The 1930 World Cup was all invited teams though, was the USA actually any good in 1930? They were mostly amateurs until the 1990's, which is why the USA beating England in 1950 was such a shock.

It doesn't matter a World cup took place and the USA got 3rd

Do we take away Uruguay's world cup because it was in 1930? No they still wear a star to represent that

USA lost the semi 6-1 in 1930. Still, they also got to a quarter final in 2002, where they played very well and would have won were it not for the Germany keeper Oliver Kahn playing the best match of his career probably.

Settle down with the CONCACAF nonsense ... everyone knows that CONMEBOL is better, but CONCACAF has 3-4 teams that on their day can compete.

People forget that Mexico just beat Uruguay and tied Venezuela. Last year's Copa they tied Bolivia and tied this same Chile team. At '14 World Cup they tied the host Brazil. That's 5 CONMEBOL teams in the last 3 major tournaments that they have matched.

Costa Rica beat Uruguay in '14 and Colombia this year. USA just beat Paraguay and Ecuador. Panama beat Bolivia. It's not going to happen most of the time, but it happens enough to keep things interesting.

What Mexico did tonight is on them, not all of CONCACAF.

No ... the referees are CONCACAF champions. Mexico shouldn't have even been in the final. Karma is a bitch though ...

Is Osorio going to get fired because of this?

That was with Donovan in his prime.

As for what outburtz said, Uruguay do have the trophy, but there are some people who don't count it because of some of the circumstances. I count it personally because Uruguay was the founder of international football and won Copa America's against Argentina prior to the World Cup even being formed.

I should remind some people that Osorio wasn't very good at home with Atletico Nacional. I know that this is the USA but technically its a home game. Look how many Mexicans there were.

I don't remember Osorio ever losing 7-0 at home to anyone with Nacional but we saw some silly results like Defensor and General Diaz both winning 2-0 in Medellin.

Losing in this manner is going to be difficult to overcome , he has not had a very impressive campaign in the first place. His strategy was very odd and he rotated players every game of this copa america it felt like he was experimenting with the team rather than establishing a solid core team. I believe we have used 3 different starter goalies in the past 4 games

Itagui is that team that's always changing names isn't it? Thought they were alright back in 2013.

    Still a bad result mind.

Sounds a lot like Ramon Diaz. I was debating if Ramon Diaz' rotation policy was any good. After seeing Paraguay and Mexico in the Copa, I think I have a verdict.

What I don't understand is how Eduardo Vargas can't find a solid club situation. Seems like the kind of guy that should be scoring 10+ goals every season wherever he plays. He should try going back to La Liga. There's a lot of clubs there where he could fit in like Villarreal, Celta, Malaga or Sociedad ... Too bad it didn't work out at Valencia, but honestly Valencia don't know what they're doing the last few years.

Yes but i think it should have been obvious to the fmf that we do not have the depth to be using strategies like that, maybe ignorance or lack of proper decision making in manager hiring. We used Gullit Pena vs Chile today for Godssake

Mexico is still a world class side. Just because they lost by a stunning 7-0 which doesn't happen everyday doesn't make them a side that isn't competitive internationally. we can go back less than ten years ago and find matches where teams you wouldn't expect get trashed by big scorelines, remember when B side Mexico trashed Paraguay at its height in 2007 6-0 in quarter finals? Deserved win by Chile but let's not get ahead of ourselves and start trashing Mexico as if they are on the same level as Aruba or American Samoa.
