I think they're two different teams, since the Rapids are separately mentioned in that previous release:
The lack of an actual moniker for the Asheville team is certainly questionable, though...

Before they adopted "Athletica" as their name, I think there was some talk about them just being "St. Louis". Not "St. Louis FC". Just "St. Louis".

Well, yeah, but that's not the issue I was pointing out with my comment about - a lack of a proper name is typical on the disorganized WPSL site and often an indication of uncertainty about the team's existence.

Besides, it's not like "just St. Louis" stuck.

So I was just doing a browse of both lower divisions to see if any interesting info had popped up, and it seems WPSL has revamped their website! Still very functionally similar to last time, but boy does it look nicer, and the front page if much more user-friendly. Even a big notice of the championship game in Columbus.

Same with PacSouth. Ah, well. The site does look better, and seems to have more info on it.

Yeah, that's happened often enough.... Each division is responsible for its own schedule, so I guess if they haven't gotten someone to the WPSL main offices yet, that would be why. It's also been that even within divisions, some teams get their schedules done quickly while other teams drag their feet.

I found out the lowdown with last weekend's Breakers reserve opener that never opened... their Academy team didn't have enough players, so they just decided to re-schedule the game. In any other respectable league (or situation for that matter even in the WPSL), the game would've been forfeited with the Reserves getting the win or the Academy team would've been forced to play with the players they had. The only reasons a game should be re-scheduled are for weather or travel issues. The weather was fine last Saturday and you know... both teams are "Breakers," so travel wasn't an issue.

But since they're comfy cozy under the same organizational umbrella, that didn't happen. This is why the idea that two teams (never mind three teams w/the Breakers U-20 team) should play in the same division. Actually, if someone can please name me a reputable sports league any where in the world where an organization has two teams playing at the same level, it would be appreciated. Also, the season has presumably kicked off and they list only nine games in a 7-team division.

Demand better, folks. Demand better... its the only way this kind of crap collusion (in any phase of life) gets fixed or eradicated. OK... off the soapbox.

    Nice DC-WPSL write-up from @StarCityFan on allwhitekit: http://www.allwhitekit.com/?p=14976
Also interesting preseason last week from the Sounders Women: two 5-0 matches, a loss to NWSL's FCKC and a win over local WPSL side KC Courage: http://wpsl.info/news/index.php?cat=1&id=2370 (I'm kinda surprised to hear the Courage referred to as a "partner" side, but at the same time FCKC also has some significant gaps in news coverage on its website - not only is there no mention of the Sounders, but their schedule page was last updated May 1st, and there's no recap of the Chicago game either... Odd to see an NWSL side falling being on the professionalism side.)

Still a little early to tell how the divisions are stacking up, but definitely no real surprises so far, aside from maybe FISC already 0-2. Otherwise, every team you think should be winning so far has done so.

    wow okay so

We previously had Seattle Sounders Women go play FCKC.
Now the Dash and FCD Women have agreed to a friendly this Thursday.
Both organizations are calling this FCD's inaugural season in WPSL
BUT THEY PLAYED IN THE BIG SOUTH DIVISION IN 2011 (2ND PLACE) AND 2012 (1ST).
YOU CAN EVEN GO TO FCD'S WEBSITE, SEARCH "WPSL" AND FIND ALL THE ARTICLES.
I'm not who needs to get whacked over the head for that oversight, but someone (I'm guessing at FCD) sure does.

Most teams now have 3-4 games under their belt, so I thought it would be fun to take a mid-June check on the standings now... (Will be starring** last year's W-League teams, as we'd expect them to really be doing well except for maybe against traditional WPSL powerhouses)

    The expected:
---Sounders Women** are leading the NW at 4-0 (+15GD, just 1GA)
---Beach Futbol Club and SoCal FC are fighting it out for the top of the Coastal division; these two teams make up two of the four last WPSL Final participants. (Maybe it's slightly surprising that Beach is 1pt ahead with a game in hand, considering SoCal FC is the spiritual successor to Pali Blues)
---Maybe not expected based on history, but expected just by organization: FCD is completely demolishing the SW division at 6-0 (+19 GD)
---Des Moines and Chicago are both perfect on the season so far; their home-and-away will be on July 2nd and 16th.
---Dayton** is rolling through the Valley division, 4-0 with +10GD so far
---MCFC is also rolling through the Great Lakes division, 4-0 with +8GD so far
---Boston's three WPSL team are all in the top four of the New England division, with the pro Reserves at a perfect 3-0 (+10GD, 1GA) so far.
---NYAC is 3-1 on top of the Mid-Atlantic division
---Both Washington Spirit sides** are in the top 3 of the colonial division; maybe slightly surprising that the Reserves are the team in 3rd, but they've only played two games to the division-leading Academy's five games
--Atlanta** is a perfect 3-0 in the SE division, though maybe surprisingly the Memphis Lobos are right on their tail at 3-0 as well

    The murky:
---The NorCal division. I'm not sure what to make of how things are falling out, especially with the Storm sitting in the middle of the division at 2-1 right now
---The PacSouth division. LA Salsa is leading the division at 3-1, but both San Diego (expected) and Pateadores (surprise) are currently 2-0 behind LA Salsa.
--The Carolinas division, as the Carolina Rapids are first at 3-0 (though just +3 GD) while the Elite Cobras** are 1-1 but a whopping +6 GD

    The surprising:
---The Issaquah Gunners are just 1-1-1 in the NW right now. Granted, their only loss was to the Sounders Women, so there's still room for them to finish a strong second (or maybe first if Seattle slips up, which doesn't look likely).
---FISC is winless through four games in the Valley division despite qualifying for playoffs in two of their first three years in existence so far.
--FCI is similarly winless through FIVE games in the Great Lakes division. This is a team that was thinking of WPS, WPSLE, and NWSL at different times, and is one of the winningest teams in WPSL - though, to be fair, they haven't won anything of note since their two-season stint in the W-League.
---Expansion/revival side Philly Fever are beating ex-W-League NJ Wildcats** for the lead in the Tri-State division (4-0, +8GD versus 3-1, +7GD)
---ASAC is winless this year in the Colonial division, though not really floundering since they're 0-1-2 and the one loss was by a single goal
---Tampa Bay Helenic is at just 1-1-1 so far in the Sunshine division, behind the 3-0 Orlando Kicks and Florida Krush

FC Indiana has gone through a lot of identities since Laura del Rio led them to the W-League finals and the Open Cup championship in 2008. For a while there, there wasn't much difference between them and the Haiti WNT, but looking at the latest roster that no longer seems to be the case.

Yeah, FCI seems to be the ultimate experimental team... There was the Haiti phase, there was the WLS phase (which I think overlapped), last year (or the year before?) they had a 13yo on the squad... Wondering if good ol' Shek bit off more than he could chew with creating WLS and hasn't recovered since.

    Alright, another quick recap:

---By the standings page, the Sounders Women** are one point from winning the NW division at 7-0 and 5pts clear, but by the schedule page they're already 8-0. So I guess they've won the division.
---The NorCal division is still wide open, with three teams in the mix: Fresno Freeze (6-1-1), San Ramon (5-0-1), and the CA Storm (5-1-1). Back but not officially eliminated yet are the SF Nighthawks (4-2-1).
---Beach FC is in the driver's seat in the Coastal division, being 1pt ahead of SoCal FC with a game in hand (5-0-1 vs 4-0-3). LA Villa FC are still technically in the mix as well at 4-3.
---The PacSouth division has some drama to go, with the standings having completely turned around! FC Tucson is leading the division at 17pts with just one more game to play, but the SD SeaLions very much still in the picture at 16pts but with four more games to play!
---FC Dallas has won the SW division with two games still to play with a currently perfect 12-0 record and +30 (36-6) GD. They'll have a nice break between their last game (7/10) and whenever the playoffs start.
---The Red Stars Reserves are perfect so far (6-0, +30 (30-0) with two games left to keep their shutout) but haven't quite won the Heartland division since Des Moines is 9pts behind but with four games to play.
---The Dayton Dutch Lions** have won the Valley division at 5-1-0 (two games to play). My FISC are tied for second at 2-2-2...
---Depending on potential tiebreaks, Motor City FC have already won the Great Lakes division at 8-0-1 as the Michigan Chill (5-1-1) can at best tie their 25pts. (I'm gonna call it won.) MCFC's last game is on 7/9. FCI has a woeful 1PPG so far at 2-4-1.
---The New England division is both "duh" and very weird... The Breakers Reserves have blown through the division as expected, but aside from their 8-0, no team in the division has more than 2 wins! Second and third are the Breakers' other two squads. The reserves play just two more games, today and 7/9.
---The Mid-Atlantic division is still pretty open, with three of the five teams still able to win it.
---From the schedule page, I can't quite tell what's going on with the Tri-State division, since some teams have 9 games while others have 10. One team seems to be the "shame example" of the season with 0 wins and multiple games unreported. At the other end of the division, the Philly Fever (7-0, +15GD) is in control, but I think both the Penn Fusion (5-0-2) and NJ Wildcats** (5-2) are still in contention.
---The Colonial division unsurprisingly see both Washington Spirit**** squads on top, with the division title guaranteed to go to one of them.
---The Carolina Elite Cobras** are leading the Carolinas division, but it's wide open.
---The SE division is essentially done with play, and unsurprisingly the Atlanta Silverbacks** have won the division with a perfect 8-0 record.
---The Sunshine division is still pretty open, with the FL Kruch, Orlando Kicks, and Tampa Bay all still in it.

I was at the Motor City -v- Michigan Chill game yesterday. In an entertaining match, the Chill holds most of the play and wins 1-0. So now the Chill needs to win their last two matches (Cleveland, Indiana; no small task; but two more performances like yesterday would do it) to tie Motor City, then (I guess) get the head-to-head tie-breaker (one win and a draw).

Anybody have a solid idea how the playoffs work this year? As for the Central, an earlier article lists four divisions, including the Southwest (??). (The piece actually lists five divisions, but two of them were merged.) http://www.wpsl.info/news/index.php?cat=1&id=2371

Article about the Breakers Reserves say they will travel to play the winner of the Tri-State Division. Not sure how they decided who hosts given that they've got a perfect record while the host team will not. Presumably this means that the Spirit Reserves will play the winner of the Mid-Atlantic Division.

You edited this in after I repped, and while it does list five divisions, that's over two different years. It talks about Midwest and Great Lakes from 2015, but there isn't a "midwest" division in 2016. So the "Central Division" for 2016 is four regions: Heartland, Valley, Great Lakes, and Southwest. (I agree including the "Southwest" is kinda weird, but remember that it's what the Big Sky used to be, [it's more "South central" than it is "Southwest",] and Big Sky was always paired with the Midwest in the Central playoffs - as opposed to the West regions, the North regions, and the South regions.)
I wouldn't be soooo quick to place the Colonial as is the "North" bracket... there are 15 divisions, so one of the four brackets will only be 3 divisions. We know the four in the Central bracket, and it's clear what the four in the West bracket will be, so either the North or the South bracket will have just three, and they did want ASA Charge to play in the South bracket last year... Colonial/Carolinas/Southeast/Sunshine?

Whichever bracket the Colonial division gets put it, they're going to have at least one other really strong team to go up against: Breakers Reserves in the North, or ATL Silverbacks in the South.

Silverbacks lost an intra-divisional playoff over the weekend with the top four teams in the Southeast division. Knoxville Lady Force apparently won and will represent the Southeast in the playoffs, I suppose. Of course, none of this is reported or shown on the WPSL website, and you wouldn't know about it unless you follow one of the clubs.
