Estadio azteca needs a major renovation. It's a great stadium to watch futbol in (looks good from most seats I've been in), can get really loud (good atmosphere) but Damn, at the same time, it's really shitty. As the face of the Mexican National Team and as the home stadium of one of Mexico's most popular clubs, this place needs a huge fix up. There's too much damn concrete visible just about everywhere. All Mexican clubs should follow Monterrey's lead.
If im not mistaken I think they're only changing the seats and the palco section. IMO that stadium needs a super - renovation a la Wembley
I think they have some renovations in place for 2018, which I believe is a celebration of the stadium's 50th
the renovations that ar taking place this year are to celebrate the 50 years of the stadium, America's 100 anniversary, and the Nfl returning. The only way azteca would get a wembley type renovation is if there would be a serious WC bid. And im still not sure that will be enough,
A Wembley type renovation would mean a demolition and build from the ground up at the same place. It would be difficult to justify such project. No one was playing at Wembley every other week like America does. I honestly see America building a smaller stadium before the Azteca being completely rebuilt. Azcarraga's group owns the stadium so its up to him to make a renovation, unlike Wembley which is own by the Football Association
The renovations they have planned looks nice. Hopefully that's the final product Wasn't Wembley also an ancient dump. Azteca is nowhere near that level of deterioration. Just needs a nice proper facelift
They can rennovate the Azteca entirely only after I see Mexico lift the World Cup there. After that, idgaf.
También me gusta esta idea: http://www.mediotiempo.com/futbol/2016/08/25/nuevo-estadio-tigre-costaria-300-mdd-rector-de-la-uanl Así no perdería "identidad" con la UANL, al menos por el lugar...
Not bad. I thought 90% of the "renovation" was going to be a fresh coat of paint, like Tecos did with 3 de Marzo.

Looking nice. I've always liked the rectangle-stadium design a lot of English clubs have. The seats being close to the field are another big plus. Apparently it's going to be around 30,000 capacity.. would've been cool if it could've reached that minimum world cup stadium capacity though
Also, another cool feature is that the benches will be on the stands surrounded by fans, ala EPL. Hopefully fans don't go full savage and ruin it.
