He seems very promising. Any talk about a new manager coming in?

Team like Ajax would benefit with someone like Julen Lopetegui or even a guy like Erik ten haag looks a good young manager

FdB said he would not comment about his future until after the season was over. I suspect that he is going to stay because he did not reach the goal of winning the league this season, which IMO will be disastrous for the team. It's not clear what senior players will be staying as they are not assured of group play in the CL next season so they will have to play two qualifying rounds. Even if they win the first round they might end up playing Villareal, ManU or ManCity.

The only name that keeps getting raised as a replacement is Peter Bosz. Rijkaard would be a good choice but I don't think he wants to manage again. Seedorf might be interesting but he only had a brief spell at Milan. Ajax really need a full clean out to get rid of Overmars and some of the others who are totally anti-football but I don't think that's going to happen. Interestingly, the stock price of Ajax dropped by 10% following the draw on Sunday. If there is anything that will drive the Board it is the € valuation of the club.

Is Kluivert Jr. considered as big a talent as his daddy, or less so??

Russian teams get obliterated in European football. CSKA was never superior to PSV in any tie. To say PSV was lucky against CSKA is just absurd.

  5. Doubt it as the stock price has no influence on the financial wiggle space of Ajax. Why they are on the stock exchange isnot clear to me. Most of the money of that sits in the bank.

@feyenoordsoccerfan - I agree, don't think the drop in the stock price will have an impact. They are financially strong and will stay that way because they do a good job of marketing and have good game revenue coming in. Certainly the salary cap has kept wages to a reasonable level though they do spend a lot on the academy.

The listing on the stock exchange and stock emission in the late nineties was to raise capital and to increase openness and professionalism as the association structure had proven to suffer from amateurism and mismanagement. (nothing changed there though)

The association controls most of the shares and the rest are mostly held by fans and (former) sponsors and doesn't pay out dividends, in effect it's mostly of sentimental value .

Ajax A-1 beat PSV A-1 1-0 on a free kick by Nouri that found the goal. Ajax qualify for the youth CL next season.

Apparently Alex Ferguson also met Pochettino over a lunch sparking rumors that he could be the next manager if Van Gaal gets the sack. Only a huge pay check would tempt pochettino to leave as Tottehman are already in CL. I don't think Alex Ferguson is a big fan of Mourinho.

If this does happens then FDB should put both his hands and legs up for the job as he is familiar with the players.

I'm not saying this will happen but if that what's cooking than this could be perfect opportunity for FDB to move to EPL.

Overmars has to go. His transfer policy is unproductive .In contrast , Brands did a good job at Psv

I would have preferred a guy like Jordi Cruyff . He has good ideas. Earnie Stewart , Mo Allach...

I would like Cruyff junior as well but I doubt he would take it if offered.

I am for that Ajax is dedicated exclusively to player from the academy. It would be useless to recruit players from outside . We must be true to our fundamental . Boys like Nouri, Eiting , Lartey are ready to play in the first team . The potential is there , but it is still necessary that the people at the head of the club have confidence in this policy. Sinkgraven has brought nothing . Ditto for Gudelj . This was the case also for Zimling . Let us trust the youth club. Accustom them to the top football at 17

It's also about the hours you make. Rule of thumb is 6 hours a day. Ask former greats how long they played with a ball per day and it's six hours. Very few academy players achieve that.

I think the Odegaard fall is highly exaggerated. With that being said, moving to Madrid was a mistake. He was never going to break into the first team there no matter how good he was. He's consistently starting for the B team now which is a step up from where he was last year but it's becoming more and more likely that he'll never make the jump to the big club.

If he can secure a transfer elsewhere I can see him flourishing. The talent is still there, it hasn't left. He just desperately needs minutes at the top league at this stage to grow as a professional.

No but I well remember Freddy Adu who my home club signed as a 14 year old! He is now with a 2nd division US team.

Freddy Adu, that's a name I haven't heard in awhile. I cannot believe he is only 26!

I think he's recovering from an injury but as Persona notes it is hard to believe he is only 26. It seems like he has been around forever!

  25. I saw him during the youth world cup in the Netherlands. I wanted to see him because f the hype to see what he really was worth. Wasnot impressed at all. On the other hand there was a kid I saw too and who became the darling of the Dutch...Messi....wonder what happened to him:D
