should win. They do a lot of things right. France being the home team won't be a big factor. Brazil was the home team in the WC.

For small clubs playing on their own field that could be big. If the field is flawed they know the best way to play on it. But that is not the case here. So what are the home field going to do to intimidate the players on the field.

After seeing the pk round with Germany v Italy. Then if this game goes to pks again. Then France can win.

If I were to bet on the game I would bet Germany to win.

Most important fact in my opinion: Neuer didn't concede any goal so far except of penalties ;-)
Might stay like that until the tourney is over. Might be the first time ever but we will only know that Thursday or Sunday :)

Just wanted to remind you that West Germany/Germany have knocked off host countries in 1972, 1976, 1982, 1986, 1992, 1996, 2002, 2008, 2014, 2016?. And 1972, 1976, 1992, 1996, 2002, 2014 were semi finals, 1986 was a quarter final, 1982, 2008 were in group stage. France is also the last Euro (1984) and World Cup host (1998) to win the championship. An intriguing match up to say the least and something's gotta give. Btw I'm rooting for Germany

Germany knows how to play in tournaments. They have a history of dong that. The team is even better now they were in the 80s. But if it goes to pks they can lose.

I expect that France win. Better shape of strikers. Germany has Hummels out. Khedira and Schweinsteiger with minor injuries, and France of course with unstoppable Griezmann and Payet. Can't wait to watch this game !

    https://footballfutbolcalciosoccer.blogspot.ca/2016/07/euro-2016-quarterfinal-review-best-xi.html

The world champions will enter after a physically and surely mentally exhausting matchup against the Italians. The hosts will enter on the back of a first half of devastating football followed by a pedestrian second half. Khedira and Gomez are out of the tournament due to injury now, with Hummels suspended - which together with their quarterfinal exertions handicaps them sufficiently to make this a truly level matchup. For all the French flair in attack, they are brittle at the back and the Germans have all the weapons needed to exploit the French backline.

The French will finally have a test at this tournament after in all fairness a fairly average run-in to the semis against far more limited teams than themselves. Within touching distance of greatness though, they run into the Germans who eliminated them at the quarterfinal stage of the 2014 World Cup. Pogba and Griezmann have two more years of top level experience, Payet is on scintillating form and was not part of that squad.

The Germans are a much different side than when they met in Brazil. Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Hummels, Khedira and Klose won't be on the field but a cast of super talent chomping at the bit for their chance to be the next German superstar are available ably supplemented by Neuer, Boateng, Ozil and Kroos who were part of that triumph.

Yet another game worthy of a final before the actual showpiece. It may well be quite an open game.

Well today it is Portugal vs Wales and then we will have Germany vs France tomorrow, two matches that I just want to watch now lol. Well I can say that I agree with what you all are saying but I will still stick to my prediction. Again, I think Germany are superior due to their great ability over France to defend and to still score goals. However France still have a chance for they have quality players that can do the business, but then Germany have class players too and also if they can beat Italy, they can beat anyone in this tournament

That is exactly as I saw the first half tremendous football. The second half was definitely at a lower level. Pks were from hunger and exhaustion.

lol I hear ya! I wish both semis were on the same day (at different times, of course). Would not only be fair (same amount of rest for the winners before the final) but would make for a fun day of drinking and partying.

No I think it is better like this. This way everyone can look forward to one match at one day, and also it saves a lot of hassle for the TV rights broadcasters as well
