OK, so even if I thought Riley was the right fit for WNY, why would u bring in a guy who likes his own players in this late in the game?

You are right. This may be a case where Aaran and the Flash so poisoned the environment, that they couldn't get anyone else. Riley will suck as bad in WNY as he did in Portland. And I fully expect more turnover in roster because, like you said, he only wants players he picks. Up to this point, Randall was having such a good off season.

The only good thing I can say is that he does have credibility, even given the Portland experience. I will still root for the players, but will find it hard to stomach Riley on our bench. I hope he surprises me in a good way.

So is Sam Mewis for Farrelly and someone suddenly on the table? :)

Boston did something right for once. Expect that trade in a week or so ...

    • Holden told me not to get too attached to Sam Mewis. I didn't listen. :(
    • Blue Crimson can correct me, but I think having Four allocated players, at least for now, is a new high for the Flash. The salary cap room will probably help Riley bring in a couple players of his choosing.
    • I think with Riley in charge, that our Draft picks are screwed.
    • Allie Long taught his GU10-U13 "supergroup" camp this week (2/17, 2/18); It wouldn't shock me if she ended up in WNY.
Being a Flash supporter has been a gosh darn rollercoaster ride the last couple of years.

Instead of trying to bring all the players he likes to one team, Riley has a better shot just waiting until he has coached every team in the league and gotten to coach his favs that way. But if the there was a Portland shopping list put Emily Menges on it.

You could be right about Long. She may have a hard time getting enough playing time in Portland.

I'd love Allie Long coming to WNY, and have her coach my daughter in the Academy program.

Paul Rile y and Rich Randall were on Kick This Radio 1280 AM Rochester Saturday morning -
    http://www.kickthis.com/media/audio/20160220.mp3

Stadium naming rights “are still up in the air.”

Riley on phone – from about 4:40 to about 10:45

Later, at about 53:50, Soccer Sam teased about the next big player that Randall told him the Flash were pursuing. “If she comes, you ‘re going to have to make a bigger stadium -.”

PR said he has coached 2 players now on the Flash and in comparison he had about 14 on Portland. He said he was looking forward to working with young, hungry players who he hadn’t been with before and that it would energize him. as well. His sound bite word for the team is Hungry.

He mentioned Jess McDonald as having played for him in Portland and is one of the top goal scorers in NWSL.

Lip service was given to Mewis , Hinkle and Erceg, and he gave Dahlkemper a nod as being on the brink of on the National Team.

He did comment on Lynn Williams’ speed and that Ayinde is smart and only 19 years old; he said he spent a couple of years in Nigeria when he was young..

[My comment – this indicates to me that Ayinde is coming back…. I didn’t know she was so young until after the 2015 season was over.]

Alex Sahlen chimes in. To me it reads like more than just the company line.

alexsahlen2Yesterday was such a bittersweet moment. It has been a crazy ride the last 7 years for Aaran and I....I am so proud of what he has accomplished at this club.Up until this point the only time I spent with Paul was on the opposite side of the field playing against him! But after reflecting on yesterday's events I can honestly say after spending a good part of the day with him I can see why he has been so successful. He is someone that players truly want to play for. What an incredible human being and person. I am so excited for this new chapter and couldn't be happier that Aaran was able to pass the torch on to not only a great coach, but top class individual. @wnyflash#bringon2016#NWSL#letsgo

Will be nice to see the improvements when all done. I'll be at the Dash game in August for sure. Then a toss up between the KC or Pride game earlier in the season. I'm getting Sky Blue tickets so no interest in seeing SB or Spirit and can't do weekday/Friday games since its an 8 hour roundtrip for me.

    Interesting to see...

This might just be me looking into things more, but has anyone else noticed the turnover with the Front Office (along with the players)? With Clitnovici leaving after one season, he joins Pedro Losa, Scott Vallow, Rudy Pompurt as coaches the Flash have had since starting NWSL. I also saw something on Twitter - during the botched coach announcement - that the team's communications person took a job with Orlando too. I also worked with a new ticket person last year and I think they had another executive that I remember at games.

Looking at the staff on the team's page, only Randall and Kayla Kent are staff members (outside of the Sahlen family).

Not only players coming and going, but bad sign that even staffers won't stay? We've heard what players thought about playing for Lines, is it the same with his employees...

Hi, Monica - I see you joined today. WELCOME! I hope you will be posting a lot more.

You may know everything below, but I thought I'd share some observations.
    • RE:Clitnovici - WNYChelseafan may have some insight there. Observing from the stands at Sahlen's Stadium, I never sensed that he was an NWSL head- coach- to- be. I do know that Flash Academy midfielder Riley Bowers, an ODP player, committed to Ohio State well before the Clitnovici announcement. I can't say they are related things.

    • RE: Front office - A) I do not know anything, but I have observed as season ticket holder. I don't see a Lines/Sahlen- related exodus. B) Rene Meier, who is now the Flash Academy Administrator, has been there since Day 1. Jackie Maynard, Communications and Marketing Manager, was there a few years (was IMO over-worked) and is the person who left to be with the Orlando Pride- a team with direct MLS affiliation (think advancement opportunity). She was a key Flash staffer attending the 2016 Draft. Vallow left the team for personal reasons - not soccer related. Losa left the Flash to be Manager (head coach) at Arsenal (not a bad move).
They did hire a new Ticket Sales Manager last year who is gone - but I saw nothing improved attendance-wise, so letting him go was probably a performance-related business decision. They also had a guy in 2014 who was Assistant General Manager- New Business Development - again based on performance in attendance and sponsorships, probably a business decision. Having had personal conversations with him, I'm not surprised he isn't in the front office any more.
