David and Wendy Dworkin have been officially introduced as the new owners of the Rochester Rhinos.

They plan on hiring a Chief Business Officer and doubling team sales staff.

To me, the shade of green kinda washes out with the old gold. The design is solid, but the chosen colors really detract from it.

I prefer the lower 2 options ... But understand why they are "supplemental". The Green appears darker on this as well, which contrasts with the Gold a bit better than the above image.

“Their strong ties to the local community make them the perfect people to lead the Rhinos forward,” USL CEO Alec Papadakis said in a statement, "and we are excited to see them take the club to new heights in 2016 and beyond.”

Love the new logos, and I really hope Rochester can turn things around. I remember when there was talk of them as an MLS expansion side. Maybe someday they can get back to that level.

You were. I don't know much about the new ownership, but I imagine if you can draw a decent number, and put some $ on the table, MLS will listen. It'd make for a heck of a regional rivalry with MTL/NE/NYFC and Energy Drink FC.

As for that being an over saturation of teams, I don't believe so. MLS seems on track to add Sacramento Republic FC, bringing the total number of California teams to 3. That said, Sacramento is much larger:

    Sacramento
    - 485,199 (city size 2014 est)
    - 2,274,194 (metro size 2015 est)
    - #20 TV market

    Rochester
    - 209,983 (city size 2014 est)
    - 1,081,954 (metro area size 2015 est)
    - #76 TV market

Regardless, hope 2016 is the start of something positive (from a butts in the seats perspective).

The rhinos owners have some cash, idk if its mls cash or if they would need another investor. we'll see how the next 4-5 years go. they have already done a lot and have more things planned for year 2 and 3.

Rochester/Montreal was and is the best rivalry in the east.

That's how I originally knew them. I grew up in NH and remember the Rhinos beating DCU in 1999 for the USOC. If I remember correctly, the game was on TV (I may be mis-remembering).

Rochester Rhinos soccer team has set a Nov. 30 deadline to raise $1.3 million dollars to ensure the team will play in 2018. Team owners David and Wendy Dworkin called a news conference on Wednesday afternoon to seek the help of the community and business leaders to reach this goal.

So what the hell is going on with this town and the Rhinos?

I'm a recent arrival, made it to the home playoff game, only to be stunned the next morning in finding literally zero coverage in the D&C of the match.

Gradually, the D&C has pulled back on just about all Rochester-based sports coverage over the last decade or so. The only stories that were getting hits were Bills or SU focused, so everything else got scaled down with the exception of high school coverage. (It's a Gannett thing, too. They've done the same in other minor league towns.)

That's not even going into the gradual decline of the Rhinos, either. The short, short, short answer is that the original owners sold the area on their own stadium and possibly going to MLS without ever realistically having the money to do it. (Rumors are that had they come up with $1 million or so around the time of beating the Rapids in 1999, the league would've gladly taken them on. No dice.)

So, over the course of six years, they haggled with New York State and the city about the cost and where to put a stadium. The final location is, as you know, less than a mile from Frontier Field, but since it was in the city, the perception of it being an unsafe neighborhood for the suburban clientele hung in the air (despite the city ramping up security and improvements being made to the area) and people stayed away.

Eventually, the owners ran out of money, the bank holding their loans took over, they decided to run the whole thing on a shoestring for almost a decade, the USL pulled the franchise two years ago, ran the team for a few weeks and then sold the franchise to a local couple who've tried, but are at their wits' end financially. So, here we are.

That's not even a quarter of the issues, but it's late and I need to sleep. Hopefully others here can fill in the gaps or correct me if needed.
