The USSF is printing money, they aren't worried about $1M. I bet the new jerseys fly off the shelves this summer/spring before Copa & the WCQ games.
I like the 1950 and 1980's one just fine. But many of us have criticized the new logo for looking like a generic USA Olympic team. Maybe that's just what US Soccer wanted. You know, we're mainstream now. The Olympics are kinda popular. When the Olympics are on, people think "That's the USA." Not "That's the freckly offspring of a peculiar, boutique political organization trying to hold a few million balloons."
I'd love to say all the things I'd do to fix the crest, but it is what it is. I'd rather focus on the real problem: Nike and USSF have yet to put out an inspiring set of kits since the Waldo kits in 2012, ending a string of more pleasing designs. I didn't mind the Wimbledon look and the Bombpop shirts were actually better once I saw them on fans and in stands. But the paint drip and the USWNT neon kits were way off. I wish USSF could slap whoever decided a black kit would be a decent idea for the USMNT. I'd put my hope in it being a "secondary" kit, but the paint drip kits became primary when launched as an away kit. Oh well...
Looks like the wait will continue. I was afraid that was the case, considering how few leaks there have been. Usually, these things start coming out of the woodwork as it gets closer and closer to the launch date. Kinda popular every four years and dripping with scandals on and off the fields. Something that US Soccer would not want to have their business model be.
Just stumbled upon this. I am guessing US Hockey is using this now? THAT is what a classic crest should look like:
I like tradition in soccer. Tradition builds recognizable symbols. I'd have loved if the 50s badge had stayed for good. The new badge is quite stylized, and that is good. On the other hand, it's a bit cookie-cutter. Back in the days of the original Xbox, PES came with a badge editor that allowed you to transform a set of badges, changing colors to fit your team. One of those pre-sets was almost exactly like this badge, to the point that it makes me suspect they used it as the template and just changed the colors. There's a rumor that the current badge is plagiarized from some other: 704423762821832704 is not a valid tweet id But I've seen that same pattern in other badges, which leads me to believe they all were just coyping the original template patch that appeared in PES at some point in the late 90s.
Looks like there's no problem here. Hendricks Avenue changed their logo, which I imagine means that they won't try to sue US Soccer. http://www.hendricksbaseball.org/Default.aspx?tabid=808023
This graphic designer, Matt Willis, put together a much better crest. More thoughtful, more imaginative, more meaningful. It also just looks better. It's also open source, public, and free. We can only wish... Read about his design process if you like logos and graphic design; really interesting. http://mwillis.com/post/127251152329/identity-sketches-for-us-soccer
As a Brewers fan, I disagree with the 70s logo being a beauty. Its very dated looking to me and has '1970s cartoon trend' all over it.
Not a fan. The entire thing is basically constructed out of ovals and circles. Just looks unnatural and forced. The wings are awkward. All of the concepts as far as applications look nice, just not a fan of the design.
Everything is 'dated.' That's my whole point. Some things are in fashion at a particular moment and some things aren't--that's how companies like Nike get us to buy new crap all the time. They sell the idea that something that comes from a moment that isn't *right now* isn't worth having. Then the thing you buy today will be 'dated' later, and need to be replaced. And they can sell you that, too. Tradition--the thing that US Soccer fans say they want--does not work on that kind of logic. You don't think that absurd Celtics logo is 'dated'? Of course it is. Or the Three Lions? FC Koln's billygoat? Same thing. Own your identity is what I say. US Soccer entered its modern era in the 90s. I'm proud of that history. A badge should represent that!
That is a nice logo and better than what they came up with but a little too US Military looking for me.
Actually looks a little better than the sketch did. Although I'm sure that one is 100% authentic, it looks like a low quality fake.
