This is a very troubled Venezuela team, with the crisis affecting their country. The sponsor of the Vinotinto is PDVSA (Petroleos de Venezuela), a government-run company that is suffering due to the lower crude prices.

No one knows where the money to pay these players will be coming from. Recently, they approached Polar (a brand of food and beverages) for help, but they didn't get anything from them.

For the most part, the two teams seem even. With either squad pulling an surprise upset on the favorites in this group.

One of the worst red card given that I have seen in a long time. Jamaican player gets ball first and clears it away. Then given a red card after the Venezuelan player crashes into him. No way was that a red, or a foul for that matter.

    Why???

Jamaica has always been consider a weak team , not that Venezuela is a strong team but its not a surprised.

If venezuela beat USA or Mexico it could be consider a surprised, maybe even against costa rica but that's about it

Was Jamaica weak when they beat the U.S. on U.S. soil in the 2015 Gold Cup semifinals?

    another surprise by Jamaica.

Overall they are a weak team. Venezuela has also beaten some good teams in southamerica so its not like they are a push over...

Bolivia beat argentina 6-2 like 3 or 4 years ago with Messi included...

It happens from time to time.

Venezuela against Jamaica, I actually had venezuela coming on top but I know it was going to be a close game.

That was on Bolivian soil not in Argentina. So rewind and come again.

No you need to read. You implied that Bolivia beat Argentina 6-2. But that was on Bolivian soil.
Jamaica beat the U.S. on U.S. soil that's not same. The U.S. is not and will never be anywhere close to the level of Argentina. If Jamaica had the funds and infrastructure the U.S. has, you wouldn't be "Surprised" of the victories we've been having lately. Take the cassette out, turn it around, rewind and come again.

It is based on recent form. Jamaica has been better over the course of the last year and a half than Venezuela. If you guessed based on each nation's form from the beginning of 2015 until now, you'd have expected Jamaica to win or at least get a draw.

Fortunes change in football, so the next 18 months may be very different.

    not really

if you were to see venezuela's result in the last few years you would see that venezuela is not that weak of a team like many of you guys think

2011 copa america they finished 4th
2014 qualifiers they had real chances of making the world cup until the last 4 games that changed everything, they actually finished 5th ( top 4 made it) , behind uruguay.
2015 copa america they finished last, but they still managed to get a victory against Colombia

They only "weak" team in southamerica right now could be Bolivia , even then in home soil they are tough to beat.
The rest of the teams usually have tight results between them when they play each other .

I don't think Venezuela can beat the usa or mexico right now , but I can see them going through costa rica

I was going back the last 18 months. In that time period, Venezuela had not shown itself to be vastly superior to Jamaica. Many of the claims that Venezuela's win was "surprising" are based off of this 18 month period, not "the last few years". This is called recency bias.

That still doesn't explain how Venezuela beating Jamaica is a surprise. Since when did Jamaica reach the levels of Germany and Argentina?

You don't have to be at the level of Germany or Argentina to be surprised by someone.

The USA, for example, is most certainly not at the level of Germany or Argentina. Most people would say that they were very surprised to see Jamaica defeat the USA a year ago in the Gold Cup semi-final.

Jamaica is not Germany or Argentina. Most will say they were still quite surprised to see Jamaica lose to Nicaragua in the 1st leg of 3rd round of WCQs last year.

Surprises happen at all levels of world football.

Recency bias based off of the last 18 months of form for each team meant that many were surprised to see the result between Jamaica and Venezuela. Venezuela did not look during that 18 month time frame like a team that was going to earn clear-cut wins over Jamaica.

Regardless of what the past may have suggested and how surprised people may have been, the fact is that Venezuela of today (that's right now, at this moment, not 10-18 months ago or whenever) is better than Jamaica and the results of this tournament reflect that. Times change - what was once current may not always be so.

The next time we face Venezuela, it is likely that recency bias will be on the other side and a Jamaican win would be the surprising outcome. Again, times change.

    Surprise?

People calling those results as "surprises"

Venezuela is more than Jamaica in terms of Football... Venezuela have better players, better team overall...

Surprise would be if Jamaica wins, that would be a real surprise, more than Venezuela beating Uruguay, as we beated Uruguay many times before, in their home or in ours...
