Other than Villa, who will they trade places with: Sunderland? Newcastle? Norwich? Will any of those teams pull off a Leicester like escape? The relegation dogfights are almost as exciting as the playoff chases!
Sunderland, Newcastle United, and Norwich City are close enough that for them to survive wouldn't be as an impressive an escape as Leicester City. Norwich City is in the last safe spot in 17th, but Sunderland and Newcastle United each have a game in hand. If Sunderland wins or draws that game and Newcastle United wins that game, both of them would pass Norwich City. Newcastle United plays twice before Norwich City's next game, so later Norwich City will have a game in hand. Here's the remaining schedule with a * meaning a home game: Norwich City: Arsenal Manchester United* Watford* Everton Watford is the easiest game. None of those four opponents are worse than 12th, and the four opponents have a combined +36 goal differential. Newcastle United: Manchester City* Liverpool Crystal Palace* Aston Villa Tottenham* They get to play a Crystal Palace club who got worse during the season, have a trip to Aston Villa, and have more home than away games. Still, their opponents have a combined +22 goal differential, and they have the hardest last game out of them, Norwich City, and Sunderland. It could be good for Newcastle United if Tottenham clinches second before their final game, with no way to move up or down, and rests players, but I don't know if a club would ever rest players in the last game of the season. Sunderland: Arsenal* Stoke City Chelsea* Everton* Watford They host Arsenal next week and then play the middle four clubs (9th, 10th, 11th and 12th). Their opponents have a combined +24 goal differential. In terms of games left and remaining opponents' goal differential, Norwich City will have the hardest time gaining more points.
Our ex-striker and Wembley promotion hero Alex Revell got named in the FL team of the week as goalkeeper for his penalty save for MK Dons against Preston. Here it is - the @football_league Team of the Week! >> https://t.co/pzlDxoItPT. pic.twitter.com/jyHpVUX63x— EFL (@EFL) April 18, 2016 He may not be a prolific striker but I think he could write a decent book about all of the special moments he's been at the centre of. It's a shame he went to Cardiff instead of staying with us as he is now heading back to League One with MK.
holy moley. I've just looked at the fixtures, and I didn't realize that 'boro are hosting Brighton in the last weekend. Burnley have gone two points clear, which means they're up, as both of the others can't catch them even if they lose at Charlton; so it's Brighton at Riverside to determine who goes straight up and who plays SWFC in the playoffs. A draw sees 'boro up on goal differential, otherwise it's the winner. motivated solely by the best interests of Wednesday, i'll be pulling for Middlesbrough, as the Owls have struggled considerably more against them than v Brighton. that will be a cracking atmosphere, though, in what is a massive game for each.
