How many of these will be right? GK: Vom Steeg, Silva, Lopez Defenders: Olosunde, Adams, Carter-Vickers, Palmer-Brown, Redding, Gruno, Nelson, A. Robinson Midfielders: Scott, Durkin, Goslin, Zendejas, Pulisic, Akale, Carleton, Taitague, Perez Forwards: Wright, Ebobisse, Lennon Lopez Olosunde Redding Carter-Vickers Robinson Palmer-Brown Goslin Akale Pulisic Carleton Wright
There's some solid talent in that team. Especially in the attacking midfield. Olusunde always interests me and carter Vickers is the truth.
Read the previous thread from the beginning for a clue: http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/2016-olympic-qualifying-team.1989768/ Gotta love the self-awareness from @Real Corona...
Yeah, he got a few right that played in this series. Another one or two could've been on the team, but weren't. I was reading a few pages into that, and I noticed names that I don't think are playing pro soccer, which tells you all you need to know. I remember there was this guy who a lot of us thought was going to be part of the last U-20 cycle, he played at Wigan (can't remember his name), and all of a sudden he just stopped playing soccer, deleted his twitter, I don't think anyone figured out what happened to him. That just shows what can happen, how unpredictable this stuff is, but its fun to guess and see how many you can get right and who you thought was good at the beginning of the cycle?
The attacking midfield three is what I think could be the best, Carleton-Pulisic-Akale has serious potential, I like the center-backs, there are about 10 of them to pick from, and I like the strikers.
So, correct me if I'm wrong, but the age eligibility for the 2020 qualifying team will be all players born on or after January 1, 1997. Unless the Olympic committee changes the rules, that is.
That's the same eligibility date as the 2017 U-20 World Cup squad, right? Is there anything for them after the U20s before Olympic qualifying starts? I wonder if like we've added a U-18 and U-19 program, if we'll see a U-21 team. Or at least earlier camps than just 8 months before qualifying. It seems strange that there'd basically be a 2 year gap for international games for most of the Baby Nats that will be age eligible for the next Olympic qualifying program.
So in other words, this thread is pretty much redundant with the U-20 thread. The last Olympic thread didn't start until mid-2013. Would it make sense to lock this one until mid-2017, or is there a reason to have both U-20 and Olympic threads up?
Admittedly, there might not be much point until the U23 group (or some related connection of players) actually gathers for some reason. But the last one did start in 2013, which at least offered us folks here some amusement.
Just for fun (since we're going to look back on this in 4 years from now and probably laugh), I'll post a lineup. Projecting the current u17's here is tough since they're on the young end of the spectrum, but I imagine at least a few of them will be in the picture. 1st Team -------------------------------Pulisic------------------------------ Olosunde--------CCV----Palmer-Brown-----A.Robinson --------------------------Tyler Adams-------------------------- -------------G.Acosta--------------------Pulisic---------------- -------------------------------Akale------------------------------ B.Lennon----------------------------------------------J.Perez 2nd team: -------------------------------Silva------------------------------ Zendejas--------Redding--------Gruno-------J. Nelson? ------------------------------Lindley--------------------------- ------------------Zelalem---------------Ferri----------------- ---------------------------De La Torre-------------------------- J.Ebobisse---------------------------------------------Carleton I fully expect this to be way off the mark. I also have a hard time leaving certain players off like Haji Wright, or Joe Gallardo, but it's just so tough to predict where they'll end up.
With how bad of a generation the Adu, Shea, Agudelo generation has turned out..... Will we be forced to move Pulisic Akale, Perez, Lennon etc. to full national team duty?
1. Adu and Shea, okay, you have a point. Besides those guys though, there are plenty of deserving players of that generation in MLS who have been completely ignored for NT call ups. Claiming that generation is so bad is naive, IMO. You have to give those players a chance before drawing a conclusion like that, IMO. 2. Besides Pulisic who's a first team professional, why should academy players be moving up to playing with the top first team professionals in our player pool?
Well, the 2017 U20 cycle is over, which means for the 97s and 98s, the only YNT they have left to be age-eligible for is the U23 team that will try to qualify for the 2020 Olympics, an event the US has missed out on in three of the last four Games. Several questions to ask, beginning with: Who will coach the team? When will they start gathering for camps and friendlies? What players from the U20 cycle will matriculate up? What age-eligible players who were left out of the current U20 cycle or got very brief looks will get a look? (History suggests several.) Will Christian Pulisic be available to them at any time? Discuss!
As for players, it probably makes sense to start with guys who are already regionally based or or likely to be (college players, HG-eligibles, possibly others in Mexico) since the fantasy team picks never quite seem to show up... To start, here are all the currently domestic 97s called in by Ramos: Palmer-Brown Erik (though seems likely to move abroad) Klinsmann Jonathan (though seems likely to move abroad) Herrera Aaron Sabbi Emmanuel (team status unclear) Williamson Eryk Acosta Danilo "Danny" Marcinkowski James "JT" Ebobisse Jeremy Redding Tommy Saucedo Sebastian Glad Justen Lennon Brooks (technically still Liverpool property) Jones Derrick Borges Marcello Craft Coy Mansaray Victor Robinson Miles Lewis Jonathan Lindley Cameron Lombard Andrew Yueill Jackson Elney Sebastian Gutjahr Jeremiah Bashti Amir Fernandez Collin Samuel Yosef Hinds Nicholas "Nick" Jones Malcolm Pineda Mauricio Salas Martin Stajduhar Mason Waldrep Evan Bell Jonathan Burns David Flores Juan "Charly" Herrera Christian (though now in the Mexico fold I believe) Kelly Jeremy Lucatero Christian Martin Henry Mendes Lucas Obinwa Abuchi Onalfo Christian Pelaez Pablo Pineda Amirgy Poarch Chad Popovic Nebojsa "Nash" Silva Diego Swanson Ben Wilson Sean Winter Abu
