Volland scores the late equalizer as Hoffenheim draw 1-1 vs Köln. His strong Rückrunde form continues, now with 3 goals and 5 assists in his last 7 league matches.
Stindl plays up front for his club almost every week, how is he not a forward? Reus, Schurrle and Draxler haven't played up front with as much regularity, but each has seen starts there as well...Schurrle & Draxler having actually played as a front two together for their club. *shrug* There's just not a very strong argument for us to start with a clog like Gomez/Keissling/A.Meier, when a partnership of Mueller & Kruse/Reus/Draxler/Volland/Gotze/Schurrle/Stindl/Herrmann/Hahn/Sane/Brandt, with Ozil in a free role between them and the midfield trio, would be very dangerous & better allow us to dominate (and win) matches against talented teams? I don't begrudge Gomez getting some games against minnows in qualifying or friendlies where we don't wanna burn out our more important players. But he has no place in this team other than as an emergency plan B, which is unfortunately a role he's failed to deliver in in the past...though maybe playing in Turkey has taught Mario how to be effectual without needing to start.... Dahoud should start for our senior squad next to Ilkay in these Euros. He's such a lovely player already & does a phenomenal job of elevating his play when on the pitch with established class. I still remember the first time I saw him in a friendly two summers ago, looking like a Gundogan-clone as he elegantly wove his way through the midfield, and he's now ready physically and mentally for the top level of senior football. Stick Kroos/Weigl/Kimmich behind Gundo & Dahoud...with Boateng & Hummels in the heart of our backline...and we will dominate every match, allowing our front three to be completely free & fluid ahead of them. Would be nice to see Jantschke find his old form. BMG are a beautiful team to watch, who have scored more goals than any BuLi team but FCB & BVB; but the only teams who've conceded more are Hannover, Stuttgart & Werder. I really like the way Schubert has them playing and the formation is one I've brought up with BMG fans multiple times over the previous two seasons...since Tony first started seeing some PT at CB, with Dominguez over at LB and Stranzl between them. Finally getting to see Tony healthy & playing as the right CB of a back three will be really satisfying for me...so hopefully he can complete his recover & find his form. He's a very smart defender, who's very careful and clean in possession; which that extremely young and inexperienced gladbach defense has desperately lacked since all three of Alvaro, Tony & Stranzl went down with long-term injuries.
I was only able to catch highlights and match reports of the Wolfsburg win vs Real Madrid because of work. But damn, Draxler sure loves the big stage whenever he's playing in European competitions. I think Danilo is still trying to regain his balance. Hope he maintains this strong play to knock them out in the return leg. He can jump high up on the rainbow as many times as he likes hes not going to start ever a Euro game this summer. Unless hes willing to play left wingback, of course
Maybe Draxler won't be a starter yet, but if he can provide a spark of swift movement or trickery when subbing on for the second half then that would be a solid contribution to the NT.
Whoa! Slow down there. Wolfsburg beat a fatigued and poorly-prepared Real Madrid at home. That doesn't make them contenders.
They will then beat a fatigued, injured, and poorly prepared Man City and then they will beat Bayern in the final after Xabi and Lahm slip in PK shootout
Champion's League Draxler is orders of magnitude better than Bundesliga Draxler, and I have no idea why.
Yes , weird ... But the kid has got the potential to be great . He reminded me yesterday a little bit of Ronaldo. Hope he pulls a muller and comes out big at the euros !
When Götze and Reus can play the striker role then so can he. He'd be choice no. 3 though in the not real CF department.
The times when Reus single-handedly dragged Dortmund and being their clutch player seem to have vanished. Not sure if those injuries setback took a toil on his mentality or not. Hummels and Weigl were brilliant though.
