I thought for a second the got to stay on due to that. That's not gonna reflect well on Roldan's performance in this match.
Were the appeals for offsides for the first ball on Wood? Because Zardes was clearly behind the shot leading to the goal.
Bedoya, Jones, and Wood are out. I guess people who want Nagbe and Pulisic are going to get their wish.
Given the amount of cards this half I'd think that intentional handling by Ecuador #13 could draw a yellow..
Overall an ok performance. 1st half wasn't tight enough, which led to a tight (and colorful) 2nd half. Probably could have avoided some cards with better management earlier on.
If you ignore restarting the game with Jones still on the field and the Ecuadorian coach not leaving the field...
He sent off Jones, so he's my favorite referee, but if there wasn't a red going the other way does he decide that's "negligible force?" How much lighter could it have been and still be contact?
Does it really fricken matter?!? For all we know there wasn't a safe way to move the manager from Point A to B. Referee should have waited for him to be removed anyways. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Agree about Jones but isn't the coach on match administration at that point? Coach was walking away after the ref told him to leave, ref goes back to doing the game. Someone, the match commissioner probably, should have been in charge of walking the coach to the back shouldn't they? Edit: thinking about it every red card in the Euros when they have shown the players walking back down the tunnel I feel like there was a suit waking them back. If I am not misremembering, add that to another difference between the Copa and the Euros!
So, JJ makes a dumb play, but NOT contact with the player's face (watch the replays). Gets red, but if he doesn't make contact, how is that a RED? Second, if he is still on the field, how is re-start allowed, foul/YC to Wood, but then ref says "My Bad", brings ball back to initial foul? To me there are 2 places where the US can protest - both the red to JJ and the yellow to Wood. By the way, to those who say JJ should get a red because what he did was stupid, please show me where 'stupidity' is a card-able offense. Which law? He should have stayed out, but he didn't do what was expressly forbidden - make contact with face when not involved with play. Dumb, yes. RC, no. Stop MSU!!!!
Ummmmm, yes, it did. If the ref stops play, as he should, there is no foul by Wood, hence no YC. So, do NOT move on, make the right call.
you can still have misconduct without the ball being in play. But since the misconduct doesn't happen if he doesn't mistakenly allow play to restart... It's also possible that he retracted the caution and no one else knew it.
BTFOOM, You suck, because you beat me to the punch. Wood's card can be appealed Can you imagine if that was his second yellow! Personally roldan might have f....ed himself over tonight Not making sure jones leaves... In fact his whole crew is f...Ed He should have rescinded the yellow to wood because he had not restarted correctly The dangerous play should have been red....Given the temperature of the game Why throw the coach out... Zardes dives to get the foul... Of course he is pissed. But kinsman is just as petulant
Someone threw a water bottle on the field and the 4th (I'm assuming because the referee came over and was looking at the 4th while pointing at the coach in a manner that read to me as saying "him?") identified the coach as the perp. That's a gimme.
But if the referee's report says he struck him, then that's what happened as far as Law 5 and protests go.
