17-year-old professional goalkeeper to join development team for NPSL season

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers today announced the loan of 17-year-old first team goalkeeper Matias Reynares to Strikers U-23, the player development side of the club that competes in the Sunshine Conference of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).

The Strikers U-23 regular season runs from Sunday, May 22, until Wednesday, July 6. The loan will provide Reynares with substantial playing time and competitive match experience.

Reynares will continue to train with the first team, alongside Bruno Cardoso and Diego Restrepo, while his development is shaped by Strikers Goalkeepers Coach Ricardo Lopes.

Under NPSL rules, the Strikers can loan its first-team professional players to Strikers U-23 without affecting the amateur status of the U-23s and the NCAA eligibility of its players.

Strikers U-23 kick off their inaugural season away to Miami United FC this Sunday at Milander Park in Hialeah, before their first-ever home match at Lockhart Stadium on Wednesday, May 25. U-23 matches at Lockhart are free and open to the public.

I don't know about NPSL rules but that would seem to violate the NCAA rules about college players playing on a team with professionals. Do you have a cite to that rule?
